In today’s film news roundup, Sony hires a former attorney to write the “Jagged Edge” script, “Anderson Falls” rounds out its cast, and “Dr. Brinks & Dr. Brinks” is sold.
Development
Sony is moving ahead with its remake of “Jagged Edge,” hiring attorney-turned-screenwriter Melissa London Hilfers to pen the script for the Halle Berry-starrer.
Doug Belgrad’s 2.0 Entertainment banner is co-financing the film. Belgrad is producing with Matti Leshem. Berry plays a defense attorney in the pic.
The original 1985 thriller “Jagged Edge” starred Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges. Bridges’ publisher character was accused of murdering his heiress wife. Close portrayed the lawyer for Bridges’ character and Robert Loggia was nominated for an Oscar for his role as a private detective.
Hilfers was a litigator for Cravath, Swaine & Moore before becoming a screenwriter. She’s repped by UTA, and Alan Gasmer and Friends. The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.

Night of the Punks is a short film I think a lot of you will enjoy watching, especially if you like crazy violent and bloody horror. It's extremely entertaining and I love the old school nostalgic horror and punk vibes that it has. They used real practical effects and make-up as well! The film was directed by Dan Riesser.and
Synopsis:
Small town punk rockers The Brain Deads have their first out of town gig. But there are a few problems: The venue is deserted, the promoter is a creep, their bass player has gone missing, and the only kids in the audience appear to be bloodthirsty monsters from hell. It's gonna take a lot more than a few power chords and teenage angst to survive this night. Night Of The Punks is a love letter to 1980's splatterpunk cinema, echoing classics like "The Return of the Living Dead," "The Evil Dead...

Why Watch? Punk rockers The Brain Deads are playing an out of towner, but when they show up, the venue looks totally empty. The promotor is a sinister creep, but they take the stage anyway, lose their bass player, have a fan flash them the goods, and keep thrashing even though the majority of the audience is comprised of hell beasts. By the time an arm gets ripped off, everything seems blood-thirstily clear. These power chord slingers are a human sacrifice. With reverb from 80s punk classics like Return of the Living Dead, this short from Dan Riesser uses a cool crew of characters, flashy editing and some grisly gore to craft a hell of a good movie. Plus, the song “Lawnmower Massacre” is pretty damned catchy, and the film answer the question of what happened to Luke Edwards, the kid who beat “Super Mario 3″ in The Wizard. Apparently he joined a punk band and got attacked...

Dan Riesser’s horror/comedy short Night Of The Punks has played quite well at various film festivals. The full film, less than twenty minutes long, is available for viewing right here.
So, is it worth a look?
That depends. Can you stomach gore that’s simultaneously gross and funny, due to its over-the-top, low-budget nature? Do you have a deep-seated affection for the spook-a-blast stylings of the 1980′s? Can you find it in yourself to root for punk rock musicians? If yes, then I’d say that this short is more than worthy of checking out. Riesser, who shot the movie on a micro-budget, wants to turn it into a feature, and he displays more than enough chops to get the job done. I wish him the best of luck.
The story follows the members of Brain Dead, a small-time punk band who get booked for their first road show.

Do you like Return of the Living Dead? Night of the Demons? Evil Dead? Maybe From Dusk Til Dawn? Fresh off the festival circuit after receiving accolades, awards and becoming an official selection of over 25 fests, I give you… Night Of The Punks!!! It’s a short film that will take up 19 minutes of your time and make you a happy horror fan. The film features rippin’ punk riffs embedded in a horror comedy. Do you miss the Dead Boys? The Cramps? Maybe you fantasize about being killed, but you’re not Linnea Quigley, and there aren’t any old men around. It’s punks versus bloodthirsty monsters from Hell (and not zombies in this one)! Best part for you is that it’s on YouTube. It’s free, and it’s ready, willing and able to receive your support as a fan of good horror.

For the fifth year in a row, October gets a little creepier and scarier when the Spooky Movie Film Festival rolls into the Washington, D.C. area on Oct. 21-25 for six terrifying nights of of feature films and shorts.
Every year, Spooky Movie redefines the very definition of “horror” by presenting an absolutely unique selection films from all over the world. This year the bloody offerings range from backwoods horror comedies to documentaries to Norwegian and British zombie flicks to Australian monster movies and more.
Most exciting, however, is the return of the father of the splatter movie himself: Herschell Gordon Lewis, who will be screening his latest gore extravaganza, the diabolical The Uh-Oh Show!. This is Lewis’ first gross-out flick in seven years and is an unholy combination of blood, social satire and fairy tales. Bad Lit’s seen it and thinks it’s a real hoot and a holler.
