Adult Swim‘s mini-series “Uzumaki,” based on the supernatural horror manga by legendary author Junji Ito, was announced way back in 2019, and, as of a year ago, delayed with no Eta. The series’ producers confirmed that the series is still in the works with an update at this year’s Anime Expo, Anime News Network reports.
At the Production I.G. x Wit Studio panel that took place over the weekend, Production I.G. USA President Maki Terashima-Furuta reassured fans that “Uzumaki” is still in the works, and “any news that it’s canceled should only be believed if it comes directly from her mouth.”
While that was the only mention of the adaptation at the panel, manga creator Junji Ito is a confirmed guest at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which brings great potential for a more substantial update soon.

Adult Swim has released a first look at its long-awaited Rick and Morty anime spinoff alongside Telecom Animation Film. The image of the upcoming Japanese collaboration showcases the titular duo with a new anime aesthetic. The image was released as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s massive slate of announcements coming to its newly dubbed streaming platform Max. Although a first look was featured, there is still no news on a release date or a plot synopsis for Rick and Morty: The Anime. The art style of the anime seems to mirror their appearance in a couple of anime shorts based on the titular characters previously released in 2020 and 2021 by animation director Takashi Sano (Tower of God). Koji Iijima acted as producer on the original anime shorts, while Maki Terashima-Furuta was the executive producer. The show was ordered by Adult Swim following the success of the Rick and Morty vs.

Corey Mitchel talks us through the unmade Snake Plissken anime follow-on from Escape From L.A....
The last time Snake Plissken escaped on the big screen was 1996’s Escape From L.A., and while that movie had moments it failed to connect with viewers the way Snake’s original adventure did. Escape From New York remains a cult classic for many reasons: its grim depiction of the future, John Carpenter’s taut storytelling, the moody score and the memorable cast of characters, led by Kurt Russell’s insanely cool outlaw Snake Plissken.
Despite being an amoral anti-hero with few redeemable qualities, Snake holds a special place in the heart of genre fans. Sadly Escape From L.A.’s financial failure and tepid response pretty much doomed any further outings with Russell playing the role, and the actor has since ruled out playing an aged version of Snake. For years...

I don’t often post bits of news as fragmented as this but when it comes to a project I love as much as I do Jin-Roh - for my money one of the greatest animated features ever made and the best thing Mamoru Oshii has ever been involved with - I can’t pass it up. According to AnimeNation Production I.G Vice-President Maki Terashima-Furuta has confirmed that someone has purchased the live action rights to Jin-Roh and a live action adaptation is in the works. No details at all have been given as far as who is behind it or where this is happening, just that it is in the works.
Now, Mamoru Oshii, the creator of the entire Jin-Roh concept - it’s an alternate history in which Germany won WWII, for those unfamiliar - has actually shot two live action films set in this world already...

Nothing is sacred. The moment we heard that Akira was being adapted into a live-action movie, that meant that nearly every other last anime would eventually follow suit. Next up is Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade, the 1998 anime from director Hiroyuki Okiura. This news comes from the Anime News Network (via AICN) where they report that Production I.G Vice President Maki Terashima-Furuta said that "somebody has the live-action rights, and somebody was planning to make a live-action Jin Roh, but at the moment, I have no comment." I think that means some big name is involved with this, but she isn't allowed to say who yet. Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade is an anime set within Mamoru Oshii's Kerberos saga, an alternate history of a totalitarian Japan about what would happen if Japan lost World War II to Japan's friends - the Germans. The fascinating story follows a...

I hope it’s a Japanese studio/record company so every role will be played by some young J-Pop star that will storm the charts with their cheesy title song that will also ruin every trailer.
Or maybe an Us studio that will dumb down the original to get a PG-13 rating and will just let “some Asian looking guy” (probably Keanu Reeves) take the lead. Can’t wait to see it…
