Sebastian Marka was born in 1978 in Geneva, Switzerland. He studied cinematography at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, Germany and initially worked mainly as an editor for film and TV.
One of his first directorial works, the short thriller film
Interview (2010) received numerous German and international festival awards. After that Marka directed, among other things, several episodes of the famous German crime series
Tatort (1970). Many of his episodes were praised by the German press and received prizes. So Marka won the prestigious German Grimme Award for the episode
Meta (2018) and an audience award at the Nashville Film Festival, USA for the episode
Es lebe der Tod (2016).
The screenwriter
Erol Yesilkaya, with whom he has been working successfully since 2012, wrote the scripts for seven of the Tatort episodes, Marka directed. With Yesilkaya, he also realized the dystopian science fiction film
Exit (2020), which was broadcast by German national television channel "Das Erste".
In 2021 Marka founded the production company "DOG HAUS" together with Yesilkaya and producer
André Zoch.
