Trust Malayalam cinema to give the audience some heartfelt slice-of-life films from the rural parts of the state and create an engaging narrative. There are plenty of examples from the industry that could fit the bill. Padmini is one such film, and writer Deepu Pradeep and director Senna Hedge have given us a humorous satire on how society generally is and how it treats us.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens In The Film?
The opening credits of Padmini must be one of the most creative ways to introduce Rameshan. As the scene rolls out only on voiceovers, the viewers hear almost every family member, neighbor, and friend of his talk about the wedding day, his bride, her family, and the food served, followed by their trivial questions, which are usually passed off as small talk. The makers aptly represented what exactly happens at Kerala weddings, and viewers get the feeling of attending one vicariously.

MollywoodFrom 'Ente Upasana' to 'Masterpiece', several Malayalam films have romanticised rape, stalking, and inappropriate behaviour at the workplace.Aradhya KurupFullpicture.inThe #MeToo movement that began on social media is raging on, calling out a lot of men in power from various professions and organisations. While art often reflects life and vice versa, it’s important to note how some of these terrifying accounts also spoke about how women are generally perceived in cinema and media. When women tweeted about being assaulted while they were in an inebriated state, a large population of men typically chose to slut-shame them, blame them for wearing the wrong clothes or for being out after dark. This is also how cinema typically draws the lines between the good and the bad woman. A "good" woman in cinema never drinks, smokes, or goes out unescorted after dark and she only wears “decent” clothes. In Pink, a...

The festival was held on the banks of the Bharathapuzha in Tirunavaya. Evidently a historical film set in a different era, sources in the know say that Mammootty would be donning four different get-ups in this film. The film begins with the octogenarian slowly and softly.

“Why should P.K.Nair not be a recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award? After all, whatever we have of Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra, meaning just the first and last reels of the film, are there due to Nair’s unwavering vision and his endless efforts. Again, the only complete Phalke film available to us, namely, Kaliya Mardan (1919), is there because of Nair. If someone like him is not deserving of the Phalke Award, one wonders, who is?”
