- Genai was born in Manhattan during the famous blackout of 1965 and grew up in Darien, Connecticut. She is the wife of deep sea explorer and Alvin submersible pilot Bruce Strickrott. Genai was named after Ingrid Bergman's character in the movie 'The Inn of the Sixth Happiness' and her father's office was used in the movie 'Kramer vs. Kramer' in the scene where Dustin Hoffman gets his new job. She majored in theatre and communications at The University of New Hampshire where she performed a one woman show based on a Eudora Welty short story. As an occasional screenwriting editor, Genai worked with Jonathan Demme on the documentary film 'The Agronomist'. - Graduated from Darien High School in Darien, Connecticut alongside musician Moby.
- While studying theatre in London as a college student, Genai saw Anthony Hopkins in "King Lear", Jeremy Irons in "Richard II", Alan Rickman in "Les Liaisons Dangereuse", Jack Lemmon in "A Long Day's Journey Into the Night", and Faye Dunaway in "Circe and Bravo". The performances so motivated a young Genai that she returned to The University of New Hampshire for her final semester and performed a one woman show to much acclaim.
- Tried unsuccessfully for years to produce the screenplay "Park Avenue" written by Genai's good friend Andrzej Krakowski. Although the project never came to fruition, even with seasoned producer Hillard Elkins behind the scenes, Genai's respect for "Hilly" grew exponentially when she found out he had marched from "Selma to Montgomery" with Dr. Martin Luther King. Shelved for now, Genai still credits Hollywood agent Emanuel Nunez for swiftly returning all her calls no matter where he was in the world.

- On September 11, 2001, she and three sailing friends from The New York Yacht Club docked in Newport, Rhode Island just hours before the twin towers fell. Ironically, the name of their yacht was called "Recovery Room".
