Bobby Farrelly’s sports comedy film “Champions” is among the Ruderman Family Foundation’s Seal of Authentic Representation awardees — an award that recognizes productions that practice inclusion and portray authentic representations of people with disabilities in the entertainment industry.
Applauded for its decision to open auditions to actors with disabilities, “Champions” is among five productions receiving the award in a list of honorees that includes ABC drama series “The Company You Keep,” Momentum Pictures’ comedy-drama film “Wildflower,” Netflix drama miniseries “All the Light We Cannot See” and Netflix fantasy miniseries “The Witcher: Blood Origin.”
For a production to be awarded the seal, it must meet two criteria: feature actors with disabilities with at least five lines of dialogue in a speaking role and be in or on the verge of general release. Michelle Yeoh has made the transition from action hero to Oscar winner, thanks to her acclaimed performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once”.
However, it was back in the 1980s that Yeoh got her start in Hong Kong action movies, with her martial arts skills and gymnastic abilities catapulting her to increasingly larger roles.

This post contains spoilers for Netflix's Witcherverse and Andrzej Sapkowski's "The Witcher" novel series.
Andrzej Sapkowski's novel series "The Witcher" has spawned a string of stellar adaptations. We have three video games that expand greatly on Sapkowski's novel, with "The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt" emerging as unparalleled, along with an entire comic book series based on the games which leaned heavily on wholly original stories within the universe. When Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Declan de Barra took it upon themselves to adapt a television series based on the novels, they took a hybridized approach. Although the meat of the storyline was taken directly from different plotlines in the novel series, fresh threads, and new character facets were introduced to create an interesting world with beasts and monster slayers.

This post contains potential spoilers for "The Witcher" season 3.
Polish fantasy author Andrzej Sapkowski built a sweeping, layered world filled with monsters, witchers, and sorcerers in his acclaimed novel series, "The Witcher." Sapkowski's saga, told both in novel and short story form, shines brightest when exploring complex characters, who inform the principles of the world they inhabit, and vice versa.
Sapkowski's worldbuilding has, to an extent, been captured by Netflix's television adaptation of the novels, which has been renewed for a third and fourth season. Although the exact plot points of season 3 remain under wraps, it will most likely explore Ciri's Elder Blood status in greater detail, along with the political upheaval that grips the Continent. Several new characters will debut in the upcoming season, including Mistle (Christelle Elwin), "a member of The Rats, a gang of misfit teenagers who steal from the rich and give to themselves ... and sometimes the poor.

Minnie Driver may be joining the world of “The Witcher” at a time of fan upset, but she’s not concerned.
Drive will be seen Christmas Day in the four-episode prequel to the Netflix series “The Witcher: Blood Origin” as Seanchaí, a shapeshifting, time-traveling storyteller. The character may also pop up in future seasons of the main “Witcher” universe, with Season 3 starring Henry Cavill for the last time before Liam Hemsworth replaces him. But Driver doesn’t understand all the uproar about the recasting.
“We come from this tradition of ‘Doctor Who’ where the Doctor regenerates,” Driver pointed out to EW in a recent interview. “I think we need to look at it far more like it’s amazing. It’s an amazing person, it’s an amazing character, and we should have different people playing it.”
And though Driver shared that she has not yet connected with Cavill about their “Witcher” connection,...

In the framing device of Netflix’s The Witcher: Blood Origin, Jaskier (Joey Batey) scorns what will turn out to be the plot of The Witcher: Blood Origin. “Let me guess: A bunch of warriors join forces to fight against all odds?” he scoffs. “It’s been done to death.”
Of course, Jaskier quickly changes his mind once Seanchaí (Minnie Driver), the mysterious elf regaling him with this story, clarifies that this version of it leads up to the Conjunction of the Spheres (i.e., the metaphysical event that explains why the Witcher universe is the way it is). But I think he had it right the first time. This premise has been done to death. And while there’s still some satisfaction to be found in that tried-and-tested formula, Blood Origin‘s jerky pacing and thin character work keep it from evolving into anything truly special.

Netflix will unveil a new chapter of “The Witcher” saga Christmas Day with the release of prequel story “Blood Origin.” Ahead of the full release of the first season, Variety has an exclusive look at an action-packed scene from the fantasy epic starring Sophia Brown and Michelle Yeoh.

Originally expected to be a six episode series, The Witcher prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin will be “a four-part special event” when it reaches the Netflix streaming service on December 25th. Our own Alex Maidy already had the chance to watch the show, giving it an 8/10 review you can read Here – and in his review he said, “The limited four-episode run is just long enough to build up the characters without overstaying its welcome. In fact, I would have enjoyed more episodes or even another standalone mini-series focused on this era.” During a recent interview with Netflix, showrunner Declan de Barra said the idea to cut the show down from six episodes to four came up in the editing room so the show could have “optimum story flow”.
The showrunner said, “This felt like a two-part movie. You never want to be watching a movie going, ‘I love this movie.

Review: The appeal of The Witcher has been, at least for me, the performance of Henry Cavill. Having read the novels that inspired the video game and television series, seeing Geralt of Rivia embodied by an actor with as much presence as Cavill elevated the series from a pulpy distraction to destination viewing. Before Cavill’s third and final season as Geralt premieres in mid-2023, the first live-action spin-off series arrives on Christmas to tell the tale of how the Witchers came to be. Henry Cavill may be exiting Netflix's "Witcher" franchise, but there are lots of other faces ready to flesh out this fantasy universe -- and I'm not talking about teen heartthrob Gale Hawthorne. Prequel series "The Witcher: Blood Origin" is set to debut later this month with a star-studded cast and a particularly action-ready headliner at the helm. I'm happy to report that Michelle Yeoh is wielding a sword in the latest trailer for the upcoming series, which means it's time to cancel your holiday plans and prepare for a four-part binge on Christmas day!

"The Witcher: Blood Origin" showrunner Declan de Barra knows a thing or two about music. The Irish director is also an accomplished songwriter and musician himself, and his touch is easy to recognize in the new "The Witcher" prequel mini-series. One of the main protagonists is Éile (played by Sophia Brown), a bard who tells stories via song, and music ends up playing a major role in the story. While Jaskier (Joey Batey) provides plenty of great tunes in "The Witcher," that responsibility falls to Éile in "Blood Origin," and it turns out that Brown had never sung professionally before. The fledgling singer manages to do incredible work and has the presence of a well-practiced musician despite her lack of experience, and helps bring the legends of the elven world to lyrical life.

"The Witcher" has its fair share of songs and storytelling, but these arts are at the center of the upcoming prequel mini-series "The Witcher: Blood Origin." The show, which premieres on Netflix on December 25, 2022, follows seven warriors who team up to try and stop an evil empress (Mirren Mack) with her eyes on supreme power, but one of its warriors is also a bard. Bards, like Jaskier (Joey Batey) in "The Witcher," are essentially the way for people to get news from other regions in medieval and medieval-inspired fantasy stories, because they take information from town to town as they travel and play their music for coin. Jaskier chooses to follow Geralt (Henry Cavill) around in part because he wants to be able to write more songs and stories about the Butcher of Blavikin. Every bard needs a hero to write about, but in the case of the Lark in "Blood Origin,...

Because "The Witcher: Blood Origin" takes place centuries before the events of "The Witcher," fans probably shouldn't expect to see their favorite characters from the adventures of Geralt in the prequel mini-series. Unless, of course, that character is Jaskier (Joey Batey) because he's been given a role in "Blood Origin" that connects the two series through more than just the conjunction of the spheres. Jaskier is a bard, a traveling musician who spreads the world's news through song. His jaunty "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" became a hit both in our world and that of the show, where it became a TikTok and YouTube phenomenon. So how exactly is Jaskier in the prequel, and why did the series creators decide to include him?
Jaskier should be back and up to his usual sassy nonsense in season 3 of "The Witcher," but his role in "The Witcher: Blood Origin" is a little different.

The upcoming Netflix prequel miniseries "The Witcher: Blood Origin" operates a little differently than the show that spawned it. For starters, it takes place long before the adventures of Geralt and the rest of the characters from "The Witcher." Not only that, but it takes place in an entirely Elven world, before the cataclysmic event that threw the realms together in chaos, and it's more of an ensemble piece than a story about just one main hero. Instead of Geralt (played by Henry Cavill for the first three seasons of "The Witcher" and Liam Hemsworth in the not-yet-filmed season 4), "Blood Origin" follows a team of heroes as they find one another on their quest to stop a terrible evil.
I had the chance to speak via Zoom with the series' showrunner, Declan de Barra, about his inspirations for the seven heroes who team up to take on a threat to all existence.

Sometimes, as the philosopher Huey Lewis once observed, one has "gotta get back in time." The "Game of Thrones" property is doing just that with "House of the Dragon"; "The Lord of the Rings" has done it before with "The Hobbit" and is doing it again with "The Rings of Power"; and now "The Witcher" is joining the fantasy franchise time-warp party with "The Witcher: Blood Origin," a miniseries that explores a key turning point in the history of "The Witcher" universe.
Created by "The Witcher" writer Declan de Barra, "Blood Origin" takes place 1,200 years prior to the plot of its parent show and explores the incidents that led directly to the creation of the first monster-hunting Witcher on the Continent. Perhaps even more importantly, it also tells the story of the "Conjunction of the Spheres," a crucial event in which the worlds of monsters, humans, and elves all merged into one,...

Minnie Driver is joining The Witcher: Blood Origin and Netflix is now sharing details and a first look at her mystical-sounding character. The announcement was made during Netflix’s Tudum global fan event. Creator Declan De Barra told Tudum that Driver’s character plays a Seanchaí, a shapeshifting storyteller that can travel between worlds and times. She’s essentially a collector of stories that are forgotten. She believes this story needs to be told again in the modern Witcher world for progress to be made in the future. Netflix has finally made an announcement for its upcoming spinoff series, The Witcher: Blood Origin.
Set some 1,200 years before the events currently playing out in The Witcher, the new series will focus on an event called the Conjuncture of the Spheres.
If that event sounds familiar, it’s because it was featured heavily in Season 2 of The Witcher.
The new drama series will not only delve into the Conjuncture of Spheres, but it will bring further light to the world of the elves and what the Continent was like before it happened.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting news on when this new TV show will drop on Netflix but, until recently, the streaming giant has remained tight-lipped.
However, at this weekend’s Tudum event, a premiere date was finally revealed.

I wouldn’t have expected that Minnie Driver would be joining The Witcher franchise, but here we are. It was announced during Netflix’s recent Tudum event that the actress would be joining the cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin, the upcoming prequel series which revolves around the Conjunction of the Spheres and the creation of the first prototype witcher.
The Witcher: Blood Origin creator Declan de Barra has since revealed details on who Minnie Driver will be playing in the prequel series, and it seems that her character will have an impact on the main Witcher series as well. Driver will play Seanchaí, who De Barra describes as “a shapeshifting storyteller that can travel between worlds and time. She’s essentially a collector of stories that are forgotten. She believes this story needs to be told again in the modern Witcher world for progress to be made in the future.

The Witcher: Blood Origin, the prequel to popular Netflix series The Witcher, finally has an official release date–and it’s a holiday gift for all fans, with a Christmas Day streaming launch. Meanwhile, the original Witcher – season 3 – is set for a Summer 2023 return. Both release dates were announced during Netflix’s annual Tudum event.
Blood Origin, which was announced back in the summer of 2020, is, according to its official synopsis, “a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”
The series stars Sophia Brown as a warrior-turned-musician, Michelle Yeoh as a sword-elf survivor and Laurence O’Fuarain as a man out for revenge.
The Witcher, which is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy series, has been one of Netflix’s most popular programs.

Netflix had announced that the prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin, which is set in “an elven world” 1200 years before the events we saw in The Witcher, would have a six episode run. But now the Witcher fan site Redanian Intelligance reports that they’ve heard the show is being condensed from six episodes down to four.
Here’s the Redanian Intelligence report:
Keep in mind that the footage was already shot as six episodes, which likely means heavier editing and potentially lots of footage on the cutting room floor. To support that, we learned the writing credits for all of the Blood Origin episodes and they go like this:
Episode 1: Declan de Barra
Episode 2: Alex Meenehan/Aaron Stewart-Ahn
Episode 3: Tania Lotia/Kiersten Van Horne
Episode 4: Declan de Barra/Tasha Huo
We can’t claim to know all the ins and outs of how crediting works...

Netflix has handed an early renewal to the widely popular series The Witcher, greenlighting Season 3 months before Season 2 drops in December.
The streamer unveiled a slew of The Witcher news at its virtual fan event Tudum on Saturday. The Witcher, which was one of Netflix’s most popular shows of 2019, stars Henry Cavill as the grim Geralt of Rivia, the bane of supernatural beasties, in a story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.
Set to debut on December 17, The Witcher Season 2 will follow Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia who, convinced that Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) died at the gruesome Battle of Sodden, seeks to bring Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen.

Like other explorations into the world of The Witcher, the upcoming spin-off prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin both expands upon and provides context for the main series. With Netflix announcing the limited series’ cast, most of whom are playing elven characters, a few questions arise. How are the elves involved in the creation of the witcher race, and why is the so-called “conjunction of the spheres” at the center of not only this origin story but also the beginning of the fall of the elves?
