- Attended Permian High School in Odessa, Texas. Permian High is made famous by H.G. Bissinger in the book "Friday Night Lights." Williams makes a cameo in the film adaptation of "Friday Night Lights" as an assistant coach for Midland Lee High School, Permian's arch-rival.
- Loves the movie "The Lion King" so much, he knows it verbatim.
- Chose his college jersey number, 4, because that was how old his niece was when he came to college. The original number he wanted was taken.
- His brother, Lloyd Hill, is part of the Permian Panthers team featured in "Friday Night Lights".
- Can play the saxophone and piano. Was in the marching band and because he was so tall, his uniform was always short.
- Holds records at the University of Texas at Austin for: most receptions in a single game, most career receiving yards, most touchdowns in a season, most touchdowns in a career, most receptions in a season, most receptions in a career, highest average yards per reception, and consecutive games with a reception (which at 47, ties the NCAA record).
- A freakish athlete, Roy earned all-state honors in both football and track as a junior and senior and was a three-time first-team all-district performer in basketball. He single-handedly led Permian to a fourth-place finish at the 2000 Texas 5A state track meet, winning the long jump with a state-record leap of 25-6, placing second in the high jump (6-10) and finishing third in the 100 meters (10.48) to tally all of Permian's 24 points at that meet.
