Arthur Campbell (Peter Gallagher) may have lost his position at Langley on "Covert Affairs," but the disgraced former Director of Clandestine Services shouldn't be counted out yet -- he has a personal stake in Annie Walker's (Piper Perabo) latest mission, with the life of his outspoken son Teo (Manolo Cardona) on the line.
Unlucky for Arthur, his duplicitous predecessor Henry Wilcox (Gregory Itzin) is also taking things personally, as you can see in our exclusive clip from tonight's episode of "Covert Affairs," titled "Rock A My Soul" (above).
Read the episode description for this week's "Covert Affairs" below, and tune in on Tuesday, August 6 at 9 p.m. Et on USA to see who comes out on top.
"Rock A My Soul"
As Annie and Auggie’s (Christopher Gorham) romance heats up, both begin to notice how it strains their working relationship within the CIA. Arthur and Henry almost come to blows.

Covert Affairs Q&A: Peter Gallagher on 150 Shades of Gray, Arthur as a Father and Sanctioned Threats
He's stepped down as the head of Dcs. He has a pregnant wife. And also a no-longer-so-secret son in Columbia.
Yes, the life of Arthur Campbell has been turned upside down on Covert Affairs Season 4.
Luckily for us, Peter Gallagher sat down with us during our Toronto set visit to delve into his complicated character, going on in detail about Arthur’s life after the CIA and what else is in store this summer.
Of the structure and content of the season - which flashes 10 weeks forward before pulling us back to the present - Gallagher said:
“[There’s a] slightly different construction and architecture, which is less episode-based and more essentially character and action-based, so that the characters and the action live with [this storyline] for more than one episode and, as such, you can discover more dimension and aspects of the characters and details of the of the missions that would not have...

"Covert Affairs" is back for Season 4, and this time it's back with a whole lot more romance than ever before.
But is "Covert Affairs" back in a good way? The answer to that may depend on your perspective. Season 4 has some major changes -- the show is darker, and there is a whole lot of romance going on.
For some people, the darker tone is definitely a positive. At this point, "Covert Affairs" barely resembles the bright and fluffy spy tale it was during its first couple of seasons. It's more like "24" than that now.
And then there's the romance. If there's one thing that divides "Covert Affairs" fans, it's Annie and Auggie. They are very much together now, which can either be a good thing or a bad thing. Only time will tell which it really is.
The tease
Alas for happiness and simple plots, Season 4 begins with elevators and gunplay.

New additions to CBS’ crime drama Unforgettable, James Laio and Tawny Cypress, have been promoted to regulars. The two were originally cast in March for recurring roles on the upcoming second season of Unforgettable. That brings the number of regulars on the show back to 6, with Laio, Cypress and fellow new castmember Dallas Roberts joining returning stars Poppy Montgomery, Dylan Walsh and Jane Curtin. Michael Gaston, Kevin Rankin and Daya Vaidya departed as regulars after Season 1. Laio plays Jay, a detective with expertise in a wide range of technical subjects in the Major Cases Section of the NYPD; Cypress plays Murray, a former decorated FBI agent who begins work at the Major Cases Section of the NYPD. Unforgettable, from Sony TV and CBS Studios, returns July 28. Homeland‘s Zuleikha Robinson is set to recur on the upcoming fourth season of another spy drama, USA’s Covert Affairs. In tonight’s episode of Covert Affairs, Arthur Campbell at the center of the action unlike we’ve seen before.
In the revealing episode, Arthur (Peter Gallagher) revisits his past as a former covert operative, a post he held during the Cold War in Berlin, and finds himself crossing paths with a former flame who betrayed him. “It causes all sorts of interesting personal, domestic, and professional tension,” teases Gallagher. “The initial conflict is that I’m going back to see a woman I was close to, the audience will know quickly whether or not they’re worried about Arthur .”

TV Fanatic's end-of-season Report Card series includes our favorite summer hits, as well. Today, we break down the second season of USA's Covert Affairs.
Are there enough superlatives to describe Auggie's greatness? What were the best plot lines, and which fell a little bit short? What's keeping the show from reaching the next level of truly must-watch TV instead of just a fun summer escape?
Here's our critic's postmortem of a summer of Covert Affairs ...
Best character: Is it too obvious to say Auggie? Is he not everyone's favorite? Maybe it's his dashing good looks, his relentless charm, or even his ability to his job with a ridiculous disadvantage, but it is extremely difficult not to love Auggie Anderson.
Best episode: If you find Auggie as interesting as I do, it is hard to go with any episode besides "Half A World Away." Finally learning how Auggie became blind was great,...

Known for his extensive film, theater and television career (as well as his amazing eyebrows), Peter Gallagher recently spoke with us about his role as Arthur Campbell in Covert Affairs. He talks about his on screen marriage with Kari Matchett, who plays Joan Campbell, head of the Domestic Protection Division. He also promises us that Arthur is going to get in on the action side of things and actually gets to –expletive- somebody up! And if you didn’t know, Gallagher is a skilled musician and singer. We ask him if that talent will somehow find its way on to the show. I regretfully forgot to ask him about video games (he’s been known to be a big gamer), but hopefully I’ll get to ask that in a future sit-down with the actor. Tune in this Tuesday night for the Covert Affairs Season 2 Summer finale.

Piper Perabo's Annie Walker is back in season two of USA Networks' Covert Affairs. It's not easy being a CIA opperative living a double life, but Annie sure does look good trying.
But the real question is, who can we expect to see emerging from undercover when the panel drops Thursday, July 21st from 11:15am - 12:15am in Ballroom 20?
Piper Perabo (Annie Walker)
Christopher Gorham (August Anderson)
Sendhil Ramamurthy (Jai Wilcox)
Kari Matchett (Joan Campbell)
Anne Dudek (Danielle Brooks)
Peter Gallagher (Arthur Campbell)
Executive Producers Doug Liman and Dave Bartis
Series Creators Chris Ord and Matt Corman

But do you know what we can tell you? Why, how about that USA is sponsoring a sweepstakes for an expenses-paid trip to San Diego Comic-Con 2011, courtesy of Covert Affairs?! Head on over to USA for your chance to win!

You can find the full schedule on comic-con.org [1], or after the jump I've listed the film and television highlights, which includes the Masters of the Web panel which I've been invited to be a panelist on (In full disclosure, I've been asked to be on this panel for a few years now, but I've only just recently gotten over my fear of speaking in front of large audiences). Chicago – In an era where America’s budget concerns are front and center, a TV series celebrating the awesomeness of the CIA seems a bit ill-timed. Piper Perabo portrays an undercover operative in the second season premiere of USA Network’s “Covert Affairs.”
TV Rating: 3.0/5.0
The series does score some points for intrigue, mostly through the character of Arthur Campbell (Peter Gallagher), who portrays the CIA Director of the National Clandestine Service. He’s in a bit of a legal pickle regarding his the division’s actions, and the whole agency is on pins and needles regarding it. In the foreground is Perabo’s Annie Walker, who is the centerpiece agent of the assignment du jour.
The second season opens with a flashback. Annie is romping on the beach, remembering a mission in Sri Lanka, where a former rogue operative Ben Mercer (Eion Bailey) is injured in a firefight trying...

I’m going to just assume that you’re watching Covert Affairs already, and just jump into the fact that Sendhil Ramamurthy took part in a Q & A recently, and I have it to share with you. You may be familiar with him, but he has a rather unique role in USA’s spy-venture series, and some may find him not entirely likable. Go figure.
Enjoy!
What exactly made you want to be a part of this show?
S. Ramamurthy It was kind of a roundabout thing, actually. While I was still shooting here, they were shooting this pilot and I put a friend of mine on tape for the role of Auggie, for Chris Gorham’s part. While I was doing that, I ended up reading the script and I really liked it, but I was already on a show and that was that. I kind of read it and filed it away.

Although he hasn't been featured prominently so far on Covert Affairs, that will change on tonight's episode of the USA drama, as Sendhil Ramamurthy - as Jai Wilcox - is front and center.
A few days prior to this new installment of the show, TV Fanatic joined a conference call with the actor. We thank him for his time and present the following excerpts from the interview:
On Jai's father, played by Gregory Itzin: My character’s father’s name is Henry Wilcox - there’s some baggage that comes with being his son and it kind of permeates through the CIA... it’s very important for Jai to feel that he is there at the CIA doing a good job on his own merit, not just because he’s Henry Wilcox’s son or because Arthur Campbell trusts him with specific clandestine operations that not a lot of people know about.

There was a lot of questionable integrity in this week’s episode of Covert Affairs. Were Arthur’s henchmen trustworthy? Was Auggie leaking intel? Did Annie’s partner murder the jewelry shop owner? It was hard to know what to believe, but one thing was absolutely certain: this week’s episode, “No Quarter,” was leaps and bounds ahead of last week’s lackluster edition. We had a better case (you might call it explosive?), solid character development, lingering mysteries, and even the return of Music Girl! With a bumped-up dose of danger and deception, it felt more like a spy series should feel.

So there's one question I had going into episode 2, could Covert Affairs keep up the momentum after its premiere last week? I think it does and I dare say, Covert Affairs might end up being one of the best written spy shows we have. This week's episode didn't have any new info about Ben but we did get a new character, Jai Wilcox, played by someone who had the name of Mohinder Suresh. Spoilers Ahead.
The episode starts with a flashback of Annie and Ben on the beach happy, then we see Annie fighting with that Russian assassin, his hands around her neck --Cut to Annie jumping out of her sleep. She went from a sweet dream to a nightmare.
That morning her sister wants her to sign papers that in case something happened to her would make Annie the guardian of her kids. Annie says she'll think about it.

We meet Annie ( taking a lie detector test. The questions start off pretty basic; we learn Annie is 28 and speaks 6 languages but then things get personal. Annie talks about her three week fling with a guy named Ben. We get a flashback of them running on the beach where he buys two matching sea-shell bracelets. She's in paradise until Annie wakes up to a note on Ben's pillow. Just like that he's gone. Even with all of that she says that she'll be able to separate her personal life from her job.
Soon after Annie is pulled from the CIA training school and heads to Langley, CIA headquarters.
At Langley she meets the instantly likable Auggie. He's the Tech...

Yet another criminal investigation show, Covert Affairs seems to want to shift the focus to something that delivers a more behind-the-scenes approach than the norm. At least, you have to hope that’s how things will play out, because there are a lot of storylines vying for attention. Premiering tonight, the show teams up with USA‘s other (newer) crime effort, White Collar.
Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) is new to the CIA. In fact, the show opens with her still in training at the farm, and being pulled out early. There’s a very important “mission” that Annie could be very helpful with, and it isn’t going to require that last month of work.
Assigned as Annie’s guide is Auggie Anderson (Christopher Gorham), who happens to be blind. Part confidant, part pseudo-mentor, part tech-ops handler, Auggie is Annie’s only grounding force as she is thrown into the...

For all those O.C. fans out there having Peter Gallagher withdrawals, have no fear. Peter is back on TV tomorrow night at 10:00 Pm in USA Networks new crime drama Covert Affairs.
The show stars Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) as Annie Walker, a CIA trainee, Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) as Auggie Anderson, a CIA agent who was blinded on a mission and becomes Annie's guide. Gallagher plays Arthur Campbell, the ex-Navy pilot and imposing Director of the Clandestine Service Department of the CIA. Admittedly a bit of a departure from the liberal and compassionate dad/lawyer Sandy Cohen, but he is excited to be creating a new character with the aid of producers Doug Liman and Dave Bartis.
In a recent interview with Peter, he told us why he joined the cast, why it's different from the other crime dramas, and what it's like working for USA.

Covert Affairs star Peter Gallagher has revealed that he joined the spy drama because he was keen to re-team with The O.C. producers Doug Liman and Dave Bartis. Speaking to Crave Online, the actor - who played Sandy Cohen on the teen drama from 2003 to 2007 - admitted that he was excited by the pair's grounded style of storytelling. "I was drawn to working with Dave and Doug again," he said. "I like the way they tell stories, because they’re powerful storytellers and they like to have the story they tell find a place in the world we live in." Gallagher explained that his character on Covert Affairs, CIA director Arthur Campbell, is motivated by a strong sense of duty. "I think he honestly believes that what he does is important," he said. "I think he’s very patriotic. I think he (more)...

I'm starting to regret that I don't watch USA more than I do. My neglect certainly isn't because they have bad programming, because they don't — it's more of a matter of time. USA is on the bottom of my priorities list. However, after seeing both premieres from July 13's Tuesday night lineup, I have to say that I might be making some amends to my schedule to make room for USA.
The first part of that Tuesday night block is White Collar's second season (the premiere of which has been reviewed here), and the second hour is a freshman series that actually proved to be really engrossing: Covert Affairs.
I didn't really have high hopes for the new show. It looked like a simple spy thriller focused on sex appeal, and I was skeptical. Turns out, that's exactly what it is: a spy thriller based on sex appeal that...

From the producer of the Bourne Trilogy comes Covert Affairs, a new spy drama from USA Network. Having seen the pilot, the show has a solid, well-rounded cast and is very smart. It's much more than your typical spy show and the major underlying mystery makes sure of that. The shows tagline is "single woman, double life" and it doesn't take long to see those words put into action. Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly, Beverly Hills Chihuahua) stars as Annie Walker, a young CIA trainee who is suddenly thrust into the inner sanctum of the agency after being promoted to field operative. While it appears that she has been hand-picked for her exceptional linguistic skills, it may be something from her past that her CIA bosses are really after. Fans of shows ranging from Alias to CSI will want to tune in on July 13 to see the summer's best new show.

USA Network has a great track record with original programming over the last few years. With shows such as Monk, Psych, In Plain Sight, Burn Notice, White Collar and Royal Pains gracing their schedule. USA has adopted the slogan Characters Welcome, and they have certainly lived up to all it implies with these series. The original programming offered by USA is packed with characters, all of whom help elevate procedural dramas into something more engaging. Last night I took a look at the pilot episode of Covert Affairs. For my impressions, read more after the jump.
