- Father of Adrian Laing.
- Laing's last words, while dying of a heart attack in 1989, were that he wanted no doctor to be called.
- Author Clancy Sigal, who had visited Laing's commune at Kingsley Hall, published a novel in 1976 called "Zone of the Interior", about a radical Scottish psychiatrist who runs a commune called "the Manor," and who believes madness to be "a kind of supersanity implicitly superior to the alienation that normals called normality".
