Compton-based filmmaker Victor Gabriel is among a select group of filmmakers to punch their ticket for the Oscar race, after scoring wins at the HollyShorts Film Festival.
Gabriel’s 13-minute film Hallelujah won the Grand Prix for Best Short at the festival’s awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon. HollyShorts is an Oscar-qualifying festival, so the win for Hallelujah makes it immediately eligible for Oscar consideration. Producer Duran Jones won the festival’s Best Producer prize.
Two other winners qualified for Oscar consideration: Mulaqat/Sandstrom, directed by Seemab Gul, won Best Live Action short, and Scale, directed by Joseph Pierce, won the award for Best Animation (scroll for full list of winners).

Victor Gabriel’s “Hallelujah,” Seemab Gul’s “Mulaqat/Sandstorm” and Joseph Pierce’s “Scale” have won the top awards at the 2022 HollyShorts Film Festival, which presented its prizes on Saturday afternoon in Hollywood — thus qualifying for this year’s Academy Awards.
“Hallelujah” won the Grand Prix for the festival’s best short, “Mulaqat/Sandstorm” took the honors as the best live-action short and “Scale” won for animation. HollyShorts is an Oscar-qualifying festival for the short-film categories, and the winners of those three awards are automatically entered in the Oscar race.
The award to “Hallelujah” was presented via video by this year’s Oscar winners for Best Live Action Short, “The Long Goodbye” filmmakers Riz Ahmed and Aniel Karia. The Oscar winners for the 2018 live-action short “Skin,” Jamie Ray Newman and Guy Nattiv, presented the awards to “Mulaqat/Sandstorm” and best-director winner Carlos Segundo (“Sideral”), respectively.

“Glow” will not proceed with Season 4 at Netflix as planned, Variety has confirmed.
The Emmy-nominated Netflix comedy series about a troupe of female professional wrestlers had originally been renewed for a fourth and final season, but plans for that season have now been scrapped due to production delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of ‘Glow’ due to Covid, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. “We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of ‘Glow’ with us and the world.”
The show had been renewed for its last season last year. Production had begun on Season 4 earlier this year but was shut down early on due to the pandemic.

Through the first pair of seasons on the Netflix show “Glow,” most of the characters have been in search of something. Even as Season 3 transplants the series’ central group of wrestlers to the bright lights of Las Vegas, it sure seems like that’s one thing that won’t be changing any time soon.
The show’s three main characters are all still holding on to a tenuous grasp on cooperation. Ruth (Alison Brie) and Debbie (Betty Gilpin) are navigating their complicated relationship inside and outside the ring.
Sam (Marc Maron) made the trip out to Vegas with the rest of the Glow team, but it seems like he and Ruth haven’t quite gotten over last season’s brush with something a little more than friendship. Ruth’s boyfriend Russell (Victor Quinaz) is also in tow, giving her plenty to juggle when she’s not headlining nightly Vegas shows...

The 15th Annual Gold Derby TV Award winners were announced on Thursday, September 6, during a live webcast announcement (watch it above). These prizes were decided by hundreds of Gold Derby users who arguably know more about the television landscape than a lot of TV academy members. And they spread the wealth when picking this year’s recipients. “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” was the biggest winner with four awards, followed by “The Handmaid’s Tale” with three, but the top series prizes actually went to “Game of Thrones” and “Atlanta.”
“Versace” swept the longform categories, claiming Best Limited Series, Best Movie/Mini Actor (Darren Criss), Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actress (Judith Light) and Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor (Cody Fern). The last two prizes in that field went to “USS Callister (Black Mirror)” (Best TV Movie) and “The Tale” (Best Movie/Mini Actress for Laura Dern).

Worlds collide! WWE Superstars Lana and Naomi both have a lot in common with the characters on Netflix's hit original series Glow, so it would make sense that they would all get along well if they ever had the chance to meet. Now, ahead of the Glow Season 2 premiere, the cast stopped by during this week's installment of the WWE's SmackDown Live and they actually got to meet Lana and Naomi for the first time — and they taught the the Total Divas stars a thing or two about women's empowerment. Watch the video above to see the full segment! While hanging out backstage, Lana and Naomi were arguing over who had the best dance moves during their dance off. Actor Rebekka Johnson is the glorious easter egg of Glow, Netflix’s 1980s period dramedy based on the short-lived but much-loved TV show from the Reagan-era decade. In a show crafted by women, starring a huge cast primarily of women, Johnson’s role has stolen scenes and endeared to her to fans of the series. Now heading into Season 2, Glow wends a yarn about the plucky but earnest Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), a struggling actor in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glittery big-haired world of women’s wrestling. Ruth makes some bad […]

One of the surprise Netflix hits of last summer took hold of audiences at the end of June and didn’t let up the entire season. A year later, the show is looking to do the same thing again.
Following one of the big questions for Ruth (Alison Brie) and Debbie (Betty Gilpin) at the end of Season 1, it looks like things are still dicey in their friendship. But whatever uncertainty there is in the personal relationships, the in-the-ring action looks just as good as it’s been. And on the outskirts, it looks like Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron) is up to his usual irascible ways as the man in charge.
In addition to Brie, Maron, and Gilpin, “Glow” has one of the best ensembles on TV. Season 2 will see the return of Britney Young as Carmen (who wrestles as “Machu Picchu”), Sydelle Noel, Kate Nash, Marianna Palka, Jackie Tohn,...

Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin were so invested in selling their ability to get physical during their second “Glow” audition together that series creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch were afraid the actresses would injure themselves right out of a job.
“You were lifting her onto your back, and we were like, ‘No, no, no, no, no!’” Flahive said to Brie during a “Glow” Fyc event earlier this year.
“Glow” is the fictionalized retelling of the rise and popularity of the 1980s syndicated women’s professional wrestling promotion known as the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, aka Glow. At the screening and panel in North Hollywood, the cast and crew of the Netflix series gathered to give insight into the show’s casting process. For the amount of kicks, flips, and other attacks required in wrestling, stunt doubles just weren’t going to cut it for the majority of the action seen on screen.

Glow was greenlit for a second season in the summer of 2017. Since then, not much has been said of the grudge match season. That’s until now. Netflix has released a very cool video of the “Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling” living it up in the 80’s which announces the season two premiere date with their best “Flashdance” impressions. Watch the announcement video below.
Glow follows the real-life women’s wrestling company of the same name that was started in the mid 80s. The original series aired for four seasons. The Netflix series was created by the same team that brought you another Netflix hit, Orange is the New Black.
The new season will consist of ten episodes and will stream June 29. The series stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Marc Maron, Sydelle Noel, Britney Young, Britt Baron, Kimmy Gatewood, Kate Nash, Rebekka Johnson, Sunita Mani, Marianna Palka, Gayle Rankin, Kia Stevens,...

When it comes to rewarding the best comedic cast on television, the SAG Awards often simply go with the biggest cast. Recent winners like “Orange is the New Black” (2014-2016), “Glee” (2009), “Desperate Housewives” (2004-2005) and “Ally McBeal” (1998) all prevailed thanks in part to having the most cast members on the voting ballot. Interestingly enough, all four of these were also hour-long dramedies, which suggests SAG voters are more apt to give the prize to large casts when they’re also in large productions.
What does this statistic mean in terms of predicting the 2018 SAG Awards? “Orange is the New Black” once again boasts the biggest comedy cast with a record-setting 45 men and women nominated for the Netflix prison series. That’s up from 37 cast members in 2016, 34 in 2015, and 40 in 2014. Of this year’s other nominated ensembles, Netflix’s “Glow” consists of 18 cast members, followed by HBO’s “Veep” at 15, ABC...

With all the young people who find themselves in front of the camera on MTV, it's no surprise that a handful would end up becoming famous for more than that first 15 minutes. Literally hundreds of kids have dated someone's mom, told a potential date "Next!" or even reached their "boiling point" without even knowing that they were being taped. But who would have ever guessed that back in 2005, Lady Gaga fell victim to MTV, when she still went by her birth name Stefani Germanotta.
So what did the people working on "Boiling Points" think of Lady Gaga? I did a little research and tracked down a few people involved to see what they could tell me about Gaga before she put on her "poker face."
Rebekka Johnson was the actress playing the waitress for this restaurant prank. When I got her on the phone, she told me...
