Although most printed sources state that Mosby was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the 1900 census entry and his World War I draft registration card state that he was born across the river in Kansas City, Kansas. Mosby was a band leader, arranger, and businessman who owned a number of nightspots in Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles; the best known would be the famous Club Alabam at 42nd and Central Avenue in Los Angeles.
