Jordan Wieber, a 16-year-old gymnast from Dewitt, Mich., thought a mistake on the uneven bars and a small mistake on her floor exercise had cost her the gold medal at the 2011 World Gymnastics Championships. But when the final scores were posted, Jordyn burst into tears.
"I was so surprised to see my name up on the top, but I was so happy at the same time. It was an amazing feeling," Wieber tells the AP.
Russian gymnast Viktoria Komova led by four-tenths of a point going into the final event, the floor exercise, and she was the only gymnast in the top five not to make a mistake on her final routine. But Wieber's difficulty level pulled out the better score, despite a mistake. Watch Wieber's routines in the below video.
Wieber finished with a total score of 59.382 points. Komova finished with 59.349. China's Yao Jinnan won the bronze medal and the U.
