Cologne, Germany -- German media group Axel Springer has taken a 10% stake in Turkish giant Dogan Yayin Holding, furthering Springer’s strategy of diversifying outside the German market.
Springer will receive a seat on Dogan’s management board. Former Rtl Television head Helmut Thoma is expected to fill the post.
Springer also sold Dogan back a 5.1% stake in its broadcasting division Dogan TV. The swap means Dogan will on balance pay Springer 30 million euros ($38 million). Springer retains a 25% stake in Dogan TV.

COLOGNE, Germany -- Helmut Thoma, the former head of German commercial channel RTL, has been appointed to the supervisory board of IM Internationalmedia, the German parent company of production house Intermedia, IM announced Wednesday. IM said Thoma will eventually take over the post of supervisory board head from Oliver Kaechele. Kaechele will remain on the board as Thoma's deputy. In a further shuffle, IM announced that chief financial officer Andreas Konle will resign at the end of the month, to be replaced by another RTL alumnus, Christian Boehmer. Boehmer is currently head of strategic corporate communications at the Cologne-based channel. The appointment of two German TV executives to its board ties in nicely with IM's new corporate strategy of using lower-risk TV production to balance the bigger gambles made with the group's big-budget feature films like Alexander or the upcoming Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction. The strategy appears to be paying off. Last year, IM booked a slim 2.6 million ($3.1 million) net profit, compared to a net loss of 23 million in 2004.
