Jon Brekke's 1st dramatic screenplay, "Tis the Season," secured his beloved Hollywood mentor, ACE editor/producer, Ed Rothkowitz. Executive Producer Bill Finnegan jumped on board, helped secure actress June Lockhart, and it won best film at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival.
His screenplay "Athena and Lucifer in the 21st Century" is a thriller optioned at Tactical Victory Inc., with longtime collaborator and agent, Andrew Magpoc. Another thriller, "Animehem" is in development with Ricardo Galindez at Island Film Group. Ric and Jon have worked together for over 20 years in various capacities. Jon completed several productions with IFG, writing and directing low budget features, including "As Words Breathe," released on Amazon Prime. They partnered with producer Andrew Magpoc to launch Soul Sessions, a TV series on Roku, KITV (ABC,) and YouTube.
Merry Christmas Roberta, a screenplay by Brekke with longtime co-writer Eric Nemoto, was optioned by Ed Rothkowitz, adapted for stage by Michael Wurth, who co-directed the theatrical work with Brekke, winning Po'okela Awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Play.
Brekke walked 2,000 miles a year observing homelessness and drug addiction in downtown Los Angeles, inspiring him to write a movie entitled "In the City of Angels." While writing, Jon also produced and directed a documentary series highlighting people making it out of Skid Row. He finished his 90 page screenplay in 2020 just as Covid shut down Hollywood and the world. Instead of doing nothing, he adapted his screenplay into a novel, and in 2023 published the hard cover version of "In the City of Angels."
As Director and Head of Production for a Time Warner Cable division, from 2002 to 2011, Brekke reported to CEO Nate Smith, built a state of the art green screen studio and post-production facility. He launched several interactive TV channels and produced hundreds of programming hours in entertainment and sports.
As a volunteer, Jon co-created a series of telethons for Red Cross and disaster victims that began with Kokua (help) for Katrina. Kokua for Japan raised over $1.6m for Tsunami victims and was nominated for the VH1 Do Something Awards.
