In the new film A Private War Rosamund Pike plays real life war correspondent Marie Colvin (killed in 2012) who ran straight for trouble to cover it for the Sunday Times. Critics have been enthralled with her work in the film, often mentioning 'Oscar worthiness'. Jeff Schneider recently said "if Nicole Kidman gave that same performance we'd all be talking about it as a potential frontrunner". I haven't yet seen the film but there is definitely truth in thae general implications of that statement that some actors carry with them a head start in terms of perception of awards-worthiness.
In honor of Pike's new eye-patched role, and to distract us from election worries, a tuesday top ten featuring one-eyed favs from both feature films and TV series.

Carmelo Anthony's mesmerizing moves on the court wouldn't be possible without one key factor — and it's not just putting in extra work at practice.
"Without education, I couldn't really do nothing," Anthony told MTV News at a Get Schooled event at Denver's George Washington High School, which was also attended by Ludacris, indie Mc Saigon and 'Melo's wife La La Vazquez. "Without my grades, I couldn't really play ball, I couldn't really hang out. I had to take care of school, and then everything else just fell in place."
The Denver Nuggets forward insisted that anybody who wants to score success should use a strong educational background as their jumping-off point.

A young Antwan Patton planned to enter the psychology field before one pesky development derailed his ambition midway through high school: a chart-topping album.
Patton, better known as Big Boi of Outkast, revealed that he was on his way to becoming known as Dr. Patton before the teen duo's 1994 debut, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, became a speaker-thumping rap classic. However, even on the brink of changing the hip-hop game with his and Andre 3000's inventive swagger, Big Boi didn't ditch his high school degree. When MTV News caught up with the Atl lyricist at the Get Schooled Youth Summit at Chicago's Collins Academy High School, he urged others not to give up on education either.

Having lent his skills to a Philadelphia Get School Youth Summit, Common is familiar with the high energy of the events. But that didn't stop the Chicago Mc from getting amped at Friday's , which he said was a fun and inspirational experience for everyone involved.
"It was an incredible day for me but I think it was just a super incredible day for the kids," Common told MTV News. "I was watching them when we [were] speaking and they were listening ... I was in amazement like 'Man, these kids, they're paying attention.' "
The "Go" lyricist said that having the attention of a bunch of teens is important because it's a chance for him to send a powerful message.

Ciara

R&B siren Ciara is world-famous for her limber, hip-popping moves and sassy vocals, but the Atl songbird stresses that a chart-topping career is not just about turning in a great performance. Making sure you're up on your behind-the-scenes skills is instrumental to pulling off a successful stage career, which is the advice Ciara doles out to aspiring stars.
"For people that wanna be professional creative people, such as an artist, a musician, painter whatever it is, you have to know that it's not that easy. People think that, 'Oh, I can sing and I can do [whatever],' but there's so many doors you have to go through to even get there,...

Common is known as a top-flight Mc who is also working the Hollywood circuit as a budding actor, but he maintains that his success is rooted in his education. The son of an educator, Common knew that, regardless of the path he chose in life, a solid educational background would help him rise to the top.
"My mom was a teacher, so from the beginning, I knew I had to be well-educated and well-versed in different aspects of education," Common told MTV News at a Get Schooled event in Philadelphia, which was also attended by fellow Mc Freeway and songbird Marsha Ambrosius.
The "Go" spitter said hitting the books early on allowed him to cultivate the skills he needed to crank out hip-hop hits.

Flying around the world, hanging with rich and powerful stars and getting paid gobs of cash to crank out hit records probably sounds like a glamorous and cushy gig. The Atl star recently gave MTV News the low-down on how to hit high notes both on and off the charts.
