There are season finales, and there are Justified season finales, and “Slaughterhouse” brought not just the season to a new high, but the entire series. There was not a single line or character wasted. We’ve sat and watched supporting characters like Limehouse (Mykelti Williamson), Arlo (Raymond Berry) and Johnny Crowder (David Meunier) sit back and law low but they all became relevant and important to the bigger picture and it all unfolded so creatively. Even Raylan’s hat played a big role. Graham Yost and the writers rewarded patient viewing, and did such a tremendous job of showing us more than telling it.
From Raylan (Timothy) playing Harlan Roulette with Wynn Duffy (Jere Burns) to Limehouse and Boyd meeting at the bridge, Raylan’s suicide mission into Limehouse’s diner, the entire situation with Quarles kept us on the edge, unable to swallow. While I could single out any...

We’re only a few weeks away from the Season 3 premiere of Justified and we’re excited to with all of those cool promos running on FX and Fox. Season 2 took the show to new heights and the show was recognized at this year’s Emmys. Like last season, we’re going to put our wish list of things we’d like to see more of and what would hurt to see more of. Here’s a link to last season’s list, which I believe were answered quite sufficiently except for Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) is still living in that motel. Let’s see how we do for season 3, shall we?
Do… Keep giving significance to Helen’s death.
Rest her soul, Raylan’s Aunt Helen (Linda Gehringer) was a one-of-a-kind. I always thought she was one of the more underrated characters in Justified–one I secretly rooted for despite...

The second season raised the bar with the Bennett clan (Margo Martindale, Jeremy Davies, Brad William Henke, Joseph Lyle Taylor) providing a full bushel of memorable scenes, as did Raylan (Tim Olyphant), Arlo (Raymond Berry), and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins). We’ve gathered the very best moments, be they violent, funny, or just strange, to fondly remember them as we head into the long break before season three begins.
20. Raylan assaults Arlo in jail – 212 Reckoning
Needing to draw Dickie out, Raylan visits his dad in jail and asks him to pay Mags a visit and threaten to pull out of the Black Pike deal unless she gives up her son’s location. Arlo refuses and Raylan proceeds to rough his father up until he agrees.
19. Boyd uses his cell phone in a bit of trickery – 205 Cottonmouth
Dragged back into the life of crime, Boyd was the demolitions man in a...

Justified Reckoning Tim Olyphant Jeremy Davies
Tears and sorrow laid heavy on the hearts of “The Reckoning,” the penultimate episode of Justified’s spectacular second season. There was no finer moment in the second season of Justified than in last night’s episode as Raylan (Tim Olyphant) circled Dickie Bennett (Jeremy Davies), threatening to kill him because that’s what their families do and have done for over 100 years. Once again Raylan stood above Dickie as he did when he took a baseball bat to Dickie’s knee as a teenager, crippling him for life. This time it wasn’t his knee he was aiming at. His gun was pointed at his Dickie’s skull and as he groveled for his life (excellently played by Davies), we got a rare glimpse into the complex character of Raylan, his relationship with Helen (Linda Gehringer), and how she saved his life and...

Dickie. Dickie. Dicke.
What else more is to say but “Dickie” Actually I just like typing out “Dickie.” I think my opportunities to do so are dwindling. Those damn Bennett kids just never listen to their momma. Coover might’ve still been alive if he did. As for Dickie (Jeremy Davies), he didn’t just step over the boundaries set up by Mags (Margo Martindale), he threw up all over them. She set him up good too, don’t retaliate against the Givens and honor the lid on the feud, and stick to the weed business. Nothing more. Nothing less. In two episodes Dicke managed to drag his gimpy leg all over those lines drawn in the sand.
Pride is one of those sins that will get you in trouble real fast. Pissing Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) wasn’t enough, now he’s going to have Arlo (Raymond Berry) and...

I think I’m beginning to see what Justified is all about. It’s not so much a crime procedural, or a neo-western as it’s often called. No, Justified is obsessed with bad parenting. Arlo (Raymond Berry) was a terrible father to Raylan (Tim Olyphant), still is. Bo Crowder wasn’t exactly a model father for Boyd (Walton Goggins) or Bauman either. But is there anyone worse than Mags Bennett (Margo Martindale)?
Children can love unconditionally as long as you love them back and at no point did Mags take time to show her love–if she had any left–for Coover (Brad William Henke). It’s seemingly dried up for her middle son, Dickie (Jeremy Davies) and in her warped sense of reality, thought it would be okay to essentially kidnap Loretta McCready (Kaitlyn Dever) and kill her father at the beginning of this season. Poor Loretta didn...

Trooper Tom Bergen (Peter Murnik) had the right idea by going to the Us Marshall office hoping to borrow Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) in “Cottonmouth.” Raylan replied, “I know my people” and when dealing with anything in Harlan County, extracting information and breeding familiarity are the best weapons that don’t fit inside a holster. They are Raylan’s most important skills even though his dead aim and quick draw get more headlines. Raylan repeatedly uses it to get information from Dewey (Damon Herriman) and victimized him again in the opening scene.
It’s also been a useful ploy in getting a sense for what the Bennett clan is up to each week and Raylan used it to get his father Arlo (Raymond Berry) bothered when he finally decided to turn the money he owed the Marshalls–as expected much of the $20,000 was gone. Raylan put his daddy in his place...
