Hazbin Hotel’s Musical Storytelling
This….. Is musical storytelling at its finest. Spawning from a 2019 viral YouTube pilot, A24, Amazon Prime, and creator Vivienne Medrano’s Hazbin Hotel has quickly proven itself to be a massive success; boasting the largest global debut for an animated series on Prime Video….. Ever and scoring rave reviews from both critics and audiences, with Decider’s Raven Brunner praising the “queer, raunchy, and fun” animated series for its “exciting character arcs” and “thrilling story.”
Indeed, one doesn’t have to look too hard at Hazbin Hotel’s unique animation and art style, shockingly dense plot and lore, and unabashedly vulgar sense of humor to see why it’s amassed such a large audience so quickly.

Exclusive: Two-time Canadian Olympic medallist Elvis Stojko is to guest star in CBC’s comedy One More Time.
We’ve got a first look at the popular figure skater, who will appear in the seventh episode of the Counterfeit Pictures series. The ep, titled ‘Lazer Blade,’ will air on Tuesday February 20 and also on streamer CBC Gem.
Stojko will play himself opposite star D.J. Demers (The Tonight Show) in the workplace comedy, in which hard-of-hearing second-hand sporting goods store manager Demers leads a team of ‘enthusiastic’ employees.
The figure skater won back-to-back Olympic silver medals at Lillehammer in 1994 and Nagano 1998 along with three world titles and seven national titles. He was inducted to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2011.

The final episodes of Hazbin Hotel are out, and I found them to be quite exciting, to say the very least. The battle between Hell and Heaven in a musical format with quite a bit of swearing was pretty interesting to see, and even though I didn’t enjoy some parts, the philosophy of the show is something that could have worked in a feature film too. It’s the joy and fun plus the total abandon that animation brings that perhaps the live action may not have been able to match up to. In the previous episodes, Charlie’s plans had failed up to the point that Adam was more eager than ever to come down to Hell with his army and take part in the semi-annual extermination. Now only a few days remain, and we will see how the battle between Hell and Heaven goes down.

What do you get when you have a series with a trio featuring a half-oni/half-human, an immortal severed head in a bird cage, and a tough-as-nails maid that can beat up just about anyone? You get a really fun show in Undead Murder Farce , but also a series that has style for days. Even on its own with just the story and mysteries it tells, Undead Murder Farce would still probably be one of my favorite shows of the last year. The stylistic decisions with regard to shot composition, character and environmental design, scene transitions, music, and generally how it looks — amongst other aspects — elevate the show to becoming not only more fun to watch, but something that’s pretty special as well. One of the first things you’ll notice when watching episodes or even just seeing screenshots is that character design was an important aspect of the overall production.

“Love is stronger than death… even than life.”
Twenty-five years before Bram Stoker revolutionized the world of horror with his iconic novel Dracula, another sensual vampire was drifting into the moonlit bedchambers of society’s upper crust. First appearing in a 1871 edition of the literary magazine The Dark Blue, Carmilla, a.k.a. Mircalla, Countess Karnstein, preys upon unsuspecting young women in the crumbling castles of the Austrian countryside. Despite never gaining the ubiquity of Stoker’s dark antagonist, Sheridan Le Fanu’s gothic novella Carmilla is one of the world’s first examples of vampiric literature and helped to establish the archetype of the lesbian vampire. Belgian director Harry Kümel combines this foundational text with the true story of Hungarian serial killer Elizabeth Báthory to create another sinister seductress in his 1971 erotic horror film Daughters of Darkness.

"Before Dracula, before Nosferatu, there was Carmilla!" Following their widely praised reimagining of Le Fanu’s gothic novella, writer Amy Chu and artist Soo Lee return to their "tale of obsession, vampires and Chinese folklore" in Carmilla: The Last Vampire Hunter. The new graphic novel, with lettering by Sal Cipriano, will be released in July 2024 and we have all the details, along with an exclusive preview!
“Amy and Soo deliver a fascinating story about the unyielding supernatural sway of the enigmatic vampire Carmilla, while exploring family heritage, cultural identity and historic and present-day anti-Asian racism,” said editor, Karen Berger. “It’s a thrill to be working with them again on this haunting and captivating sequel!”
“Excited to continue the story of Athena and Carmilla, this time on the West Coast, and to introduce a whole new world of pan-Asian supernatural characters to the readers,” said Chu. “I hope with the Last Vampire,...

Before “The Last of Us” and “Arcane,” it was Netflix’s and Powerhouse Animation’s “Castlevania” (now in its fourth season) that broke the video game adaptation curse with a highly stylized, anime-inspired horror-action show based on the Konami video game series. Now, the spinoff series “Castlevania: Nocturne” moves the action forward 300 years to the time of the French Revolution. With the new time period comes new themes, an expanded worldview, and a big change to the show’s visual style. Unsurprisingly, the biggest change was in the action, all thanks to one invention: Firearms.
“We had guns,” director Sam Deats told IndieWire. “A rifle-axe was my favorite thing, inspired by a trip to a New York museum that had a whole display of different weapons mixed with guns, and I just wanted to incorporate some of that in the show.”

He may have been preceded by characters like Lord Ruthven and Carmilla, but Dracula is still the quintessential vampire, with Bram Stoker’s iconic novel boasting over two hundred cinematic adaptations and inspiring most modern vampire media. That being said, vampire movies have long worked their way out from beneath the shadow of Stoker’s gothic opus, offering up insanely varied stories about our favorite blood-sucking beasts.
And with Chris McKay’s upcoming Renfield proving that there are still fresh spins to be had on the Dracula formula, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of the most under-appreciated vampire movies out there. After all, there’s nothing like discovering a hidden gem within a sea of similar genre flicks.
To be featured on this list, a movie needs to be specifically about vampires (that means no other supernatural creatures like werewolves) and has to approach...

“To die, to truly be dead, that must be glorious,” Bela Lugosi’s eternal vampire once enthused on the silver screen. But true legendary antiheroes never attain the sweet reward of oblivion.
Before Universal Pictures’ classic 1931 film, Dracula was most famous in English speaking countries as the repellent vampire created by author Bram Stoker in a minor publishing novelty from 1897. Gruesome but not significant. Now, of course, he casts the largest shadow in horror, and it grows with every swing of his cape.
Historical Roots of Dracula’s Name
Stoker only took the name of “Dracula” from Vlad Dracul III, the original caped crusader. But the book’s titular inspiration got that name when The Holy Roman Empire named him to the chivalric Order of the Dragon. Dracula means Son of the Dragon. As the protector of Wallachia and Transylvania, he was a far more bloodthirsty ruler than the infamous Queen Mary I,...
