Review by Scott Clark of Cinehouse
Melanie (Nora Tschirner) is a young woman living out a dull existence in an English seaside town, her life crawls along until she meets Ray (Rob Knighton in his second feature performance), a recently divorced gangster-type back in town for one last job. Without a doubt the most charming and impressive feature to debut at Eiff this year, one of those films that comes along once in a blue moon and manages to hold its own amongst the vast array of features fighting for the spotlight. It sounds like a screwball gangster flick with a hint of Lost in Translation, which it could be billed as, but you’d be missing the point. Even though it flaunts moments of comedy and does...

The British film Everyone’s Going to Die premiered yesterday at SXSW. It is directed by a directing collective called Jones.
Synopsis:
Two lost souls. One last chance.
Melanie’s life in a seaside town is going nowhere until she meets Ray, back in town with a shady job to do. A moment’s escape becomes a chance to save themselves, and each other.
“Everyone’s Going To Die” is a modern British story about coming home, getting by and the redemptive power of feeling you’re not alone. A story where porn hotlines rub shoulders with sexy beavers on rollerskates; where the past is laid to rest, two lives are changed and nobody, finally, is going to die.
The film stars: Nora Tschirner, Rob Knighton, Kellie Shirley, Madeline Duggan and Stirling Gallacher.

It’s tough to believe SXSW is almost upon us, but the festival starts March 8 and the line-up is looking good. The event has a history of premiering some great titles and this year is no different.
Fede Alvarez’s much-anticipated remake of Evil Dead will have its world premiere at the festival. Opening night features the Incredible Burt Wonderstone, starring Steve Carell and Steve Buscemi as Vegas magicians. Buscemi’s blond wig alone is reason enough to see this movie. Another highlight is the panel, Bates Motel: Story to Screen with Carlton Cuse, which will feature a first look at the pilot for Bates Motel.
Still waiting on the Midnighters line-up to see what else is in store genre-wise.
See the full list of events below and check the website for more info.

Ben Mitchell is set to leave 'EastEnders' this summer. Charlie Jones - who has played the partially-deaf schoolboy for the past four years - apparently had to be ''consoled'' after bosses on the BBC One show told him his alter-ego would be written out during one of the summer's biggest storylines, expected to be based around his hatred of his younger sister Louise. It was also revealed that Madeline Duggan, who plays teenager Lauren Branning, will soon be leaving Albert Square too. A BBC spokesman said: ''Charlie and Madeline have been a pleasure to work with and we wish them all the best for ..

Two of EastEnders' youngest stars will be written out of the soap later this year, it has been confirmed. Charlie Jones and Madeline Duggan - who have played Ben Mitchell and Lauren Branning for the last 4 years - will bow out of the Albert Square serial in the coming months as part of the soap's ongoing revamp under new executive producer Bryan Kirkwood. According to the Daily Star Sunday, 13-year-old Jones had to be "consoled" by his chaperone after hearing the news that his 4 years with the soap would be coming to an end. He has yet to film his final scenes, but his exit will allegedly have nothing to do with Barbara Windsor's departure as Peggy Mitchell in the autumn. It has been suggested that his final story will revolve around the climax of his hate campaign against Louise - or tie in with Lucy Benjamin's...

EastEnders' Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) turns to Max Branning (Jake Wood) in a fortnight's time in the hope that he'll help raise the funds to save the Mitchells from financial ruin. Max, however, is bogged down with money troubles of his own - hence the reason why he conned the Mitchells in the first place! Lauren (Madeline Duggan) and Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) hand over their Christmas lists and insist on having a real tree this year, as opposed to their usual artificial one. With Phil in one ear and his family in another, Max resorts to selling his watch online in a bid to raise some spare cash. Later, Phil suggests to Max that they scam Phil out of a shedload of cash and solve both their money woes in one fell swoop. Max insists that he's no crook, but Phil tries to remind him otherwise as he mentions...

EastEnders dropped to a 14-month audience low on BBC One in a clash with Emmerdale on Tuesday. The episode saw Lauren Branning (Madeline Duggan) confront mother Tanya (Jo Joyner) about her relationship with her brother-in-law Jack (Scott Maslen). Just 5m (26.8%) tuned in from 7.30pm - far short of the soap's 8.3m (37.5%) average for the year to date, and the smallest audience since 4m (19.6%) on May 17 last year. An additional 1m (5.9%) watched the BBC Three repeat of the episode at 10pm, however. ITV1 easily dominated the slot, with Emmerdale drawing 5.8m (32.5%) between 7pm and 8pm, while the Channel 4 News was watched by 852,000 (4.8%). Charles (more)...
