"You want to share it with as many people as possible." Abramorama has debuted the trailer for a music documentary titled What We Started, focusing on the Edm (or Electronic Dance Music) scene. I confess I am a huge Edm fan and have been listening for many years. This doc attempts to be a definitive look at the scene and the music and the people behind it all. The documentary features heavy-weight electronic dance music artists, including the infamous young new DJ, Martin Garrix, the legendary Carl Cox, as well as appearances by Erick Morillo, Moby, David Guetta, Afrojack, Paul Oakenfold, Seth Troxler, and DJ Tiesto. There are multiple cameos from musical superstars, including Usher and Ed Sheeran, who help exemplify the power and reach that electronic dance music has over mainstream music genres. This really looks damn good, seems to be a comprehensive examination of the entire culture. I'm...

Dance music producer Erick Morillo has teamed up with DJ duo Eli & Fur on a new tech house track dubbed “Thunder & Lightning.” The new single was released today via Subliminal Records and features a blend of underground house grooves and sleepy female vocals.
Clocking in at seven minutes, “Thunder & Lightning” is a slow burning tech house affair perfect for late nights in a dimly lit club. Ignoring the desires of the masses for compact, accessible dance music, Erick Morillo instead delivers an underground anthem with a haunting vibe. “Thunder & Lightning” sports a minimalistic structure, with elements taking their time to repeat throughout the production as new sounds are slowly introduced in the mix.
The dark, smoky vocals courtesy of Eli & Fur pair perfectly with Morillo‘s masterful house production, making “Thunder & Lightning” a top notch dance floor effort. If you like the track as much as we do, then make...

A major chapter in the history of electronic music is about to come to a close, as superclub Pacha New York has announced that it will close its doors beginning in January.
The celebrated offshoot of Pacha Ibiza has acted as a platform by which electronic music artists and promoters could reach an ever-expanding fanbase over the past decade that its doors have been open to the public, but all of that will end after its 10 Year Anniversary party on December 12th, which will be headlined by none other than Erick Morillo, Pacha New York’s founding resident DJ and chairman of the board.
While Pacha New York has not made the exact reasons for its discontinued business operations clear in any official statements, many speculate that it stems from the death of legendary promoter Rob Fernandez earlier in the year, as he played no small role in putting the nightclub on the international map.

I don’t often find myself singing the praises of big room house, but I also try to avoid dismissing anything just because of the genre label associated with it. After all, every style has its gems, and Ummet Ozcan‘s “On The Run” proves that there’s even room to explore in the festival-friendly variety of four-four dance music that’s become the Edm community’s favorite whipping boy in recent years.
A few measures of pump-you-up bass kicks build up to a savage synth melody that evokes a similar energy to Erick Morillo’s 1993 club hit “I Like To Move It.” The menacing progression is just interesting enough to hold your attention, although the drop is still admittedly pretty basic, and could only really work in a live, outdoor setting.

It’s July 1st, 2014, the U.S. National Team will soon be eliminated from the World Cup and Israeli techno DJ Guy Gerber is sitting behind a mixing board at Daddy’s House Recording Studios, reviewing masters for the album he created with the man who gave the building its name. “So many people told me, ‘Don’t do it, it’s not going to come out, it’s not going to work,'” he recalls, but a month and half later – and four years after the two artist began...

When we rang Guy Gerber, the producer and DJ was "recovering" from his new Wisdom of the Glove night at Pacha Ibiza. An after-party didn't help. "I'm not a great after-party person," Gerber sighed. "I used to be, but it's not my thing. If there's a girl you want to see, you go. If there are no girls, you don't go. It's easy to balance it like that."
The matter-of-fact honesty is characteristic for Gerber, who has taken over Erick Morillo's Wednesday night party at Pacha, the longest-running event on the island known as dance music's Mecca. Take, for example, Gerber's response when asked about his relationship with Morillo: "I don't really have a relationship with him, but I am a good friend of his ex-girlfriend."

Erick Morillo, the Colombian-American DJ and house music producer known for outstanding mixes and high-octane club sets, has a new mix he wants you to hear.
He's been at it since the early '90s (back when house music was the anthem for seemingly illicit and never-ending parties full of music that no one knew all the words to), and he's retained a thirst for music steeped in funk and rhythm. That means there are few Afrojack-style bleepy breakdowns and little room for dubstep, but there is plenty of engaging music that translates seamlessly from your desk at work to a dark, foggy nightclub illuminated solely by the light cast off an ever-rotating disco ball.
We've heard "Subliminal 2012," his and Sympho Nympho (Morillo, Harry Romero and Jose Nunez)'s new compilation. Morillo made the mix to celebrate his Subliminal Sessions residency at Pacha in Ibiza (he's been a regular there for 12 years,...

Indio, California — Despite finding message-board haters among some festival vets for snagging a headlining spot at the 2011 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Kings of Leon won over the first-day crowd on Friday night, as the masses in attendance couldn't help but sing and sway to the band's radio-friendly rock.
Saying they were "tired of playing the new stuff," the Kings dug out "Molly's Chambers" from their pre-big-time 2003 debut Ep, Holy Roller Novocaine, which joined more-recent hits "On Call," "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody."
The rockers' Who-reminiscent "Black Thumbnail" finale of feedback and drum pummeling ended not with smashed guitars, but with good-ol'-boy singer Caleb Followill knotting up his handkerchief to toss into the adoring crowd.
