After dipping into the world of H.P. Lovecraft in Re-Animator (listen) and checking out an early adaptation of The Portrait of Dorian Gray (listen), somehow we’re already on our third episode of February. And while the holiday doesn’t line up, we couldn’t pass up a chance to revisit Friday the 13th (2009) for its fifteenth anniversary.
In the Marcus Nispel remake, a group of friends travel to the palatial country house of Trent (Travis Van Winkle) near what was once Camp Crystal Lake. As Trent’s girlfriend Jenna (Danielle Panabaker) bonds with Clay (Jared Padalecki) over the disappearance of his sister Whitney (Amanda Righetti), their friends Chewie (Aaron Yoo), Bree (Julianna Guill), Lawrence (Arlen Escarpeta), Nolan (Ryan Hansen) and Chelsea (Willa Ford) are being picked off one by one by Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears).

Last Friday, which happened to be a Friday the 13th, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift shared some pages from the script they wrote for the unmade sequel to the 2009 version of Friday the 13th (watch it Here). In those pages, we got to read the description of a scene where a character would have been killed by iconic masked slasher Jason Voorhees while riding down a zip line. But those weren’t the only pages Shannon and Swift shared from the script last Friday. They also unveiled a couple pages that reveal what happened to Jason’s dad – and you can read them in this embed:
Ok, since it's #FridayThe13th how about one more? Our sequel script had lots of stuff for long time fans, including returning characters! Let's reveal two of them now: https://t.co/WhNTVuo2Nx pic.twitter.com/yUdnv2L6bL

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift were the writers who cracked the Freddy vs. Jason story and pulled that project out of development hell, where it had been trapped for a decade. Six years later, when Warner Bros. teamed up with Paramount and Platinum Dunes for a Friday the 13th reboot, Shannon and Swift were again the writers. (You can hear all about that Friday the 13th in our latest Wtf Happened video.) Since the reboot made over $91 million at the global box office on a budget of $19 million when it was released in February of 2009, it was no surprise when it was announced that it was going to receive a sequel, to be shot in 3-D and released on August 13, 2010. Then the studios couldn’t agree on the money split, so the sequel was shelved… but not before Shannon and Swift had already written the full script. Today, to celebrate Friday the 13th,...

Aaron Yoo has been acting professionally for nearly 20 years, and during that time you’ve probably seen his face in quite a few things. Most people will remember him from his role in the 2007 movie Disturbia, however, he has also had a lot of success on the small screen. Some of his TV credits include The Tomorrow People and StartUp. Although the industry attempted to typecast him early in his career, Aaron has always fought against stereotypes and he has established himself as a versatile talent. 2021 has been another big year for him thanks to two film roles,

It’s no secret that Asians are woefully underrepresented in American Cinema, but that thinking has started to shift in the last few years. This is especially true afer the majority-Asian cast Crazy Rich Asians became the most successful rom-com in decades. According to Vice.com, there are a slew of blockbuster movies coming out soon with Asian lead characters. We’re even about to see our first Asian Marvel Super Hero. In the past, Hollywood has seen backlash for constantly whitewashing films, removing Asian actors from source materials and casting white Americans to take their places. It seems that Hollywood is starting to see the power of the Asian American market. Here are 6 Asian actors who have appeared in gambling and casino movies over the years.

“There’s a quote that, ‘You cannot be what you cannot see,’ and we think there’s a lot of truth in that,” says Peter Ash Lee, the New York-based editor behind the Asian-American arts and culture magazine Burdock. “Growing up, we didn’t see many reflections of ourselves in media, and when we did, they were often portrayals lacking any depth.”
The feelings of being “unseen” and a desire for multi-dimensional Asian-American experiences were what inspired Lee and his sister, Hannah, to create Burdock, which launched in April at New York’s Apex for Youth Gala.
“We’ve often been painted with a monolithic brush, but the Asian community contains so many multitudes and no two stories are identical — there are thousands of unique experiences and stories to tell,” Lee says.

"You want to be king, you have to kill the king." Saban Films has debuted the official trailer for the action comedy titled Killing Gunther, starring the one-and-only badass Arnold Schwarzenegger as Gunther. This looks hilarious and much better than any of the other self-parody work Schwarzenegger has done recently. The plot is about a group of eccentric assassins who are fed up with Gunther, the world's greatest hitman, so they come up with a scheme to kill him. But of course Gunther turns out to always be one step ahead. Along with Schwarzenegger, the film features Cobie Smulders, Hannah Simone, Taran Killam, Allison Tolman, Aaron Yoo, Peter Kelamis, Alex Duncan, Amir Talai, and Bobby Moynihan. Seriously, this looks pretty damn amazing, the kind of action comedy we need more of. I'm so down for this. Sometimes one new technological innovation can change the world, and sometimes you need to play in the underground to get it started. Crackle’s new original series “StartUp” follows a group of Miami underdog techies — intelligent financier Nick Talman (Adam Brody), unorthodox tech whiz Izzy Morales (Otmara Marrero), and Haitian gang leader Ronald Dacey (Edi Gathegi) — who form an unexpected partnership to get a great idea off the ground, even though they’re founded on dirty money. Meanwhile, FBI agent Phil Rask (Martin Freeman) is hot on their trail, and he’s willing to travel deep into the Miami underbelly to take them down. The series also stars Wayne Knight (“Seinfeld) and Aaron Yoo (“Blacklist”),and is produced by Critical Content and Hollywood Gang Productions. Watch an exclusive clip from “StartUp” featuring Izzy explaining her idea of GenCoin, a new currency free of corruption.

Here's the first trailer for StartUp, a new TV series starring Martin Freeman about the rise of a tech company putting forth a new digital currency (with obvious similarities to Bitcoin). It's set in Miami and looks very stylish, but the biggest problem with it is that it's on Crackle, Sony's streaming network. I was about to complain about how I don't want to have to pay to subscribe to yet another service like that, but apparently Crackle is free (I don't currently watch anything on there, and I don't know if I ever have). So I guess the biggest problem is going to be remembering that this show exists in the first place and heading over to Crackle to check it out.

Usually it's a qualitative disconnect, as in “this movie thinks it's exciting but it's actually boring” or “this movie assumes Kevin Hart is funny when, in fact, he's not.” In the case of Money Monster, the divide is also an intellectual versus anti-intellectual one. The fourth film directed by Jodie Foster fancies itself a ripped from the headlines wail from the bottom of the economic ladder. A thriller-cum-exposé into how Wall Street and big media suckered average Americans into following the Pied Pipers of TV's financial punditry class over the cliff into economic ruin. However, the movie we're really getting is...

Wong Fu Productions has secured a distribution partner for its first feature-length film. The YouTube group, founded in 2003 and comprised of Philip Chang, Wesley Chan, and Ted Fu, will release the movie Everything Before Us exclusively via Vimeo On Demand on June 3, 2015.
Originally premiering at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival on April 23, Everything Before Us is a science fiction romantic drama set in a modern day world not terribly unlike our own, except for the fact a person's romantic history is documented like a credit score. The flick focuses on a couple trying to overcome the inherent drawbacks of the system for individuals who haven't had a lot of luck in love.
Everything Before Us stars Aaron Yoo (The Tomorrow People), Ki Hong Lee (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Randall Park (The Interview), Brittany Ishibashi (Political Animals), Victoria Park (Raven’s Touch), and Brandon Soo Hoo (Tropic Thunder).

Welcome, one and all to yet another abject lesson in what should be called Cinematic Séances Are A Bad Idea For Everyone Involved. As if we didn’t already have last year’s Ouija to point this out, along comes the first trailer for horror thriller Demonic to remind the world that nothing good happens when stupid people decide to try to dabble in dark forces. This time around, those trying to figure out what happened when one of these ill-judged ceremonies turns deadly include a psychologist (Maria Bello) and a detective (Frank Grillo). Naturally, they start to dig into the case and the foreboding old house that it all went down in, trying to piece together what really happened. Was this an incursion from the Great Beyond? Or are the participants just run-of-the-mill killers trying to cover their tracks? The trailer leaves little room for doubt on that front.

I wasn't even aware of Demonic, a film produced and co-written by James Wan (Saw, Furious 7), until this morning. Directed by Will Canon (Air Jesus), who also co-wrote the film, the story seems to follow traditional territory as a police officer and psychologist investigate the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon ghosts. And it would appear some surveillance footage captured all the dirty deeds. The movie stars Maria Bello, Frank Grillo, Cody Horn, Dustin Milligan, Scott Mechlowicz and Aaron Yoo and as of now it doesn't have a release date, though it seems a safe bet it will find its way into theaters this October or thereabouts. Watch the trailer below. sb id="1334731" height="360" width="640"...

A couple of key trailers have hit in the past day or so. First up comes the first trailer for the "Flatliners"-esque "The Lazarus Effect". Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, Evan Peters, and Donald Glover star in the film about a research team who accidentally kill a colleague during the experiments in mapping the brain. When they reanimate her, well, what comes back is not what they bargained for.
Next up there's the first trailer for Will Canon's "Demonic," the James Wan-produced horror tale starring Frank Grillo and Maria Bello, as a detective and psychologist respectively, inspecting a brutal massacre inside an abandoned home. Cody Horn, Dustin Milligan, Megan Park, Scott Mechlowicz and Aaron Yoo also star.
Finally there's the trailer for "Good Kill," Andrew Nicole's drama thriller about Las Vegas-based drone pilots starring Ethan Hawke and Bruce Greenwood. Hawke plays a former fighter pilot turned drone pilot...

James Wan has created some of the best horror movies of the last 10 years. The first full trailer for Demonic was released today, and it leans pretty heavy on Wan's name as writer and producer. This is the second film from director Will Canon, who is not mentioned in the trailer. The synopsis is pretty simple: "A police officer and a psychologist investigate the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon ghosts." With a "story by" credit from Wan, odds are it's going to be a well-plotted script. The movie has a bit of a found footage vibe without relying on it to tell the story. My favorite part of the trailer - aside from the floating blood - is the infrared camera.

“There are a lot of theories about how to open these gates between our world and the underworld. The trick is finding them. Everybody join hands.” Ghost hunters want to hear from the dead, but what if a haunted house responded very violently? Previously known as House of Horror, we’ve been tracking the James Wan-produced Demonic since early 2011, and now the movie about ghost-seeking gone wrong has received its first trailer.
From James Wan, Demonic was directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood) and filmed in Baton Rouge. The script was written by Max La Bella and is based on an original idea from Wan:
“The film centers on the aftermath of a horrific massacre: five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home. Fresh on the scene, detective Mark Lewis and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein, question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters,...

Filmgoers can knock all they want, but they’ll have to wait an undetermined length of time before theaters answer the door and let them into two upcoming haunted house movies from The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films. Amityville: The Awakening and James Wan’s Demonic, both initially scheduled to be released this winter, have now been delayed.
According to Box Office Mojo, Weinstein/Dimension have delayed the debuts of Amityville: The Awakening (originally slated for a January 2nd, 2015 release) and James Wan’s Demonic (initially scheduled to hit theaters on December 12th, 2014). If there’s one thing Hollywood execs like more than franchises, it’s cocaine. And if there’s one thing they like more than cocaine, it’s amazing true life stories. The safer the bet these days in tinsel town, the better – with the economy in the toilet, the Pirate Bay still sailing and Netflix into their profit margins, producers are more likely to make films that are either sequels, remakes, or adaptations from existing properties (you’re as likely to find an exec in a Young Adult section of a bookstore as the Olive Garden). Then there are the ripped-from-the-headlines biopics and “non-fiction” stories that audiences will see so they can go “Wow, that really happened?” afterward.
Which is a total fallacy, because it’s rare that what transpires in these films is what really happened. Even a documentary isn’t going to tell the whole truth,...

The CW is starting over on Monday nights. They've cancelled both Star-Crossed and The Tomorrow People after one season apiece.
On The Tomorrow People, a teenager (Robbie Amell) discovers that he has paranormal abilities. He also learns that others like him have gone into hiding because they're being hunted by a paramilitary group of scientists known as Ultra. The rest of the cast includes Luke Mitchell, Peyton List, Aaron Yoo, Mark Pellegrino, and Madeleine Mantock.
The drama debuted back in October and aired on Wednesday nights, paired with the network's popular Arrow series. It performed well in the beginning but the ratings fell over the course of the season, dropping as low as a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.24 million viewers.
