- Today's first announcement for the Sundance film fest got me thinking - I'll be missing out on the winter sport I love the most. Its almost a shame to be in Park City and not touch the slopes. Speaking of winter sports...Sony Pictures Classics is once again going the extreme sports docu route, after surfing and skateboarding docs, director Mark Obenhaus' documentary will probably only attract a specific movie-going crowd (Warren Miller film lovers). Receiving a December 21st release, Steep is shot on High Definition and on film in Alaska, Wyoming, Canada, France and Iceland, this is a bold adventure, exquisite athleticism and the pursuit of a perfect moment on skis. It is the story of big mountain skiing, a sport that barely existed 35 years ago. It started in the 1970s in the mountains above Chamonix, France, where skiers began to attempt ski descents so extreme that they appeared almost suicidal.
