James Helsing is an alumnus of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in England.
He also won a spot in the intensive summer workshop at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where his classmates were Laura Dern and the late Dana Reeve.
He started making films as a kid, when he drafted his friends into his home movies... 8mm camera in hand.
He wrote, produced and directed the short film Modus Operandi (2014), the origins of the forthcoming feature thriller Modus Operandi.
He made his feature film directing debut with Intuitions (2019) starring Eric Roberts, Linda Gray, René Mena, Vannessa Vasquez and Mike Manning, which enjoyed a healthy run on the festival circuit and picked up several trophies along the way... including three Best Director nominations for Helsing.
In 2022 he directed the independent LGBTQ horror/murder mystery feature Martinez, Margaritas and Murder!, which he also wrote. It stars René Mena, Nicholle Tom, Time Winters, Luis Jose Lopez, Gregory Zarian, Danny J. Gomez and Bonnie Aarons.
In 2024 he directs the small town murder mystery/horror feature Gruesome from his own screenplay. It stars The Nun II (2023) star Bonnie Aarons, Nicholle Tom and René Mena.
