The Motion Picture Association is expanding its team in Latin America, with the hiring of new executives in communications and advocacy.
Cesar Castillejos will serve as vice president of communications, public affairs and advocacy for the region and Carlos Monroy will serve as advocacy director for Mexico.
The new hires reflect the growth in the home and mobile and theatrical markets in Latin America.
They will report to Carla Sanchez Armas, managing director of Latin America for the MPA, and are joining the team led by Gail MacKinnon, senior executive vice president, global policy, and government affairs.

Paramount and Sony have become the first member studios to participate in the MPA-eicop Entertainment Law and Policy Fellowship, the program first announced by the Motion Picture Association and the Entertainment Industry College Outreach Program last fall.
Billy Davis (Howard University School of Law ’21) will join Paramount as MPA-eicop’s inaugural Law Fellow, while Rhyan Lewis (Spelman College ’21) will join Sony as the first Policy Fellow. The fellowship is a yearlong, paid program for recent graduates of HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions (HSIs) and other minority-serving institutions (MSIs) to gain exposure and experience working in entertainment law and policy. Charles Rivkin, the chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association, was paid $3.1 million in salary and bonus in 2019, a 37% jump from the prior year.
Rivkin’s salary was revealed in the organization’s annual tax filing. According to the document, Rivkin was paid $2 million in base salary plus $1.1 million in bonus compensation.
Rivkin took the helm of the film industry’s preeminent lobbying organization in September 2017, succeeding former Sen. Chris Dodd. Dodd was paid $3.9 million in his final year with the organization.
The organization recently extended Rivkin’s contract for an additional three years through the end of 2023.
Rivkin received a $250,000 bonus in 2018, which reflected the partial year of work in 2017. The 2019 bonus reflected his first full year on the job, in 2018.
The second-highest paid employee in 2019 was Steven Fabrizio, the general counsel who was fired in August 2019. Fabrizio was arrested after allegedly coercing a woman he met on...

Armas is based in Mexico City and joins the MPA on September 14, reporting to Gail MacKinnon, senior executive vice-president, global policy and government affairs.

The MPAA promoted five executives on Thursday, the latest moves at the global film and TV industry trade group that has been revamping its global operations since May, when the organization upped Gail MacKinnon to Senior Evp Global Policy & Government Affairs.
