Born in 1977 in Neuchâtel, Julien Painot in Geneva studied piano and composition at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique in Geneva. Passionate about film music, he goes to the United States in 2001, where he stays for five years. He graduated in Film Scoring at the Berklee College of Music with honors Magna Cum Laude, then moved to Hollywood. He made his debut in the film industry by assisting experienced composers such as Alex Wurman and scoring independent films.
Back in Switzerland, Julien composes for many projects whose films are selected in festivals such as the Locarno International Film Festival 2015 (Horizontes) and 2018 (The Brissognes Islands), Rotterdam International Film Festival 2012 ( He was a Giant with Brown Eyes), Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur 2015 (Nuestro Mar), the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand 2018 (Dévoilées), the Geneva International Film Festival 2018 (Dévoilées), and many others. He records his music in eclectic genres, from electronic (with Kate Wax) to symphonic orchestras, including the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra, the Macedonian Radio Symphonic Orchestra and the Romanian Radio Orchestra. As an arranger, Julien collaborates with Angela Gheorghiu on his album, Guardian Angel.
