It's hard to imagine Thursday nights without Law & Order.
Although the series that kicked off the franchise ceased production in 2010, it came back to life with all new episodes during the spring of 2022, and it's been an NBC staple ever since.
Fortunately, we don't have to worry about it going off the air yet; NBC renewed it for a 23rd season in April 2023. Check out everything we know so far about Law & Order Season 23, and be sure to bookmark this page so that you'll always have the most up-to-date info!
Unlike the other two series in the franchise, Law & Order focuses more on plot than character-driven stories, although that has changed somewhat in recent years.
The series has drifted away from its Dragnet-like focus on the case of the week, most notably on Law & Order Season 22 Episode 22 when McCoy went up against his daughter, who defended...

Bad news, dads of America: the five Dick Wolf shows previously set for NBC’s fall schedule are all being removed due to the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
That means no “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order,” or “Law & Order: Svu.” Wolf’s “Law & Order: Organized Crime” was not originally part of the fall slate, and it still isn’t. In addition, returning comedy “Night Court” is also being held back; new sitcom “Extended Family” will also wait.
It was the writers strike that carved up the schedule in this case, not the SAG-AFTRA strike (yet), a person with knowledge of the changing plans told IndieWire. “Extended Family” is actually fully in the can, a second source told IndieWire — it just needs a half-hour partner (the previous plan at it paired with “Night Court”) — to fill out a programming hour.

The gun control debate took center stage in Law & Order’s Season 22 finale, which aired on Thursday night.
Tensions were high after a U.S. senator was shot and killed at his daughter’s wedding. After reviewing footage from the incident, Shaw and Cosgrove realized their suspect was a waiter whose face was obscured by a KN95 mask. (He might have been a murderer, but at least he was being Covid-conscious.)

It’s a family affair on Law & Order in the Season 22 finale — don’t worry, it’s already been renewed — and TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek! In the episode “Open Wounds,” a senator is gunned down at his daughter’s wedding. Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) pushes for a severe sentence and squares up against a formidable Da — his own daughter, Rebecca (played by Sam’s daughter Elisabeth Waterston). Price (Hugh Dancy) aims to stay neutral but can’t help but empathize with the defendant over a shared trauma. In our clip, Jack finds out Rebecca’s the defense attorney on the case. “I didn’t know you were doing murder cases,” he remarks. “I represent people I think need representing. Sometimes that includes people charged with murder,” she explains. “He’s not the monster you described.” Jack, however, isn’t so sure. “That may be, but the evidence tells a different story,...

No TV show has truly had a series finale as long as the network or streaming service can produce a revival. TV sitcoms like Full House, Saved by the Bell, and Will & Grace returned. Dramas have reunited their casts, or at least passed the torch to the next generation. Here are six of the best TV drama revivals of the last decade.
Raymond Lee and Caitlin Bassett | Ron Batzdorff/NBC ‘Dallas’ revived the TV drama until real-life tragedy occurred
TNT brought back the hit drama Dallas with original cast members Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, and Linda Gray as the original Ewings. Jesse Metcalfe, Josh Henderson, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, and Emma Bell played the new generation battling over the family oil business.
Unfortunately, Hagman died while filming the second season. The show quickly adjusted existing footage to explain J.R. Ewing’s off screen death, but the show could never recover.

In this exclusive “Law & Order” clip from Nov. 10’s “Only the Lovely” episode, A.D.A. Samantha Maroun (Odelya Halevi) stops male colleagues Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) and Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) in their tracks when she takes the side of a reluctant female witness over theirs.
The case involves the murder of a female crisis consultant, which leads to Devon Miller (Mark Feuerstein), a con man who was a companion to several high society women. McCoy wants one of Miller’s other targets, Grace Pollard (Alysia Reiner), to testify, but she refuses as it would ruin her reputation as a lawyer who has advocated for women’s rights.
Nolan impatiently states, “Her ego is getting in the way,” but Maroun emphatically disagrees.
“No. It’s about legacy, preserving all the causes she’s advocated for,” she tells McCoy and Price, who are stunned by her vehemence on the issue.

Exclusive: Rocket Science has boarded worldwide sales on The Yin & Yang of Gerry Lopez, a film lifting the veil on one of surfing’s most enigmatic heroes, which will be introduced to potential buyers at the 2022 Cannes Market.
While most famously known as “Mr. Pipeline” for his mastery of one of the most dangerous waves in surfing, Gerry Lopez wrestled with a profound internal conflict; his fight to become the best surfer in the world with his dedication to yoga and Buddhist teachings. Gerry’s aggressive, unscrupulous surfing was in stark contrast to his calm demeanor in the tube. And this Zelig-like quality made Gerry wholly unique.
Gerry Lopez is as Zen as he is radical, and he transcends categorization. He’s an apex predator in the surf, one of the most influential surfers and surfboard shapers of all time, an entrepreneur, a family man, a movie star and a lifelong yogi.

After 12 years away, the original "Law & Order" series is back with all-new episodes. The series ended abruptly in 2010 after 20 years of telling the stories of the police officers who catch criminals and the attorneys who prosecute them. The flagship series will rejoin its currently-airing spin-offs, "Law & Order: Svu" and "Law & Order: Organized Crime." Some of the original cast members are back, including Anthony Anderson as Detective Kevin Bernard and Sam Waterston as District Attorney Jack McCoy, and they've added some big-name newcomers like "Hannibal" alum Hugh Dancy as Executive Assistant District Attorney Nolan Price. Series creator Dick Wolf returns as executive...

When the news was first announced that the original Law & Order, aka the Mothership, was coming back, fans were super excited. But at the back of everyone's mind was one question: could they pull it off?
The world has changed significantly since Law & Order went off the air in 2010; could a series closer to shows like Dragnet than to its own spin-offs be successful now?
The good news is that Law & Order Season 21 Episode 1 wasted no time bringing up racism, negative attitudes toward cops, and other issues that are often in the news. While it didn't navigate these stories perfectly, it did a good enough job to be compelling television.
Interestingly, the writers chose to lead off with a story that could have fit comfortably on its sister series, Law & Order: Svu.
Not only did the second half of the hour revolve around the prosecutors' quest...

Dun dun. After twelve years of being off the air, “Law & Order” is finally back for Season 21. Originally premiering in 1990, “Law & Order” lasted for 20 seasons and spurred multiple spin-offs. There is surely enough “Law & Order” content in existence to program an entire network, seven nights a week, with reruns. Spinoff “Special Victims Unit” has run continuously since 1999; the flagship series aired from 1990 to 2010. There are obvious market reasons to bring back the original — the perceived likelihood of a known quantity outperforming a replacement-level new series, the decades’ worth of audience familiarity with the format. But artistically, the only justification for reviving “Law & Order” is finding within it something to say about a world that’s come a long way since Sam Waterston’s Jack McCoy was last onscreen.
In its first episode, “Law & Order” 2.0 manages that. The show is the show is the show — fans will be soothed by its dogged commitment to its structure, while detractors will once again note, for instance, the fairly ludicrous departure from real-life courtroom protocol. But “Law & Order’s” new...

Twelve years after “Law & Order” signed off, “the mothership,” which launched several spinoffs including the still-strong “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” is back on NBC on Feb. 24. Sam Waterston, who starred as Jack McCoy from 1994 to 2010, returns to shore up the “law” side, with Anthony Anderson’s Detective Kevin Bernard back on the side of “order.”
The show also adds Hugh Dancy as Ada Nolan Price, Odelya Halevi as Ada Samantha Maroun, Camryn Manheim as Lieutenant Kate Dixon, and Jeffrey Donovan as Detective Frank Cosgrove, Bernard’s brusque and often abrasive partner.
Both Waterston and Anderson, who was a regular for the last two years of the original series, jumped at the chance to return and were well aware that creator Dick Wolf has been trying to get a revival going for years.

The world has changed.
That is the message to take from the recently released trailer for NBC's revival of Law & Order.
A 30-second promo complete with new footage dropped on the official social media channels of the show on Friday, ahead of a TCA panel teeing up the big return.
Sam Waterson, who returns as Jack McCoy, talked about bringing the show back after such a long time off the air.
“Dick [Wolf] always says that action is character, and the actions of McCoy are being defined by [showrunner] Rick [Eid], and it’s different and interesting, and it’s great to find out,” he shared.
“It’s the nature of work. Work is cool.”
Fellow returning star Anthony Anderson said that the show remains easy to tune into as a new viewer because “the magic of the show is that you never really know or get into these characters’ personal lives,...

We already know that Sam Waterston’s Jack McCoy and Anthony Anderson’s Kevin Bernard are set to return for NBC’s upcoming Law & Order revival. But it looks like a third familiar face will also make their way back to the Dick Wolf procedural.
“The hope and expectation is that there will be a wonderful surprise every week,” Waterston told Variety, hinting at the return of another popular character. Although he couldn’t reveal who exactly would be dropping by, he did say that they are “one of my favorite people on Earth” and that “you’ll be glad when you see her.

You don’t need to be a detective to figure out why Dick Wolf, network TV’s most prolific producer, revived Law & Order, the crime drama that’s about to enter Season 21 after a nearly 12-year hiatus. Rolling cameras again on the hit that spawned six spin-offs is “a dream come true” for him. “Dick was talking about bringing [L&o] back since the day it was canceled in 2010—which he believed was a mistake,” says Sam Waterston, who reprises the role he played for 16 seasons, Jack McCoy, continuing as New York district attorney. “He never gave up intending to do the show again.” That reality began to coalesce about a year and a half ago. “Dick had been talking to me on and off about the mothership coming back,” says exec producer and longtime Wolf lieutenant Rick Eid. “Out of the blue, he called and said, ‘We’re doing it.
