Our favourite Aussie hottie here at the Horror Asylum has signed on for her latest genre based credit. The gorgeous Melissa George (below), star of endless horror flicks such as 'The Amityville Horror', 'Turistas' (Aka 'Paradise Lost'), '30 Days of Night' and 'Triangle', has jumped onto ABC's new horror show 'Gothica' and is set to play 'the series' most formidable force'. Seth Gabel! I would have started this article with a long Woo Hoo if it wasn’t somewhat unprofessional. But please allow me to take a step back. Gothica (which by the way has absolutely nothing to do with the Halle Berry movie of the same name) is a pilot in development at ABC, described as a modern-day gothic horror soap surrounding the lives of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and more. Excellent, right?
This is not to be confused with the Showtime straight-to-series (no pilot required) Penny Dreadful, which features the same characters but in a Victorian London setting, that we told you about back in January. More casting news has come our way for ABC's "Gothica" as "Fringe" alum Seth Gabel and one of our absolute favorite actresses, Melissa George, have signed on to the ever expanding cast. Read on for details.
Deadline reports that Gabel will play Roderick Usher, the district attorney and heir to the once-powerful Usher family who is carrying secrets, and George (pictured) will play Fiona Hunter, the series’ most formidable force, and everyone – from Grace Van Helsing (Janet Montgomery) to Dorian Gray (Chris Egan) to Victor Frankenstein (Tom Ellis) – will find their mettle and savvy tested by this deliciously cunning woman. Emma Booth joined the cast yesterday to play Frankenstein's bride, Madeline Usher.
The ABC drama pilot "Gothica," is co-produced by the ABC Studio-based Mark Gordon Co. with "Reaper" creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas serving as executive producers/showrunners, working alongside creator/executive producer Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer's Apprentice), who wrote the pilot.
