Today‘s Matt Lauer this morning interviewed filmmaker John Ziegler, who has spent a year poring through evidence in the Penn State pedophile scandal to make a documentary he hopes will clear the name of the late legendary head coach Joe Paterno. Now, Paterno’s only alleged transgression was not being aggressive when a graduate assistant (who’d later become a coach) brought to his attention an “encounter” in the football showers between former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and an underage boy that sounded like molestation. We’ve written numerous stories on the subject, breaking stories about a feature film in the works that will likely re-team Scarface director Brian De Palma and Al Pacino for Happy Valley. That is the working title of a film based on Paterno, the book written by Joe Posnanski. Paterno was unceremoniously fired after the scandal shocked the nation, and the Ncaa took unprecedented actions against the school,...

Al Pacino will play Joe Paterno in an upcoming biopic of the famed Penn State football coach to be directed by Brian De Palma, Deadline reports. Paterno's career ended in scandal when it was revealed he and others were aware of allegations of molestation against assistant Jerry Sandusky, but ignored them.
Tentatively titled Happy Valley, the movie could be based on the bestselling biography Paterno by Joe Posnanski, which producer Edward R. Pressman optioned. American History X and Blow scribe Dave McKenna is reportedly making a deal to write the script.

"Scarface" director Brian De Palma and actor Al Pacino are re-teaming for the biopic "Happy Valley" about Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno.
The iconic and beloved coach spent his life building a successful and cherished football program, and he was considered the most successful coach in college football history.
His reputation collapsed when it came to light that he and others in the football program were aware that former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was a prolific pedophile.
They did little to stop his actions in fear of bad publicity over the program, allowing Sandusky to continue molesting boys for years. When he was caught, Sandusky was found guilty on 45 counts of sexual abuse.
Paterno was fired, his program crushed, a fabled statue of him was torn down, and he was stripped of his wins going back to the coverup.

What is Casting Couch? Today’s it’s just a little casting news column trying to get by at the hands of a Sundance-bound Kate Erbland. Nathan, we need you! We’ve been due for a truly gritty, really in-depth on fallen from grace Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno for months now, but it turns out, we’re now set to get an even better project than we could possibly have dreamed of, because director Brian De Palma and star Al Pacino have now teamed up to bring the true life story to the screen. Deadline Hollywood reports that the two are set for Happy Valley (apparently a working title, thank goodness), which will come from Joe Posnanski‘s book “Paterno,” with Dave McKenna (American History X, Blow) currently in negotiations to script. Pacino was first attached to the project last year. The project reunites Pacino and De Palma, as...

Though Al Pacino has been attached to play controversial Us college football coach Joe Paterno for a while now, the deals and details of the film to surround him have only just started to come together. Update: As first reported months ago, Al Pacino was trying to put together a movie about the life of Penn State University football coach Joe Paterno. At the time it was just a hypothetical project without a script or a director, but now Deadline tells us it's gotten considerably more real: Brian De Palma will direct the film, temporarily titled Happy Valley. Of course, the Scarface reunion of Pacino and De Palma is already intriguing enough, but Deadline also reports that American History X scribe Dave McKenna is in talks to write the script, based on Joe Posnanski's biography of the late icon. Combine all those ingredients together and this is starting to sound like it could be a damned fine film about a man's fall from grace. Previously: It had to happen at...

Al Pacino has had a thing for playing real life figures lately. He earned critical acclaim for playing Jack Kevorkian in HBO's "You Don't Know Jack," he returned to the network for the upcoming and still untitled Phil Spector movie directed by David Mamet, and now he's taking on another big name, and reuniting with an old friend in the process. Pacino is teaming up with his "Scarface" and "Carlito's Way" director Brian De Palma for "Happy Valley." This time the actor will be taking on the legendary and disgraced football coach Joe Paterno, and the project has got some good weight behind it. Namely, producer Edward R. Pressman ("Wall Street," "Badlands," "American Psycho") who has optioned the bestselling book "Paterno" by Joe Posnanski, with Dave McKenna ("American History X," "Blow") to write the script. In case you somehow have been living under a rock...

Exclusive: The Scarface team of director Brian De Palma and Al Pacino are re-teaming for Happy Valley, the working title of a film that will tell the story of Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno. Paterno’s legend was undone by revelations he and others in the football program were aware that former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was molesting children, and did little to stop it, supposedly fearing bad publicity for the powerhouse gridiron program they presided over. Wall Street producer Edward R. Pressman has optioned the bestselling book Paterno by Joe Posnanski. Dave McKenna (American History X and Blow) is making a deal to write the script. The Edward R. Pressman Film Corporation is backing the project. Pacino became attached to play Paterno when a package including the book was shopped by ICM last fall. Pressman will produce with Pacino’s manager, Rick Nicita, who was part of that original package.
