- Named football head coach at Notre Dame. (December 2004)
- Graduated from Notre Dame in 1978, but did not play football. Became the first Notre Dame alumnus to serve as head football coach since Hugh Devore in 1963 and the first to serve in that capacity on a permanent basis since Joe Kuharich.
- Has been a part of four Super Bowl championship teams (New York Giants 1990; New England Patriots 2001, 2003 and 2004).
- Served as assistant coach at Boonton (NJ) High School (1979); Morristown (NJ) High School (1980-1984); South Carolina (1985-1988); New York Giants (1990-1992); New England Patriots (1993-1996, 2000-2004) and New York Jets (1997-1999). Served as head coach at Franklin Township (NJ) High School in 1989 and Notre Dame (2005-present).
- Winner of the 2005 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.
- Named Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at the University of Florida. (January 2011)
