Berlin (Germany), June 8 (Ians) German national team coach Hansi Flick is currently facing his biggest challenge since taking over as coach of the 2014 world champions in August 2021.
After the disappointing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Flick’s main focus is now on building a competitive team for the UEFA Euro 2024, which will be hosted by Germany.
Together with former Leverkusen director and German striker icon Rudi Voller, Flick had to work hard to regain the trust of the fans after a series of unsuccessful tournaments.
As Flick is currently in the process of selecting a new squad in preparation for the 2024 tournament, the German association is also in negotiations with former Real Madrid and Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira, reports Xinhua.
The 36-year-old Khedira is expected to join the national team staff and take on strategic tasks, alongside former Stuttgart coach Hannes Wolf, who will be responsible for talent development.

Berlin, March 16 (Ians) For a good reason, former German international Matthias Sammer is demanding improvements in German club football. The 55-year-old demanded more effort when it comes to robustness, speed and agility.
“We have been turning our heads to other countries but seem to have forgotten about values that made German football strong,” the 1997 Champions League winner said after only one of four German clubs, 2020 treble winner Bayern, survived the last-16 round of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League campaign.
The former midfielder added that a strong physical game has been a trademark of German football over the decades, reports Xinhua.
While Bayern, on basis of an intensely physical game approach aside from their technical quality, outpaced Paris St Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and Rb Leipzig failed to deliver resilience facing international top sides such as Chelsea, Napoli and Manchester City.
Leipzig (8-1 in aggregate) against City and Frankfurt (5-0) against...

Berlin, Dec 6 (Ians) The timing of the resignation of one of Germany’s highest-ranked football officials might have come as a surprise to many football fans.
However, it was no shock that 54-year-old Oliver Bierhoff took the responsibility for the second group exit at a World Cup within four years and a disappointing Euro 2020.
Critics mounted up on the former striker, who scored the golden goal in the Euro 96 final, but failed to create stability off the pitch following Germany’s 2014 World Cup win.
The departure of the 70-cap former AC Milan forward opens doors for an inevitable re-launch of German football’s struggling development structures.
The coming days might show how far things go as national coach Hansi Flick seems under similar pressure.
Leading positions regarding the national team’s management need to be filled, and the association’s academy requires new input, to say nothing of a new Sporting Director.

Wayne Rooney’s list of potential destinations should he walk out on Manchester United this summer has dwindled down to just Paris St-Germain after Bayern Munich ruled themselves out of the running for his signature, according to the guardian.
Reports in German media had previously suggested the England international was the object of desire for Bayern’s incoming manager Pep Guardiola as he plans his revolution of the German club at the end of the season, but those claims can now be all but dismissed following comments made by the club’s sporting director, Matthias Sammer, who said:
“I don’t know what Rooney would bring to the Bundesliga, I can’t answer that. I can answer that we have great respect for Wayne Rooney but there has been no contact with him. There is no contact and he’s not on the agenda. No, no. Absolutely not.”
