Blues guitarist Denny Freeman was born in Orlando, FL, in 1944 but grew
up in Dallas, TX. He played rock and R&B in a variety of bands in
Texas. In the 1970s he and legendary guitarist
Stevie Ray Vaughan joined a popular
Texas band called Paul Ray and the Cobras. Freeman left the band in
1982 and moved to Austin, TX, becoming a major player in the area's
blues scene. He played in
Lou Ann Barton's band before joining
Angela Strehli's group that year.
Although Freeman was a well-known name in the music business, he didn't
make many records due to the fact that he didn't particularly like to
sing, although he did cut an album in 1986 and another in 1988. In 1992
he moved to Los Angeles, but often returns to the Austin area to
perform.
