John Cena and Nicole Byer have been tapped to host TBS’ revival of the outrageous physical competition series Wipeout. Cena and Byer will be joined by Camille Kostek (I Feel Pretty) as the entrenched Host in the Field, covering the contestants’ progress throughout each round.
The re-imagined series will return with new format twists. Each game has been designed into three rounds and now features a three-stage, obstacle course consisting of multiple strategy and decision points designed to further challenge, and wear out, the stamina of the competitors. The big red balls, an iconic staple of the show, are also back.
“I couldn’t be more excited for what’s in store for this radically absurd show that has its own fair share of legendary faceplants.” said Cena. “The power of Wipeout is its ability to gather people of all backgrounds for fast paced,...

ABC has renewed reality series Wipeout for a sixth season when the show will mark its 100th episode. The network didn’t specify whether the obstacle course show will air again in the summer. Jill Wagner will return as co-host after Vanessa Minnillo replaced her in Season 5. Hosting are John Anderson (Espn’s SportsCenter) and John Henson (E!’s Talk Soup), with Wagner co-hosting. The ever popular Big Balls will be back, along with new obstacles and completely redesigned Wipeout Zones. While not as strong in the ratings as it was early in its run, Wipeout is still one of the few broadcast shows that put on some numbers during the summer. ABC boasts that it is the 2011-12 season’s No. 1 show overall for Family Co-Viewing on the major networks (Adults 18-49 watching with Teens and Kids). Wipeout executive producers are creator Matt Kunitz and Scott Larsen. Endemol USA is producing.

The "Wipeout" set looks like the world's largest playground.
Candy-colored ramps, rope swings, slides and bouncy big balls. You know it's a complete mirage. You know the course is treacherous, specifically designed to make runners face-plant, and that most parents wouldn't let their kids anywhere near it. Yet from a distance, your inner adolescent wants to run straight down the launch ramp.
ABC's "Wipeout" is shot on a sprawling ranch in Santa Clarita, Calif. The crew is readying 16 hours for a second season in the summer with a new array of obstacles to trip up contestants.
"We changed 95% of the course, but we kept the Big Balls," said executive producer Matt Kunitz, referring to the show's signature inflated obstacle. "We want it to be like 'The Price Is Right,' where we're constantly changing the course but sometimes bringing back favorite games with new twists."

Wipeout/wipeout-abc3.jpg" />Last week, we saw the two-episode special of ABC’s Wipeout, which we previously reported has become summer’s highest rated new show. Wipeout has attracted quite a large number of viewers aged 18 to 49, which is the target of most advertisers, thus making the show very popular amongst ad makers. The show, which has constantly been compared with Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, boasts of larger-than-life obstacle courses in which 24 new contenders must survive every week to eventually win the title of Wipeout Champion and a grand prize of $50,000.
Last week, ABC treated us to two episodes of fun and games with the hilarious activities that sent contestants falling flat on their faces.
"This is a tough athletic event, so you have the kinds of injuries you'd get in a sporting event, like twisted ankles, bumps and bruises," executive producer Matt Kunitz said. In the first episode, we...
