Sydney, Aug 10 (Ians) Australia;s premier batter Steve Smith has revealed that England refused to have drinks with the visitors’ on multiple occasions after the final Ashes Test ended, saying that his team-mates got fed up and left The Oval as the hosts were busy in their celebrations.
Reports had suggested that after England won by 49 runs to end the series 2-2, the Australians were shut out of England’s changerooms for a customary post-game drink session, while skipper Ben Stokes insisted via Twitter that the two teams met up in a nightclub later.
“We did knock on the door a couple of times. We were waiting around a while and Stokesy came out at one point and said ‘two minutes’ and about an hour passed. We thought, ‘we can’t keep sitting here. Are we going to have a beer or not’? The guys got a bit fed up...

Perth, Aug 9 (Ians) After being named Australia’s captain for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, pace all-rounder Mitchell Marsh admitted that it was still pretty crazy for him to believe that he’s getting a chance to be the captain of the side.
Marsh has been handed the top job albeit for the three T20Is against South Africa after Aaron Finch retired from international cricket earlier this year. The all-rounder was the hero of the final when Australia won the 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE and recently returned to Test cricket through a century in the third Ashes Test at Headingley.
“It’s pretty crazy how it all works out. Very proud moment. Probably not something I’d ever thought I would do, but really looking forward to the opportunity of going to South Africa.

London, June 1 (Ians) Former captain Aaron Finch feels that the key to handling talismanic batters Virat Kohli and Steve Smith would be to get them out as early as possible in the upcoming World Test Championship final between India and Australia at The Oval from June 7-11.
Kohli came back into his groove in Test cricket with a fine 186 in the fourth match against Australia at Ahmedabad in March. Smith, on the other hand, has an excellent record at The Oval, scoring 391 runs in three matches at an average of 97.75 with two centuries.
“Both (Kohli and Smith are) batting at number four, so the key is to try and get them as early as possible, early wickets to expose them to the brand new ball will be absolutely key. I will always side with Steve Smith, I think his record is outstanding, but it will be a very good contest,...

Melbourne, April 6 (Ians) Spinner Todd Murphy earned his first national contracts, as Cricket Australia announced the extended 24-player national men’s contract list on Thursday.

Dubai, Sep 4 (Ians) Star India batter Virat Kohli on Sunday equalled the record for most fifties in T20Is against Pakistan with a half-century during the Super Four phase of Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Stadium, here.
Kohli dropped anchor for India from No.3, compiling his 32nd T20I fifty (60 off 44) to lead India to 181/7 in 20 overs.
After Rohit Sharma and K.L Rahul put on a blazing fifty-stand for the opening wicket, Kohli walked in and started positively, moving to 15 off 10 balls despite India losing Rahul shortly after Rohit’s wicket.
With Suryakumar Yadav also falling cheaply, Kohli resorted to a more restrained approach, running quickly between the wickets and keeping the scoreboard ticking. He reached his half-century with a six off Mohammad Hasnain and finished on 60 after he was run out by a direct hit from Asif Ali in the final over.
The fifty was Kohli’s fourth against Pakistan in T20Is.

Townsville (Queensland), Sep 4 (Ians) Australia men’s cricket team coach Andrew McDonald has indicated the three-match One-day International series against New Zealand at Cairns, beginning September 6, will be the beginning of the process of streamlining the side for the 50-over World Cup in India next year.
Australia recently won the Odi series against Zimbabwe at Townsville 2-1, but the visitors too had some big takeaways, managing to upset the hosts, with part-time spinner Ryan Burl taking five wickets in the final Odi.
The three-wicket loss for Australia was a wakeup call and McDonald has insisted the Odi series against No.1 ranked New Zealand will kick-start a series of minor tweaks in the side in the run-up to the showpiece global event next year.

Townsville, Sep 3 (Ians) There was something to cheer for Australia amid the gloom of losing the third and final One-day International against Zimbabwe here on Saturday, with pace bowler Mitchell Starc claiming his 200th Odi wicket to break a 23-year-old record, and become the fastest ever to reach the milestone.
Starc, 32, has become the quickest-ever bowler to 200 Odi wickets, eclipsing the 23-year-old record set by Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq.
Playing in his 102nd Odi here, Starc dismissed tail-ender Ryan Burl when the batter spooned a catch to Cameron Green at mid-off. Starc achieved the feat in two fewer matches than the former Pakistani cricketer (104), according to cricket.com.au.
Starc has reached a double-century of wicket in fewer matches than the likes of Brett Lee (112 ODIs), the late Shane Warne (125), Mitchell Johnson (129) and Glenn McGrath (133).
Starc was also the quickest ever to 100 Odi wickets (after 52 matches) in 2016, though Afghanistan spinner...

Townsville, Sep 3 (Ians) Zimbabwe scored a historic three-wicket victory against the Aaron Finch-led Australia, with leg-spinner Ryan Burl grabbing five wickets for just 10 runs as he brought the hosts to their knees in the third and final One-day International here on Saturday.
Though Australia clinched the series 2-1, it was the manner in which the hosts capitulated which stood out, with nine of their batters scoring in single digit. Opener David Warner, with his patient 96-ball 94, helped the hosts to 141 before they were bundled out in 31 overs.
In reply, Zimbabwe notched up the required runs for the loss of seven wickets in 39 overs to record a memorable win.
Australia had a forgettable start with the bat, as they were reduced to 72/5 after only 18 overs. Put in to bat first, Zimbabwe made full use of the conditions on offer here.
Richard Ngarava and Victor Nyauchi sent Finch and Steve Smith packing for 5 and 1 respectively.

New Delhi, Aug 31 (Ians) Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes that hard-hitting revelation Tim David can be a key figure in Australia’s squad and can help them win the upcoming Icc Men’s T20 World Cup, later this year.

Townsville (Queensland), Aug 31 (Ians) Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc grabbed three wickets as the hosts thrashed Zimbabwe by eight wickets in a low-scoring match to win the second One-day International here and take an unassailable lead in the three-match series on Wednesday.
Following figures 3/24, the 32-year-old Starc is just one wicket short of becoming the sixth Australian bowler to reach 200 men’s Odi wickets even as the Kangaroos leap-frogged West Indies on the path to automatic qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India.
Starc led the charge here as Australia bundled out Zimbabwe for just 96 runs in 27.5 overs with the pacer accounting for Innocent Kaia, Wesley Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani in his first four overs and consigning the tourists to 14/3. Townsville (Queensland), Aug 30 (Ians) Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the remaining two One-day International against Zimbabwe here due to a minor ankle soreness with wicketkeeper Josh Inglis replacing him in the squad.
Australia will play the second Cricket World Cup Super League series match against the visitors here on Wednesday, having taken a 1-0 lead following a five-wicket win at the same venue on August 28.
While it might be a setback for the home team for the remaining two ODIs, Australia expect Marsh to be fit for the T20 tour of India next month ahead of the World Cup Down Under in October-November.

Christchurch, Feb 22 (Ians) New Zealand on Monday beat Australia by 53 runs in the 1st T20I at the Hagley Oval to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Devon Conway scored an unbeaten 99 to help New Zealand to 184/5 after which Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult and Tim Southee dismantled the visitors who were all out for 131.

New Delhi, Dec 29 (Ians) India's biggest takeaway from the second Test apart from the series-equalling win was the ability of debutants Shubman Gill (45 and 32 not out) and Mohammed Siraj (2/40 and 3/37) to step in and perform with self-assurance. Although they didn't get the big numbers, the two did enough damage to Australia and helped India win.
Before the start of the second Test, India were facing a conundrum at the top of the order. With Rohit Sharma in quarantine after arriving in Australia late due to his rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, and Prithvi Shaw failing in both innings of the first Test, India had to throw in young Gill at the deep end. And though the opener survived some tense moments, he did not budge from playing his shots.

Melbourne, Dec 28 (Ians) An injury to regular Australia opener David Warner and lack of in-form genuine openers pitch-forked Matthew Wade, a specialist wicket-keeper, into an opener's slot for the ongoing Test series against India -- with mixed results. In three innings against India, Wade has managed a grand total of 111 runs in four innings of the two Tests.
Wade, 33, is surely a temporary arrangement and once Warner gets match fit he would walk into the XI, replacing him.
Australia have been playing Wade as a specialist middle order batsman while Tim Paine, who is now captain as well, keeping wickets.
Wade also opened the innings in the recent T20 series against India, and captained Australia in a game in Aaron Finch's absence.
There are probably not many examples in Test cricket of a country fielding two wicket-keepers -- one behind the wickets and one as a specialist batsman. But...

Sydney, Dec 7 (Ians) Australia head coach Justin Langer has stated that there are some processes to go through before prolific batsman Steve Smith could lead the national side again.
"Of course, we talked about a number of things," Langer told Fox Sports, when asked if Smith, who has led Australia in 51 ODIs, 34 Tests and eight T20Is, was talked about in the same vein.
Smith's 24-month leadership ban, that was imposed by Cricket Australia following the ball-tampering saga, expired in March this year.
"We've got so many options. Steve Smith has done a brilliant job in the past. There's probably a bit of a process we need to go through until he becomes captain again. We'll go through that," said Langer.

Sydney, Dec 6 (Ians) Matthew Wade acknowledged jokingly at the second T20I between India and Australia on Sunday that he does not possess the lightning-fast reflexes of former India captain M.S. Dhoni behind the stumps.
Wade, who stood in for the injured Aaron Finch as Australia's captain during the match, missed a difficult chance to stump India opener Shikhar Dhawan off spinner Mitchell Swepson in the ninth over at the Sydney Cricket Ground. "Not Dhoni. Not quick enough like Dhoni," Wade could be heard telling over the stump-mic to Dhawan after which the pair laughed.
Apart from being widely rated as one of the most succesfull limited overs captains of all-time, Dhoni was also known for his reflexes as a wicketkeeper. The 39-year-old World Cup winner retired from international cricket in August this year.

Sydney, Dec 6 (Ians) India skipper Virat Kohli on Sunday won the toss and elected to bowl against Australia in the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
India have made three changes to the playing XI which last featured in Canberra. Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Manish Pandey have been replaced by Yuzvendra Chahal, Shardul Thakul and Shreyas Iyer.
"We will bowl first. The pitch looks really nice. They (Australia) are missing Aaron Finch today, so we want to restrict them and chase it down. Chahal replaces Jadeja. Thakur replaces Shami and Iyer comes in for Pandey," Kohli said.
Australia have also made a bulk of changes. Regular skipper Aaron Finch, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc miss out and have been replaced by Marcus Stoinis, Daniel Sams and Andrew Tye in the playing XI.

Sydney, Dec 5 (Ians) India's catching in the two white ball series has been far from convincing even though a few of their fielders have taken some good catches.
After they spilled a few simple chances in the Odi series, the Indians let the Australia openers off the hook in the first T20 International on Friday.
Both skipper Aaron Finch and D'Arcy Short were provided opportunities as Hardik Pandya and skipper Virat Kohli dropped catches -- the India skipper spilling a skier that should have been taken.
However, those dropped chances were followed by a couple of brilliant catches -- with Pandya diving to catch one to send back Finch and Sanju Samson swooping on the ball, diving, to send back the dangerous Steve Smith.
The two catches put the brakes on Australia's chase.
Friday's effort continued the trend from ODIs of India taking good catches but also dropping a few simple ones.

Sydney, Dec 5 (Ians) India will have their task cut out in the second T20 International at the Sydney Cricket Ground against Australia as they will miss the services of injured all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who powered them to victory with the bat in the last two white-ball games.
Jadeja played a stellar role in the consolation win in the last Odi and also starred with the bat in the first T20 International at Canberra on Friday. But he has been ruled out of the remaining two games in the shortest format after being hit on the head by a delivery from Mitchell Starc in Friday's first T20 International.
India will, however, still fancy their chances to win the second T20I and seal the series in the shortest format against an Australia side that too has been plagued by injuries. Skipper Aaron Finch suffered a niggle on his hip in Friday's...

Sydney, Dec 5 (Ians) The Australian national selectors have brought in off-spinner Nathan Lyon to their T20 International squad for the last two matches against India as they released pace bowling all-rounder Cameron Green for Australia A's warm-up against India A that begins on Sunday.
Lyon's inclusion has been a surprise as he is not considered a T20 specialist and has played only two international matches in the format, the last of which came in 2018.
The Aussies, who lost the first T20 International to India by 11 runs, featured leg-spinners Adam Zampa and Mitchell Swepson in the first game at Canberra. They are already sweating over the fitness of their limited-overs team skipper Aaron Finch, who suffered a niggle on his hip during the first game. The results of scans for Finch are still awaited.
Lyon's addition to the white-ball squad continues the significant changes the Aussies have made to their playing group over the past week.

Canberra, Dec 4 (Ians) The Indian team remained non-committal on the state of Ravindra Jadeja's injury after the left-handed all-rounder suffered a blow to his head and had to be replaced by leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal during the first T20 International at the Manuka Oval on Friday.
"The physio (team's medical staff) knows his condition better. We don't have any information yet. We saw him (Jadeja) getting hurt. When he returned he said he was feeling dizzy. We had to go for a concussion substitute," said Sanju Samson who scored 23 and took the catch of Steve Smith off the bowling of Chahal.
Asked if Jadeja will be available for the second T20 International at Sydney on Sunday, Samson said, "Not sure about it. We will check on Jaddu bhai (Jadeja), how he is feeling and then decide on it."
Chahal took three for 25 to earn man-of-the-match award.
"This is the mindset of the team.

Canberra, Dec 4 (Ians) India's concussion substitute Yuzvendra Chahal, who came in for Ravindra Jadeja during Australia's innings, picked three for 25 in his four overs to help India beat Australia by 11 runs in the first T20 International at the Manuka Oval on Friday.
This was India's sixth win over Australia in 10 T20Is on Australian soil. The win helped India take 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. India had earlier lost the Odi series 1-2.
Chahal (3/25), who took the field as Jadeja could not play as a bowler in Australia's innings after taking a hit on his head off Mitchell Starc's short ball during his unbeaten knock of 23-ball 44, took the important wickets of skipper Aaron Finch, Steve Smith and Matthew Wade to dent the Aussie chase of 162.
The Australians had got off to a good start but Chahal removed Finch and Smith in his first two overs.

Canberra, Dec 4 (Ians) Australia captain Aaron Finch played down the matter of India bringing in leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as concussion substitute for Ravindra Jadeja in the first T20I after the decision appeared to have irked Australia head coach Justin Langer who was seen discussing the issue with match referee David Boon at the Manuka Oval on Friday.
Chahal took three for 25 to become the first concussion substitute to win man of the match award.
"Their doctor had ruled Jadeja out due to concussion. You can't be challenging a medical expert's opinion," said Finch putting to rest the controversy.
India skipper Virat Kohli said, "There were no plans of having Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal) in the game. Concussion replacements are a strange thing. Today, it worked for us. Yuzi showed character to squeeze the opponents."

Canberra, Dec 4 (Ians) India brought in leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as concussion substitute for Ravindra Jadeja in the first T20I against Australia on Friday, a decision that appeared to irk Australia head coach Justin Langer who was seen discussing the issue with match referee David Boon at the Manuka Oval.
Jadeja was seen limping immediately after being hit on the head by a Mitchell Starc delivery in the 20th over of the Indian innings. The all-rounder had also taken a break after the third ball of the 19th over and his injury, which looked like a hamstring, had to be tended to.
Jadeja made an unbeaten 23-ball 44 with the help of five fours and a six. The injury, however, did not impact his big-hitting as he hit 24 off the next seven balls he faced to take India to 161/7. But the way he walked off the field after the innings did...

New Delhi, Dec 3 (Ians) India begin their T20 International series against Australia on Friday with a match at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Their overall record against Australia in Australia in the T20 Internationals -- five wins in nine matches -- will give them a lot of confidence. Over the years, there have been many standout individual performances.
Here's a look at some of those performances:
Ravindra Jadeja: India had lost the first match of the two-match series but Jadeja produced a brilliant performance in the second. He bowled three overs for 16 runs and took the wicket of David Hussey, who was looking good at the crease. He also helped effect two run outs -- first running to his left at point and throwing the ball to Mahendra Singh Dhoni to run Aaron Finch out and then making a sliding save at backward point and getting up to throw...

New Delhi, Dec 3 (Ians) Australia opener Joe Burns said on Thursday that the experienced Indian bowling attack is going to pose a huge threat to the Australian batting once again in the forthcoming four-match Test series which begins December 17.
The Indian bowlers played a key role in helping India win the 2018-2019 Test series 2-1, the first by India in Australia. They managed to take 70 of the 80 Australian wickets possible in the four-Test series with the pace trio Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami taking bulk of those wickets.
Although Ishant is unlikely to play the first two Tests, Burns remains wary of the India bowlers.

Canberra, Dec 3 (Ians) After registering a morale-boosting win over Australia in the third and final Odi to avoid a series whitewash, the Indian team will take on the hosts in first of the three T20Is to be played at the Manuka Oval on Friday.
India will, however, miss the services of pace bowler Shardul Thakur who was the standout bowler in Wednesday's Odi, picking three wickets including that of Steve Smith, to help his side win by 13 runs.
The Indian team management has made it clear that players from only the T20I squad, originally selected, will be picked for the three-match series which means that apart from Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav -- who contained the Aussies with one for 57 and Shubman Gill, who impressed with a 39-ball 33 as opener, both performances coming on Wednesday -- cannot feature in the T20 team unless there is injury concern to one of the main players.

Canberra, Dec 2 (Ians) India cashed in on David Warner's absence and ensured that the Aussies did not get off to a solid start in chase of a 303-run target.

Cape Town, Dec 2 (Ians) England have displaced Australia from the numero uno spot in Icc T20I rankings following their comprehensive series whitewash over South Africa in the recently-concluded three-match rubber.
England defeated the Proteas by nine wickets in the final T20I at Newlands to complete the series sweep. Dawid Malan (99*) and Jos Buttler (67*) made short work of chasing 192 to give England a 3-0 series win on Tuesday night.
The latest success means that the Eoin Morgan-led outfit have further extended their undefeated run in T20I series, which began in October 2018. England are ranked number one in ODIs and fourth in Tests.
India, on the other hand, are placed at the third spot in T20Is and will look to attain some rating points when they take on Australia in the three-match series beginning Friday. The Virat Kohli-led side are ranked second in ODIs and third in Tests.

Sydney, Nov 30 (Ians) Australia opener David Warner has been ruled out of the remaining white-ball matches against India after injuring his groin during the second Odi of the ongoing three-match series.
D'Arcy Short has been called in as Warner's replacement in the T20I squad for the three-match series which begins Friday. Additionally, right-arm pacer Pat Cummins has been rested from remainder of white-ball matches in a bid to keep him fresh for the Test series.
Warner suffered a groin strain in Australia's 51-run win on Sunday night at the Sydney Cricket Ground and returned home to begin his rehab in the hope to be fit for the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which begins December 17 at the Adelaide Oval.
The left-handed batsman scored half-centuries in both the ODIs and provided good start for Australia with 156 and 142-run opening partnerships with Australian captain Aaron Finch.

Sydney, Nov 29 (Ians) Australia captain Aaron Finch said that he doesn't expect David Warner to play in the third Odi after the opener left the field four overs into India's innings in the second Odi at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. Warner had to helped off the field and Cricket Australia later said that he had been sent for scans for a groin strain.
Finch said that he doesn't have any information on Warner's status at the moment but doesn't expect him to play the third Odi, which is effectively a dead rubber after a 51-run win on Sunday helped them seal an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. "No idea (on Warner's fitness). We've got to reshuffle it around, I don't think he'll be available," said Finch after the match.
Finch commended his team for their batting performance. Talismanic batsman Steve Smith scored another 62-ball century as Australia scored 389/4 batting first.

Sydney, Nov 29 (Ians) India's fielding woes continued in the second One-Day International against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg) on Sunday with Ravindra Jadeja, who is otherwise considered a safe pair of hands in the outfield, dropping Marnus Labuschagne at long-off off the bowling of Hardik Pandya.
The dropped catch came on the back of India spilling a few chances in the first Odi on Friday with both Shikhar Dhawan and Pandya dropping catches in the deep.
Australia dropped a few high catches in the series as well. Asked if there is a reason why the teams are struggling to hold on to catches, wicketkeeper-batsman Kl Rahul said that it could be because of the crowds.
"Sometimes it happens, catches get dropped. I can't say the exact problem. But when I have fielded in Australia, when the ball travels with the crowd in the background, it becomes a bit difficult to spot.

Sydney, Nov 29 (Ians) Steve Smith on Sunday continued his prolific run as he smashed yet another hundred against India to help Australia post a gigantic 390-run target for the Men in Blue in the second Odi at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Electing to bat, Australia once again had a great start as skipper Aaron Finch and David Warner made most of the batting friendly conditions and amassed 142 runs for the opening wicket. Finch was the first wicket to fell in the 23rd over as he went back to the pavilion after contributing with 60 runs, which included six 4s and a six.
However, Warner continued from the other end and looked all set for a well-deserved century before Shreyas Iyer's brilliance in the outfield saw the left-handed batsman getting run-out at his individual score of 83, an innings studded with seven 4s and three 6s.

Sydney, Nov 29 (Ians) Australia captain Aaron Finch on Sunday won the toss and elected to bat in the second Odi of the ongoing three-match series against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg).
Australia have been forced to replace injured all-rounder Marcus Stoinis with Moises Henriques.
"We are going to bat. Stoinis is out, a little bit of niggle. Moises Henriques replaces him. It's the overs he can give us. The wicket can get slower as the game goes on," Finch said.
India, on the other hand, have stuck to the same team that played in the first Odi which Australia won by 66 runs on Friday.
"We were a bit rusty in the first game but there are no excuses. After the 30 over mark, the bodies started to stiffen up. The second half was very encouraging," said India skipper Virat Kohli talking about the first game.
"We can take a lot of positives from that.

Sydney, Nov 28 (Ians) India have just one day to rebound and recover from the psychological blow that Australia inflicted on them by winning the first One-day International after setting their highest-ever total in the 50-over format against India in Friday's game at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The two teams face each other in the second Odi at the same venue on Sunday.
Australia had hammered 374 for six wickets in 50 overs, built on centuries from captain Aaron Finch and Steve Smith, half-century from David Warner and a 19-ball 45 from Glenn Maxwell.
Josh Hazlewood then rubbed salt to India's wounds as he removed three of the top four batsmen inside the first 10 overs with short deliveries as Virat Kohli's team, despite a fightback from Hardik Pandya, fell short by 66 runs.

New Delhi, Nov 28 (Ians) Hosts Australia are the favourites to win the series against India across all formats, former England captain Michael Vaughan has predicted, pointing out that the Aaron Finch's team was outstanding in the first game on Friday.
India lost to Australia by 66 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground after the hosts scored 374 for six in their 50 overs. The two teams face off again on Sunday, at the same venue.
Vaughan expressed his opinion on Twitter and criticised India heavily.
"Early call... I think Australia will beat India this tour in all formats convincingly," he tweeted.
"India's over-rate is appalling... !!! Body language defensive... fielding is my standard (shocking)... Bowling ordinary!!! Aussies on the other hand have been outstanding... Long tour for India me thinks," added Vaughan.
As Australian batsmen prospered, none of the Indian bowlers looked good. Worse, India did not have a back-up option to lend support to their bowlers,...

New Delhi, Nov 27 (Ians) Steve Smith enjoyed batting without the pressure of playing an anchor's role as he smashed a 66-ball 105 against India to help Australia get to 374 runs in 50 overs. Australia won the first Odi by 66 runs to take a 1-0 led in the series.
"There wasn't a whole lot of pressure. The other times I have batted with the team being under pressure, I had to play an almost anchor's role to help us get a total. Today was different from my normal strike rate, the balls were hit differently from the middle of the bat. I felt good out there. Hopefully, I can keep taking that forward and keep contributing to wins like tonight," Smith told reporters after the match.
The Australia batsman said that they didn't discuss any score as a target while batting.
"We actually didn't really talk about scores. We actually talked just about playing the game,...

Sydney, Nov 27 (Ians) Australia defeated India by 66 runs in the first One-day International at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.
Though there was a rearguard action from Hardik Pandya, who got his highest Odi score (90 off 76 balls) and added 128 runs for the fifth wicket with opener Shikhar Dhawan (74 off 86), Australia's total of 374 for six wickets in 50 overs, their highest against India in one-dayers, proved too daunting. India finished at 308 for eight wickets in 50 overs.
India lost their first three wickets inside the first 10 overs to lose momentum. Both Agarwal and fellow opener Shikhar Dhawan had given India a turbo-charged start with a 53-run opening stand in just over five overs. But then Hazlewood struck with three short-pitched deliveries to dent India's march, picking Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer.
