- Michael Rose is a writer and filmmaker, based in Toronto Canada, who graduated in 1996 with a film degree from Ryerson University. With writer/filmmaker Glenn Kay, he co-wrote the funny and informative non-fiction book "Disaster Movies", which was published in the United States by Chicago Review Press in August 2006, and in Canada by Mosaic Press in December 2006. It can be ordered for your reading pleasure from Amazon.com, or purchased (or stolen) from your better bookstores. Ths acclaimed book features a foreword from "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" host Mike Nelson, and cover blurbs from filmmakers Joe Dante ("Gremlins") and Stephen Chiodo ("Killer Klowns From Outer Space"). It's a great way to blow an afternoon, people. Between 1997 and 2000, over fifty of his short stories, essays and film reviews were published in the now-defunct webzine "Journal X", in his weekly column "Playground Justice". In 1993, he co-hosted and co-produced the late night FM radio music show, "Industrial Folk", on the Ryerson University radio station CKLN. In the mid-1980s, he was an extra in the Scott Baio TV movie "The Truth About Alex", and in crowd scenes in the miniseries "Kane And Abel". Around the same time, he showed up for extra work in the controversial miniseries "Amerika", but they never got around to shooting those scenes, so he sat around for eight hours and ate sandwiches. In 1987, he had the opportunity to meet Ted Danson, Tom Selleck and Steve Guttenberg on the set of "Three Men And A Baby", and wrote an essay about the experience that he will be happy to email you if you want. In 1998, he contributed to the official "Mono Puff" web site.
He one day hopes to complete the documentary "Garage Sale", which he wrote, directed, appears in, and co-produced in 2005 (with Glenn Kay & Brad Darch). He is also the author of an as-yet-unpublished absurdist comedy sci-fi fantasy novel named "Lazar Sees Stars", which has been in a constant state of revision since it was originally completed in 1995. As a member of the one-off band "Fireplaces And Things", Michael performed the lead vocals on a cover of the song "James K. Polk" by They Might Be Giants on the 1996 cover compilation "We Might Be Giants, Too". He is skilled in corporate communications, babysitting, retail management, typing, and public speaking. If you lived in Toronto in the late 1990s, you might have bought a VCR or television from him at the electronics store that he managed. Don't worry, the chain has closed but your extended warranties should still be valid.
Michael is proud to mention that his sister is the acclaimed singer/songwriter Kathryn Rose. His father is the veteran television and film actor Alan Rose, who is still working in the industry today. He likes it when people offer him jobs, so go ahead if you have one for him. His favourite movie is Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey".- IMDb Mini Biography By: Gurn Blanston
