Exclusive: PBS is leaping into Hope In The Water, a three-part docuseries from David E. Kelley.
The series, which was formerly known as Eating Up the Oceans: How Do We Save Our Seas?, will launch on the public broadcaster in summer 2024.
Shailene Woodley, Martha Stewart, José Andrés and Baratunde Thurston are starring in the series, which marks the Big Little Lies creator’s first foray into documentary. Kelley bought a fish farm a few years ago that raises steelhead trout.
The series is produced by Andrew Zimmern’s Intuitive Content, the company behind series such as MSNBC’s What’s Eating America and Magnolia’s Zoe Bakes.
It will explore the creative solutions and breakthrough blue food technologies that could not only feed people but help save threatened seas and fresh waterways. The series highlights the stories of aquafarmers and fishers who are working toward a sustainable future for the planet.

Garret Dillahunt, Tom Felton and Jake Abel are taking to the skies (and the sea) for Baja Studios feature film, Ghosts of the Pacific, which will tell the true story of three World War II Navy flyers who end up adrift on the South Pacific in 1942. Making movies based on true stories from America's past is the specialty of The American Film Company, the establishment producing the film. The thriller is written by Mark David Keegan and American Film Company president Brian Falk, the latter of whom is making his directorial debut with this film, which follows three flyers who were virtual strangers to one another when they were assigned on a scouting mission near the start of 1942. The three of them end up huddled together in a 4x8-foot life raft, set adrift in the ocean after being forced to ditch their plane. It sounds like quite a story...

Killer Film catches up with producer Brian Falk to talk about Robert Redford’s latest, starring James McAvoy and Robin Wright, The Conspirator.
Brad Reiter: The sets look very authentic, were they built on a set or were they from a pre-existing actual location?
Brian Falk: Out of our nine weeks of production in Savannah, Georgia, we spent six of them filming in real locations, both in downtown Savannah and at nearby Fort Pulaski, which doubled as the Arsenal Penitentiary. The only set pieces were the courtroom, the jail cell, and Ford’s Theater. Per the mandate of the American Film Company — to deliver as much accuracy as possible — all of those sets were built based on detailed research into the real locations, and production designer Kalina Ivanov and her crew rendered them beautifully.
Brad Reiter: Can you talk about some of the obstacles you had to overcome while shooting the film?...

Backed by Ad Hominem and Alexander Payne, hot off The Hangover, Ed Helms will play a sad-sack insurance agent who goes to an industry. convention to try to save the jobs of his colleagues. I imagine the comedy will film in a tax incentive friendly city with a convention center for rent.

Robert Redford will take on the assassination of Abraham Lincoln when he directs The Conspirator. The film will explore the role of Mary Surratt in the assassination plot. Surratt ran the Washington D.C. boarding house where the conspiracy to assassinate Lincoln was hatched. She was a sympathizer with the Confederate cause who would be tried, convicted and hanged for her role in the murder of Lincoln. Surratt had the distinction of being the first woman executed by the federal government. She always claimed to be an innocent bystander who simply let the group of conspirators rent a room. The conspirators were of course led by actor turned assassin John Wilkes Booth. The film hasn’t cast the role of Mary Surratt. Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster, Signorney Weaver, and just about any actress over forty is going to be vying for the role. James McAvoy’s name is coming up for a lead but no indication what...

It looks as if Robert Redford might be stepping in to take charge where Steven Spielberg is dragging his feet. Redford won’t be doing a film about the life of Abraham Lincoln, though. Instead, he will be directing ‘The Conspirator,’ a film about Mary Surratt, one of the conspirators behind the Lincoln assassination. The screenplay was written by “The Bronx is Burning” scribe, James Soloman.
Surratt was a boardinghouse owner in DC. She sympathized with the Confederates during the Civil War and supplied John Wilkes Booth and David Herold with weapons after the assassination had been completed. Redford’s film will also deal with a young, Union soldier named Frederick Aiken who believed the woman to be innocent and who was appointed to defend her.
No casting has been completed, though, according to Risky Biz Blog, James McAvoy is near the top of the list, probably for the role of Aiken.

Even at 72 years old (7 years younger than Clint Eastwood), Robert Redford is still going very strong.
