Rocket-powered watercraft will soon race across select screens, when Riptide Gp: Renegade makes its debut on a handful of devices.
The sequel to Riptide GP2, and the spiritual successor to Vector Unit’s Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Renegade marks the first time a series entry has been developed with modern consoles and PCs in mind. As such, fans can expect a more visually impressive racer, featuring improved physics as well as other bells and whistles.
“With Riptide Gp: Renegade, we’ve cranked up the action to make it more of a classic arcade racer,” says CEO and Creative Director Matt Small. “It still has the speed and dynamic water that players love. But the races are bigger and more explosive, with transforming vehicles, interactive obstacles, and secret shortcuts.”
Combining fast speeds with both “crazy mid-air stunts” and police chases, Riptide Gp: Renegade looks to build upon the gameplay of its predecessor in exciting ways.

Today, Vector Unit took to the Internet to announce its newest project: Riptide Gp: Renegade. The new game — which will hit Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows 10 first, with Steam, iOS, Android and Amazon releases planned for a later date — is a follow-up to the indie studio’s previous title, Riptide GP2, and is scheduled for release sometime this spring.
“We’ve been hard at work getting Riptide Gp: Renegade ready for series fans and new players alike,” said Matt Small, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Vector Unit. “This version has been developed from the ground up for next-gen consoles. We kept what worked, but completely retuned the mechanics and the graphics engine, and we can’t wait for players to get their hands on the game.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the series, Riptide Gp: Renegade — which comes from a franchise with mobile roots — is described as being “a next-gen...

Hydro Thunder lives! The first of what may prove to be several game announcements at the inaugural Pax East event, Microsoft has revealed that Hydro Thunder Hurricane will be boosting to Xbox Live Arcade this summer.
Featuring 8 all new “theme park” environments, boats from the original game, 8 player online, and 4 player split screen, Hydro Thunder Hurricane is looking like the sequel so many of us have been waiting years to play. Check out the Hydro Thunder Hurricane trailer:
As you can see from the trailer, Hurricane looks extremely faithful to the original Hydro Thunder (a good thing, in my book). Matt Small, Creative Director at Hydro Thunder Hurricane developer Vector Unit, explains:
“We’re huge fans of the original Hydro Thunder. There’s so much there that already works — the exhilarating boost speeds, the crazy shortcuts, the gigantic jumps and drop-offs. We knew we wanted to keep all of that — even add more of it.
