Kendis Gibson, a veteran anchor who worked most recently for MSNBC, is jumping to a new role at CBS’ Miami station, Wfor, where he will anchor the morning and noon newscasts.
The move shows ViacomCBS bringing in new local staffers under Wendy McMahon, co-president of the company’s news and stations unit, and Gibson says he welcomed the chance to take on a wider range of reporting than he was able to do at MSNBC, where he was anchoring early mornings on weekends. “I wanted to get away from working in the hyper-partisan 24/7 political news space,” he tells Variety. “This is a good chance to anchor a newscast that covers the full gamut of the news cycle which I love, including world news, entertainment news, human interest stories and stories important to local communities — and in an awesome city with a big commitment to local news from the top down.

Most of the major networks are going all out next Saturday to cover the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. A least four networks are broadcasting live that day from Lower Manhattan as commemorative events are held at Ground Zero, the Flight 93 National Memorial and other sites connected with the tragedy.
At Ground Zero, family members will read the names of loved ones they lost in the World Trade Center attack. There will be six moments of silence, acknowledging when each of the towers was struck, when each fell and the times corresponding to the attack on the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93.
The program will commence at 8:30 a.m. Et, and the first moment of silence will be observed at 8:46 a.m. The commemoration is expected to conclude at about 1 p.m. Then, at sundown, the annual Tribute in Light will illuminate the sky above Ground Zero.

MSNBC is rebranding its daytime MSNBC Live newscasts as MSNBC Reports, part of an effort to distinguish its news programming from analysis shows in the late afternoon and evenings.
The daytime schedule is not changing, but the MSNBC Live banner will be eliminated in favor of featuring the name of each hour’s anchor in the title along with “Reports” to show that the personalities are network journalists. So the daytime programming will start with Stephanie Ruhle Reports at 9 Am Et, followed by Hallie Jackson Reports, then Craig Melvin Reports. Andrea Mitchell’s show at noon will remain Andrea Mitchell Reports, as will Mtp Daily with Chuck Todd.
The afternoon will feature Katy Tur Reports at 2 Pm Et, followed by Ayman Mohyeldin Reports. Weekends will feature Kendis Gibson and Lindsey Reiser Report from 6 to 8 Am, Alex Witt Reports from noon to 3 Pm Et, and Yasmin Vossoughian Reports from 3 to 5 Pm.

ABC News executive Barbara Fedida will be leaving the company after an investigation found that she made “racially insensitive comments” and “managed in a rough manner,” Walt Disney Television Chairman Peter Rice said on Monday.
In a staff memo, reviewed by TheWrap, Rice said that the investigation conducted by outside counsel “substantiated that Ms. Fedida did make some of the unacceptable racially insensitive comments attributed to her” and that she “managed in a rough manner and, on occasion, used crass and inappropriate language.” Rice said the investigation did not, however, find that Fedida was “the subject of dozens of Hr complaints and that ABC News spent millions of dollars in confidential settlements related to Ms. Fedida.”
“Although Ms. Fedida made contributions to the organization over the 20-year span of her career, in light of the overall findings, we have determined that she can no longer serve in a leadership role...

Black reporters at ABC News whose names were attached to a 2016 “manifesto” to top management are now “uncomfortable” around their colleagues — because the letter was never approved by all the names attached or sent, TheWrap has learned. The letter, which is dated Aug. 17, 2016, was published on June 13 as part of an investigative piece by Yashar Ali on HuffPost about conduct by now-suspended ABC News talent executive Barbara Fedida that was deemed racist and insensitive. The letter lists the names of 12 reporters, correspondents and anchors at the bottom, including “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts, “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin, senior justice correspondent Pierre Thomas, and then-abc News correspondent Kendis Gibson, among others, and was addressed to then-Disney/ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood, ABC News president James Goldston and ABC News management. Sunny Hostin is speaking out. During Monday's episode of The View, the co-host addressed allegations that came to light over the weekend, in which a report from The Huffington Post claimed that ABC News executive Barbara Fedida had made offensive comments about her and other on-air talent, including Robin Roberts, Kendis Gibson and Mara Schiavocampo, in the past. "I think I should say something," Hostin began. "It was a tough weekend for me and I was really disappointed and saddened and hurt when I learned about the racist comments that were made allegedly about me, my colleagues and my dear friends." Some of the anchors on ABC News’ most popular programs have in recent days spent significant portions of on-air time covering an unorthodox topic: the inner workings of the company that employs them.
Hosts including “Good Morning America’s” weekend on air staff and “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin took to their shows on Sunday and Monday to discuss allegations raised in a Huffington Post article that claimed a senior ABC News executive, Barbara Fedida, made insensitive, sometimes racially tinged comments about several journalists of color at the Walt Disney-owned unit. ABC News placed the executive, who has overseen talent and career development at the news operation since 2011, on administrative leave following publication of the article, which detailed allegations of remarks made about such anchors as Hostin and Robin Roberts, along with former staffer Kendis Gibson.

Update, video added Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, addressed a report that a top ABC News executive used derogatory and racist comments about her and other on-air figures.
Hoston said on today’s episode that the report – published in HuffPost on Saturday – “tells me that systemic racism touches everything and everyone in our society. Regardless of social stature, no one is immune. It is the type of racism that black people deal with every single day, and it has to stop.”
ABC News put Barbara Fedida, senior vice president of talent, editorial strategy and business affairs for the network, on administrative leave as an investigation is conducted. ABC News president James Goldston told staffers on Monday that an outside law firm is being retained to conduct the probe.
On Saturday, HuffPost published Yashar Ali’s report that detailed allegations, including one instance in which Fedida referred to Hostin as “low rent.
