"Halo" is a story about a super soldier known as Master Chief (aka John-117) who fights aliens in space over ancient technology. You might think from the description that it's a story you've seen many times before. Certainly, "Halo" wears its influences on its sleeve. But don't underestimate the world of the games, which has thus far been the subject of over 30 novels, several comics, and one season of a live-action television show. Bungie cut their teeth directing the "Marathon" trilogy of narratively ambitious first-person shooters. "Halo" was targeted at a wider audience, but its developers still took the time to flesh out the game's setting. Rather than the heavy metal mishmash of "Doom" and its ilk, this would be a world of alien religious sects, military jargon, and Gregorian chanting.

Disney+ has been getting a lot of flack for making their original series too short in episode count. Well, no need to worry, because the new Andor show is their longest yet at 12 episodes.
“How would you like to spend three months with Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor? Later this year, you’ll get that chance. A new interview confirms that his upcoming Star Wars show, Andor, is 12 episodes long. That’s double the length of this week’s Obi-Wan Kenobi show, five episodes longer than The Book of Boba Fett, and four episodes longer than each season of The Mandalorian.”

Banjo-Kazooie and GoldenEye developer Rare was at the centre of an intense bidding war back in 2002, when Microsoft saw off competition from Activision to acquire the beloved studio.
That’s according to Xbox Co-Creator Ed Fries, who revealed that Activision had initially outbid Microsoft and appeared to be on the verge of closing the deal. However, at the eleventh hour, the latter company upped their offer to ultimately acquire Rare and its assets.
Per IGN: “We put in a bid and then Activision outbid us, and it looked like we were going to lose the deal. And then at the very last minute, Robbie increased our bid and we won the deal. And that was it. Who knows what could have happened with Rare.”
That was in 2002 and since then, Rare has hatched two Xbox 360 launch titles in the form of Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero, before...

Sharing your Minecraft creations with the world can be done in a many different ways. Whether you create a video or snap some screenshots, it's fairly easy to bring others into your digital world. But what about bringing your virtual creations into the real-world? That's where FigurePrints comes in, using 3D printing to produce physical replicas of video game characters and landscapes.
Founded by Ed Fries, former VP of game publishing at Microsoft, FigurePrints got it's start when Fries saw an opportunity to combine his love of gaming with emerging 3D printing technology. The company uses high-end 3D printers developed by ZCorp that use inkjet technology to build full color high-resolution models.
While FigurePrints is plenty capable of printing detailed models, there are still some limitations to what 3D printers can do. Because of this Minecraft models must submitted for review before a final decision is made. Thankfully, if you...

Nintendo's got three all-time favorite franchises that excite gamers every time a new installment comes out: "The Legend of Zelda," Super Mario Brothers (anything "Mario," really) and "Metroid." That last one holds a special place in games' hearts by virtue of the ground-breaking recursive design, creepy boss battles and last-minute heroine reveal.
Metroid's become one of gaming's longest-lived franchises, with the latest game "Metroid: Other M" released last year. There's no word yet as to when another official "Metroid" game will come down the pike but fans of Samus Aran's bounty-hunting action may have another option to play with soon.
Built by indie developer Tokinsom, the work-in-progress follows in the footsteps of Metroid games past. "Minitroid" is reminiscent of Ed Fries' "Halo 2600" de-make, especially since both projects started out as ways for their creators to learn hone their development skills. But, as a former Microsoft executive, Fries was able...

Insert Credit endeavors to suss out where you should be allotting your video game allowance, sifting out a single title from many and crowning it as The One Game You Need to Get This Week. Don't consider these reviews, gentle reader. Rather, think of Insert Credit as a mix of hands-on time, informed opinion and intuition.
For the week of August 2, 2010, you should insert credit into: "Halo 2600"
Completely by chance, it's turning out to be a bit of a retro-centric week here on the IFC Games channel. But unlike the Insane Console History 2.0 video or junkboy's demake art, you can actually play "Halo 2600."
"Halo" has been the marquee franchise for both of Microsoft's Xbox consoles so it's fitting that the game's the creation of Ed Fries, a former Microsoft VP. Fries used to be in charge of game publishing for the Xbox and has had a long history in various parts of the games business.

You read that right! Ed Fries, ex-vice president of Microsoft’s game publishing division and the man who had a very heavy hand in having Bungie Software signed onto Microsoft as a first-party developer, recently debuted a brand new (old) game at the recent “Classic Gaming Expo”. Possessing a whopping 4 Kilobytes of memory, Halo 2600 (pictured above) contains Master Chief’s first foray onto the Atari console.
Featuring 64 “rooms” to explore, you guide Master Chief in a mission to find his missing weapon, destroy enemies and take on a final “boss battle” hidden somewhere in the world. The game was supposed to feature a functioning Warthog vehicle in which to traverse the world, but sadly the addition would have pushed the game far beyond it’s 4Kb limitation (like 5Kb). Fries only made 100 or so of the completely original cartridges, so those of you wanting to play this undeniable landmark of...
