Guillermo Del Toro is doing a version of the Mary Shelley story due next year. No stranger to remakes, interpretations of nostalgia, and comedy with Clive/Karloff or Lee/Cushing or perhaps even De Niro/Branagh or someone else as a reference point. Hammer Studios created its mythos which became more the story of the Baron than the creature.
Paul Dudbridge’s Frankenstein: Legacy is a pleasant well-crafted look at a pursuit of Victor Frankenstein’s’ diary of experiments in creation. This was a story element in Universal’s Frankenstein Meets The Wolf man (1943), Son Of Frankenstein (1939) and The Ghost Of Frankenstein (1942).
The film opens after Victor Frankenstein passes away on a schooner in the Arctic, his diary falls into the hands of a sailor, who passes the notebook on and on until it reaches the hands of Millicent Browning (Juliet Aubrey) a rebellious scientist and noble wife of the...

There have been a whole host of movies featuring Frankenstein’s monster. The first appeared in 1910 and the most famous and best is still 1931’s Frankenstein. Its sequel in 1935 – Bride of Frankenstein – is another classic but there’s been probably more misses than hits since then. In 2013 Frankenstein’s Army had some cool ideas but didn’t hit the heights it perhaps should have while the following year’s I, Frankenstein was a fun, if throwaway, action horror. Bernard Rose directed 2015’s Frankenstein and I wish more people would check that out because it’s great. While this year brings Lisa Frankenstein and this, co-writer/director Paul Dudbridge’s Frankenstein’s Legacy.

Biopunk is a crowd-funded proof of concept short directed by Liam Garvo and written by Andrew Harmer (The Fitzroy). It's set in a dystopian London in 2054, where the world has been ravaged by a virus that has killed billions and caused part of the remaining population to mutate into something other than human. The film's stars include Game of Thrones' Kristian Nairn, Katie Sheridan, and Benjamin Tuttlebee, but the real stars of the piece seem to be the art department and production crew, who have meticulously created a lived-in future world brimming with bric-à-brac. The full length proof of concept has been released from Dresden Pictures. You can wqatch it below. ...

A Nickelodeon TV series that you probably never heard of is getting made into a movie. Genie in the House: The Movie just got its financing at the San Sebastian Film Festival. "Genie in the House" ran from 2006-09 on Nickelodeon U.K. and is about a widowed dad and his two teen daughters who find a lamp inside the house they just moved into. The lamp contains a genie in training. The dad says "no magic" but, well you've seen "Wizards of Waverly Place" or maybe "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie," of course magic happens with mishaps in every episode. The movie is being funded by German, French and Spanish companies. It's a similar deal to House of Anubis, also a series that started on Nick UK, and is getting made into a movie by international interests.
