- Commissioner of the National Hockey League since February 1, 1993.
- Led the NHL during lockouts which canceled parts of three seasons.
- Inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
- First brought to the NHL to the Olympics in 1998.
- Attended PS 174, Russell Sage Junior High School and Forest Hills High School, all located in Forest Hills, New York, USA.
- Attended Cornell University followed by NYU Law School where he graduated in 1977.
- Began working for the NBA in 1981, eventually becoming the NBA's General Counsel. He left in 1993 to become the first NHL Commissioner.
- Inducted into the Hockey Hall Of Fame in 2018.
- Half-brother Jeffrey Pollack was commissioner of the World Series Of Poker as well as president of the XFL football league.
