The Blood on My Name Short Film has premiered. Brandon McCormick‘s Blood on My Name (2011) stars Justin Welborn and Sean Bridgers. Blood on My Name‘s plot synopsis: “On the run after a botched robbery, Erwin, who’s experienced a change in heart, tries to take advantage of a deal he’s made for himself and fellow thief Thomas. Instead he calls down the agents of a malevolent supernatural force who will hunt him to the ends of the earth rather than see him escape.” Loved it. I didn’t think I would like the singing but it was spot on and right on the money. It was not heavily used either, just at the end. The singing is integrated into the melancholy situation like in Moulin Rouge. I almost didn’t recognize Sean Bridgers with the beard shaved. He is an alumni of HBO’s fantastic western Deadwood and is right at home.

[1] Here's a really depressing fact for you: Atlanta is the number one city in the U.S. for child sex trafficking, and, according to the nonprofit organization Street Grace [2], the #10 city worldwide. Up to 7,200 men in Georgia buy sex with a minor each month, from girls as young as 10 or 11. As part of a larger campaign to combat the problem, Street Grace and other like-minded organizations have banded together with Whitestone Motion Pictures to create The Candy Shop, a 30-minute allegorical film about trafficking. The short is directed by Brandon McCormick and stars Doug Jones (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy) as the owner of the titular store. Watch it after the jump. As a film, I think this is pretty well done. I particularly like Jones as the creepy candy shop proprietor, who looks like -- and, I guess, is -- a nightmarish version of Willy Wonka. An allegorical short film might...

This week, on a very special episode of Reject Radio, we celebrate the end of an era, talk to a first-time writer/director, discuss the fine art of short film creation with a seasoned hand, and hear from movie icon Wings Hauser. Wings Hauser, people. Max Winkler hit the festivals hard with Ceremony, his coming of age story starring Michael Angarano and Uma Thurman. Now it’s seeing a limited release, and he’s stopped by to discuss the benefits of getting your heart broken and the wrong way to crash a party. We featured the short film The Candy Shop on the site recently, and director Brandon McCormick was nice enough to share his production methods, talk about working with Doug Jones, and tell listeners how they can help fight sex trafficking in their own backyard. As if that weren’t enough, Wings Hauser joins us moments before a special screening of the 80s classic Vice Squad...

Last year we showed you a great looking creepy trailer for a short film starring Doug Jones (Hellboy) called The Candy Shop. The full 30-minute short film can now be seen in it's entirety.
In the film Jones plays a crazy looking Willy Wonka type character that specializes in kidnapping little girls and thrusting them into child sex trafficking. This film was shot extremely well, but it definitely deals with a very serious and scary subject matter. The movie was actually made to help spread awareness that this kind of thing is going on in our society. Here is a note from the films creator Brandon McCormick,

Why Watch? Doug Jones has played some beloved characters from his turn in the Hellboy movies to the freaky monsters of Pan’s Labyrinth. However, this might be his creepiest role ever (and the most you ever get to see his face). This beautifully shot short film tells the story of a candy shop owner (played by Jones) who looks like the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka and Jigsaw had a love child that was born with lupus. He’s ghoulish, and he has a machine that turns little girls into candy. But it’s okay, right? Because there’s a market for it. One young man is lured into working for him and must choose between making the money to keep food on his family’s table and keeping his soul. The whole fantasy is a parable about child sex trafficking. It’s a haunting movie, and it was made to help raise awareness and money to...

Hey gang! Here we have a solid looking trailer for a short film being developed called The Candy Shop. The film deals with a very serious subject matter, and stars Doug Jones (Hellboy) as a crazy looking Willy Wonka type character that specializes in kidnapping little girls and thrusting them into child sex trafficking.
The film does not make light of this subject matter, it was made to help spread awareness that this is going on in our society. Here is a note from the films creator Brandon McCormick,
The Candy Shop is a thirty minute film that Whitestone will release in November. This film is being made for the Doorpost Film Project, and with support from 12Stone® Church and Street Grace.

Doug Jones is no stranger to horror, but he often plays either a heroic or at least neutral character, often under heavy makeup and prosthetics. For the short film "The Candy Shop", he steps out from behind the makeup and into a role of pure evil.
Shot in Atlanta, home city to production company Whitestone Pictures, "The Candy Shop" is a 30-minute fairytale/parable about the child sex trade. According to Whitestone, over 500 children a month are trafficked into Atlanta, making it the top city in this country for the child sex trade.
Director Brandon McCormick spins the tale of a candy shop in a time resembling the 1930's where a candyman (Jones) lures little girls into The Candy Shop...and they don't come out.
The official trailer for the short was released this week, and we have it below. The full film is due to be released in November.
