Obliterated will not be returning for a second season. Despite the series spending six weeks on Netflix's Top 10 list, the streamer has cancelled the action comedy. The show debuted on November 30th and ran for eight episodes.
Starring Nick Zano, Shelley Hennig, Terrence Terrell, Paola Lázaro, Kimi Rutledge, Eugene Kim, C. Thomas Howell, Alyson Gorske, and Carl Lumbly, the series follows an elite special forces team after they defuse a bomb in Las Vegas. They celebrate their accomplishment with lots of alcohol, drugs, and sex. Now, very much impaired, the team must overcome their issues and find the real bomb.

Netflix will not be moving forward with a second season of “Obliterated,” Variety has confirmed.
Hailing from “Cobra Kai” creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald, the comedy followed a special forces team who — after believing they’d thwarted a deadly threat to Las Vegas —celebrates their victory accordingly with a party filled with booze, drugs and sex only to discover that a bomb they deactivated was a fake. The now intoxicated team has to fight through their impairments, overcome their personal issues, find the real bomb and save the world.
Shelley Hennig, Nick Zano, Alyson Gorske, C. Thomas Howell, Eugene Kim, Paola Lázaro and Amalia Yoo star.
Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald executive produced “Obliterated” with Dina Hillier from Counterbalance Entertainment. Sony Pictures Television is the studio.
The news comes as Hurwitz and Heald recently teased that he and the team were back at work on the sixth and final season of “Cobra Kai.

Obliterated has lived up to its name. Netflix has opted not to proceed with a second season of the hourlong action-comedy series.
The cancellation comes as a little bit of a surprise as Obliterated spent a respectable six weeks in the Netflix Top 10 for English-language series following its Nov. 30 release, peaking at No.1 in Week 2. The streamer largely bases its renewal decisions on analyzing viewing vs. cost.

The hits don’t stop for Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the trio behind Cobra Kai and most recently, Netflix’s latest No. 1 hit, Obliterated.
Obliterated is a return to the trio’s roots which began with raunchy comedies like Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle (2004) and its follow-ups Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008), Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam (2008) and A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (2011); American Reunion (2012); Blockers (2018); and Hot Tub Time Machine (2010), among others.
The new 8-episode Netflix series, currently available to stream in its entirety, follows an elite joint-special operations team assembled from various branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and intelligence services to stop a deadly terrorist network from blowing up Las Vegas. Obliterated stars Nick Zano, Shelley Hennig, Terrence Terrell, Paola Lázaro, C. Thomas Howell and Eugene Kim.

Jackpot! Netflix‘s raunchy action-comedy Obliterated dropped last week and it is blowing up. Currently #2 in their Top 10, the wild ride about an elite team of Special Forces operatives (led by Nick Zano‘s McKnight and Shelley Hennig‘s Ava) racing to save Las Vegas from a terrorist’s bomb has had quite the journey to the small screen. “[We] have been talking about for a long time,” says Jon Hurwitz, who joined co-showrunners, writers and fellow Cobra Kai EPs Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald in Sin City last month to discuss the series. “It was originally a feature idea that we were thinking of, but every time we tried to tackle it, it always felt like we didn’t have enough real estate on the page.” Noting that in 120-page feature film script didn’t leave much room “to dig in” to characters like team helicopter pilot Paul (played by...

Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald initially set out to write Obliterated as a feature film. But the creators of Netflix’s latest action comedy changed their minds. They felt their ensemble cast of characters would be best served in a series where they would have time to explore each one in depth, and be able to give each character their own adventure.
The result is the eight-episode series now streaming on Netflix, which follows an elite special forces team — made up of an ensemble cast led by Nick Zano and Shelley Hennig — who wake up with a massive hangover and attempt to break up a deal for a nuclear weapon that could obliterate Las Vegas. Terrence Terrell, Paola Lázaro, Kimi Rutledge, Eugene Kim, C. Thomas Howell, Alyson Gorske and Carl Lumbly round out the cast.

“The work that exhibitors have done in this market is nothing short of exceptional,” Luke Vetere, Managing Director of Majid Al Futtaim Distribution, one of the largest theatrical distributors in the Mena region, told a crowd of industry figures this morning at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival.
Vetere was among a lineup of panelists who headlined the industry-focused talk titled Redefining the Theatrical Experience in the Post-Streaming Era here in Jeddah. The panel also included Giovanni Dolci, Global Chief Sales Officer at IMAX, Eugene Kim, Content Director – Plus M Entertainment (South Korea), and Alex Walton, Co-Head and Partner at WME Independent.
“Saudi Arabia has gone from naught to over a quarter of a billion dollars in just four years. 65 cinemas, 615 screens in four years,” Vetere added.
The veteran distributor continued to say there are “very encouraging” signs of growth in exhibition across the Arab world, including the UAE alongside India.

The state of the theatrical film business amid the rise of streaming was among the topics of discussion at the third Red Sea International Film Festival’s market on Saturday.
Alex Walton, co-head and partner at WME Independent, which focuses on film packaging and sales across multiple platforms, told a panel entitled “Redefining the Theatrical Experience in the Post-Streaming Era,” that his work was akin to “truffle hunting.” He explained: “We are constantly truffle hunting for material. Because everything, pretty much, that we are able to help build is original.”
But given the competition between theatrical, TV and streaming platforms and various industry challenges, “the journey to theatrical is certainly harder for original programming” these days, he argued. “It’s certainly more challenging than ever.” Also, “the competition is greater than ever,” he said, pointing out that Abba now plays live every day in London thanks to a virtual concert experience.

Plot: Obliterated is a high octane action-comedy from the creators of Cobra Kai that tells the story of an elite special forces team who thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas. After their celebratory party, filled with booze, drugs and sex, the team discovers that the bomb they deactivated was a fake. Review: When an elite team of special forces, commandos, and spies team up to save the day, that is usually the end of the story. The credits typically roll on a happy ending once the bad guy is killed and the world is saved. The new series Obliterated looks at what happens when that celebration is premature in a blend of the team action of The A-Team with the drug and alcohol-fueled excess of The Hangover.

Especially in its early installments, 24 used to build in a midseason pause. Jack Bauer would achieve what he thought was his goal — securing the bomb, identifying the conspiratorial kingpin, etc. — and then, after enough time to take a breath but not enough time to use the bathroom, he would discover a Bigger bomb or realize that behind the apparently Big Bad was a Bigger Bad. Gasp!
But what if, instead of merely taking that breath, Jack Bauer had celebrated securing yet another victory for America by doing the keg stand to end all keg stands or dropping a tab of acid — and only then figured out that he still had half a day’s worth of torture, cliffhangers and mountain lions in store?
That — or perhaps just “It’s The Hangover as a ’90s action movie!” — is the hook for Netflix’s new series Obliterated, from the Cobra Kai trio of Jon Hurwitz,...

People say, “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” but what if what’s happening is a five-kiloton nuclear bomb and the team sent to disarm it is hungover to all hell? Welcome to Netflix‘s Obliterated trailer, featuring a misfit band of elite soldiers who, after saving the day, party like Prince told them to party like it’s 1999. What if the team behind Netflix's Cobra Kai – that would be Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg – turned their talents to something along the lines of Team America? Not with puppets, but with people. The result is Obliterated, which is headed to the streaming service in November and has a trailer online.

Netflix is promising a wild night thanks to the first trailer for “Obliterated,” the latest show from “Cobra Kai” creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald. All eight of the hourlong episodes will be able to stream starting November 30.
Described as a high octane Vegas adventure, “Obliterated” follows an elite special forces team that thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas. At least, that’s what they think. As they’re halfway through their celebratory binge, they learn the bomb they disarmed was actually a decoy. Now high and drunk, this team has to find and deactivate the real bomb or else Vegas will blow sky high. Think live-action “Archer” with a Netflix budget.
“Even though I’m half drunk and he is fully drunk and high, we’re the only people on the planet who can keep it from getting blown to hell,” Shelley Hennig as Ava Winters says in the trailer.

Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming action comedy Obliterated, which hails from the creators of megahit Cobra Kai.
The wild and fast-paced trailer is a two-minute tease that asks what it would be like if 24 and The Hangover crossed over. Starring Nick Zano and Shelley Hennig, the eight-episode series follows an elite special forces team after they believe they’ve saved the world from a nuclear bomb threat.
But upon waking up — and with a nasty hangover, no less — the team receives a call that the threat they neutralized was a fake and they have only hours to find and thwart the real one. The problem is, much of the team hasn’t quite sobered up, meaning they must fight through a wall of bad guys, their own personal issues and a few substance impairments to locate the real bomb and save the day.

Netflix revealed Monday that the Nick Zano (Legends of Tomorrow) and Shelley Hennig (Teen Wolf) series would premiere on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

Netflix revealed Monday that the Nick Zano (Legends of Tomorrow) and Shelley Hennig (Teen Wolf) series would premiere on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
All eight episodes will be available on that date, so we're not getting a split-season situation like You and The Witcher.
"Obliterated is a high octane action-comedy that tells the story of an elite special forces team who thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas," Netflix teases.

Some days, you just can’t get rid of a bomb. In Netflix‘s Obliterated, a team of decorated soldiers find themselves on the business end of a nasty hangover while trying to stop an impending disaster. Recovering from a night of drug-fueled debauchery is challenging on any front, but doing it while the survival of millions hangs in the balance? That’s what I call a rude awakening. Today, Netflix deployed a gallery of first-look images and a release date for Obliterated, a new high-octane action-comedy series from directors Jon Hurwitz (Cobra Kai) and Hayden Schlossberg (Cobra Kai).
Launching November 30, Obliterated “tells the story of an elite special forces team who thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas. After their celebratory party, filled with booze, drugs, and sex, the team discovers that the bomb they deactivated was a fake. The now intoxicated team has to fight through their impairments,...

Four films, “Decision to Leave,” “Broker,” “The Hunt” and “No Return” selected for this year’s Cannes Film Festival shed rays of hope for a positive uptake in the Korean film industry, severely damaged due to the Covid pandemic. Juxtaposed against a fruitful run in 2019, the year Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” won the Palme d’Or, the massive slow down of the industry saw box office sales plummeting, sizable shrinking of the business, theater closures and a backlog of unreleased films
At last year’s Busan Film Festival’s Asian Contents & Film Market veteran film director Park Chan Wook said the release date for “Decision to Leave” was uncertain and as no one is rushing, the team is constantly retouching parts of the film. Now with a paradigm shift in consumer habits, what does the road to recovery look like?

I had planned to see the dark foreign film The Five Seasons at the Violet Crown on opening night, but was easily convinced by my friend Anna Hanks to try Sake-Bomb instead. The light cross-cultural road-trip comedy was just what I needed after the intense Upstream Color screening. Sake-Bomb was filmed in both Japan and California, and follows sake factory employee Naoto (Gaku Hamada) as he visits his uncle and cousin Sebastian (Eugene Kim) in L.A. and tries to find the woman who broke his heart (and lives in Petaluma).
Director Junya Sakino introduced the film, and since it was the movie's world premiere, some cast members were in attendance as well. I was in theatre 4 during the screening, and we watched the live feed from theatre 3. When it started, we actually worried we'd be watching the film via the live feed as well, but they then switched it on for our screen.

Another year and another great festival wraps up deep in the heart of Texas. As the curtains draw to a close on the Paramount and the music fades, Friday marked the end of another great festival at South by Southwest. With over a hundred films screened, this year’s festival has introduced a plethora of great films to audiences. The festival has been a chance to showcase big headliners like Evil Dead as well as highlight fantastic indies like Zero Charisma. The greatest thing about these festivals is the air of collaboration between various artists, admirers, and professionals alike. Hearing a conversation between a music badge holder, film badge press, and interactive entrepreneurs sums up South by Southwest succinctly. It really captures the spirit of South by Southwest and reminds us why Austin is a true Mecca for creativity and collaboration. Signing off from Austin, TX, see y’all next year!

Sake-Bomb
Directed by Junya Sakino
Written by Jeff Mizushima (screenplay)
Us/Japan, 2013
Sake-Bomb follows the odd couple pairing of Sebastian (Eugene Kim), an aimless and sardonic Asian-American, and his inexperienced Japanese cousin Naoto (Gaku Hamada) as they search California for the latter’s ex flame. Before Naoto inherits his own sake company, he sets off to America in order to find the girl that got away. Sebastian is a twenty-something, second generation Asian -American with no job and dreams to be the next viral video star, making videos that belligerently debunk Asian stereotypes. Together, they follow the typical road trip movie tropes that take them to unexpected places, interesting people, and a few life lessons along the way.
When it comes to the self discovery road genre of films, Sake-Bomb satisfies with laughs, emotion, and broad ethnic themes but does not do much in the way of revolutionizing the wheel.

There's really nothing as funny as some good ironically racist humor, which is exactly what looks to be on full display in this Twitch exclusive trailer debut for Junya Sakino SXSW Premiering debut feature Sake-Bomb. Billed as a sexed-up road comedy, the film is written by Jeff Mizushima and stars Gaku Hamada, Eugene Kim, Marlane Barnes, and Josh Brodis. Here is the description from the press notes, followed by the trailer: Sebastian is a bitter, self-hating wannabe Internet star from Los Angeles who has recently been dumped by his girlfriend and is looking for someone new. When his cousin Naoto, a quiet sake maker from Japan, shows up to find his own ex-girlfriend, Sebastian reluctantly takes him to northern California to find her. The...

The aliens from Sony's "District 9" scored big during The Hollywood Reporter's 39th annual Key Art Awards.
Honoring the best in movie marketing, Friday's event at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles saw "District 9" take home 11 awards, including the best-in-show prize for its integrating marketing campaigning as well as three other best-in-show laurels for its outdoor advertising (built around its "Bus Stop for Humans Bus Shelter"), TV spots and digital campaign.
The awards ceremony culminated with Sylvester Stallone receiving the Visionary Award, given annually to a filmmaker who inspires movie marketers.
"At the end of the day, there is no question that Sylvester Stallone delivers great product," THR publisher Lori Burgess said before calling Stallone to the candlelit stage at what once was the altar of the former St. Vibiana Roman Catholic cathedral, which has been converted to a party space. "He's put his stamp on film like very few people of his generation.
