- In the 1980s, he had a chance meeting with Lucille Ball on a ski slope in Colorado and was able to strike up an "It's a small world" conversation with her because his father Don DeFore had played Ms. Ball's husband in the film The Facts of Life (1960).
- Was a friend and classmate of John Ritter at the University of Southern California. Ritter was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, which David wanted to join. Incredibly, the other members of the fraternity did not want David to join because he had "long hair" and "played in a band". Ritter generously convinced the other fraternity members to "come off it" and let David join the fraternity.
- His father Don DeFore was the only person ever allowed to have a non-Disneyland owned restaurant in the park, Don DeFore's Silver Banjo Barbecue Restaurant, which operated from 1957-1961. An added perk of this was routinely being one of the first few asked to test new rides at Disneyland.
- As a child, appeared on Art Linkletter's TV show The Linkletter Show (1952).
- Son of Don DeFore and Marion Holmes DeFore.
