Ace but brutal crime thriller Gangs Of London has just landed on our screens in a hail of blood and bullets. It’s an ultra violent, incredibly complex story of the multiple criminal factions in the capital city as well as an intense family saga which begins with crime lord and head of the Wallace family, Finn (Colm Meaney), being assassinated.
What follows is an intense nine part thriller full of twists, turns, surprises and a massive body count. It’s also very complicated. Here’s our handy guide to what happens in the finale, what it means for a second series and where all the main players are left at the end of Gangs Of London.
Who killed Finn Wallace?
As we saw in the first episode, the actual hit was carried out by Darren (Aled ap Steffan) with Ioan (Darren Evans) driving him. Both are now dead. The Danish Militia ordered the hit,...

The American remake of We Are What We Are (review) hits VOD on December 17, and while the Mexican thriller of the same name is superior, Jim Mickle’s take on ritualistic cannibalism is a damned fine film in its own right and certainly one of the better cannibal-centric movies to come out recently.
Making a list of the “best” cannibal movies out there is a fool’s errand, if only because it invariably leads to someone saying I have no idea what I’m talking about because I left this film or that film off the list, prompting me to question everything I know and love. You proud of yourself now?
Therefore, instead of a “Best Cannibal Films” list, I’m treating you to a list of my favorite cannibal-centric movies. And no, Cannibal Holocaust is not on the list ‘cause that movie is gross and made me leave the room twice while watching it.

Shadow is the English language debut of Italian director (and rock star) Federico Zampaglione and first out of the block from the FrightFest Features label. Jake Muxworthy stars as David, a soldier recently returned from the Iraq war who has decided to take himself on a lone biking holiday after getting a tip from a friend about a cycling route called "The Shadow."
We meet him at a little bar high in the Italian Alps, where an obligatory beautiful woman, Angeline (Karina Testa), sits alone. All well and good so far. Then in walks two gents. And by gents I mean the kind of guys you wouldn't want to meet on a dark night. We learn that they're here to hunt and are duly warned off by the bar keeper. It's a recipe for trouble, they make crude remarks to the lady and our hero steps in.

Last month we reported on the exciting announcement the FrightFest guys were teaming up with Wild Bunch distribution and E1 Entertainment to create FrightFest Features. It’s aim is to deliver top quality horror flicks to fans who might not otherwise get to see them. It’s a very exciting prospect, indeed.
The first picture out of the starting post is Italian director Federico Zampaglione’s Shadow. The UK trailer has landed on our desk along with two stills. We’ve also got an exclusive interview with the director, but we’ll be releasing that closer to the film’s UK premiere date at the end of the month along with our review.

Shadow Movie PosterFormer Rockstar Frederico Zampaglione's Shadow now has a North American trailer for horror fans. This newest clip, which is quite different from the previous seen (here), shows a couple on a mountain bike adventure in the Alps. Enter in some degenerate hunters and Nazi experiments, then there is a great deal of conflict to be had. This is a film that this reviewer has been looking forward to and apparently this film is available now on IFC Film's Midnight feature (Twitch). However, this cannot be confirmed by the enigma that is also know as the IFC Film website. The trailer is below.
A synopsis for Shadow here:
"A soldier returning from a tour of duty in Iraq goes on a mountain bike adventure in the Alps to forget his battle weary past. In the woods he meets a pretty young stranger who tells him about a local myth concerning a nazi experiment camp.

Oh IFC Midnight, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways... Just added to the network's VOD collection is Shadow, an Italian slasher from director Federico Zampaglione. This grimy little slice of what some might label "torture porn" is reminiscent of the exploitation films that came from Italy in the 1970s. Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Synopsis: Shadow tells the strangely ethereal story of David (Jake Muxworthy), a young soldier returning from a tour of duty in Iraq, who decides to go on a mountain biking adventure in Europe to forget his battle-weary past. I know this little short has been in the works (read: delayed) for around 4 years now, and the reason I heard was that it just wasn't very good. Now the full thing has shown up online (via horror-movies) and you can check it out for yourself.
However, it does feature Karina Testa (who played Yasmine in Xavier Gens Frontier(s)) using a very large barreled revolver which she annoyingly drops to cock the hammer every single shot without fail. With hordes of zombies around, can you really spare that amount of time? Not to mention the egregious waste of bullets. Do these people know anything about firearms? Besides the gore, it's really nothing special.
Full short after the break.

Image Ent. has acquired all North American rights to Jinga Films' supernatural horror Finale. Described as an homage to Dario Argento's Suspiria, John Michael Elfers' debut feature stars Carolyn Von Hauck as a grieving mother who discovers that her deceased son had been dabbling in black magic. Image has skedded the release for May. On Monday, Jinga announced it had added Federico Zampaglione's psychological horror Shadow to its Berlin market slate. Produced by Massimo Ferrero, the English-language, Italian horror pic stars Jake Muxworthy (Borderland), Karina Testa (Frontiere), Chris Coppola (Friday 13th) and Nuot Arquint (The Passion of Christ). The pic centers on an American Iraq War vet whose romantic vacation in the Italian Alps turns into a Deliverance-style nightmare after a confrontation with local hunters.

This week sees the return of the Wachowski brothers, Tarsem Singh ("The Cell") and Henry Bean ("The Believer") to the big screen, not to mention new films from documentarians Nick Broomfield ("Tupac and Biggie") and Doug Pray ("Scratch"). On the other hand, after running around Tribeca, we still need to catch up on last week's releases.
"The Babysitters"
The idea of the spunky teenage boy succumbing to the allure of an experienced older woman is the kind of Hollywood golden goose that launches major careers (think Dustin Hoffman). But when the roles are reversed, the result is the directorial debut of David Ross that sees an entrepreneurial high schooler (Katherine Waterston, daughter of Sam) and her friends turn their babysitting ring into a call girl service, realizing there are alternative ways to pay for college besides waiting tables. It stars when one local dad (John Leguizamo) goes...
