Welcome back to another review of Aew Dark: Elevation, which features a sub-1 hour show this week, with only 8 matches on the card, which pleases me a Lot! We’ve got Paul Wight and Matt Menard on commentary, so let’s get into the review.
Match #1: Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir and Nyla Rose def. Johnnie Robbie, Vipress and Zyra
My Thoughts: This match saw a return to the Shafir/Rose/Vickie squabbles that we’ve seen previously – they’re obviously building to the split between the trio but at the same time I’ve enjoyed the teaming of Nyla Rose’s intensity with Vickie Guerrero’s brash attitude and I’ll miss it when the split does happen. As for this match? It felt more like an angle than a match but still, an Aew quasi-squash is still an Aew quasi-squash!
My Score: 1 out of 5 Match #2: Daniel Garcia def.

Welcome back to another review of Aew Dark: Elevation, this week features more main roster names than usual and another 9-match card! We’ve got Tony Schiavone, Paul Wight, and Matt Menard on commentary, so let’s get into the review.
Match #1: Nick Comoroto def. Hagane Shinno
My Thoughts: Interesting to see Comoroto booked as a monster once again, with Shinno booked as the plucky underdog who could not get the big man down. That’s not to say Shinno didn’t put in the effort but it was like watching a fly trying to beatdown a bulldog! Comoroto spent a bit too much time playing to the crowd but still, this was an Ok start to the show.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5 Match #2: Nyla Rose and Marina Shafir def. Kitty Lafleur and Alice Crowley

Match #1: Aew All-Atlantic Championship Match – Pac def. Trent Beretta The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:
Trent clotheslined Pac over the top rope and to the floor. Trent followed up with a pescado. Trent bodyslammed Pac on the arena floor. Trent speared Pac on the outside. Trent hit a high boot on Pac and then placed him on a table. Trent was going to jump off the ramp onto Pac but Pac moved off the table. Evil Uno knocked down Bryan with a shoulder tackle. He stomped on Bryan’s hands and cradled him for a near fall. Bryan stood back up and slapped Evil Uno in the face. Welcome to this review of Aew’s Full Gear, which looks to be yet another huge pay per view for All Elite Wrestling – with matches featuring Bryan Danielson, Miro, the Inner Circle, American Top Team, Britt Baker, Tay Conti, The Lucha Brothers, Ftr, Mjf, Darby Allin and Two highly-anticipated matches between Eddie Kingston and Cm Punk, and Kenny Omega versus ‘Hangman’ Adam Page… And we get some wonderful tributes to the legend that was Eddie Guerrero too!
The Buy-in: Match #1: Hikaru Shida & Thunder Rosa def. Nyla Rose w/Vickie Guerrero & Jamie Hayter
My Thoughts: Thunder Rosa and Hikaru Shida used their size and agility really well in the early going of this match to take down Nyla Rose. Welcome to this weeks review of Aew: Dark, which once again comes from Pittsburgh – a crowd who are so hot for Aew no matter the match Or the show! Makes a world of difference to hear an excited crowd during matches…
Match #1: 2.0 def. Skyler Andrews & Sam Adams
My Thoughts: Skyler Andrews & Sam Adams opened this match strongly, looking like they might have been headed for an upset but it was not to be… 2.0, who are on a hot streak in Aew after being released by WWE, got the win and are on a roll going into this weeks Dynamite.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Tay Conti def. Rebecca Scott
My Thoughts: This was a pretty good womens match, with the debuting Rebecca Scott looking good if a little green for TV. Conti had control for the majority of this match, looking dominant with her Dd-Tay finish.

Welcome to this weeks review of Aew: Dark, again from Daily’s Place in front of a smaller crowd… This show show look a lot different in the coming weeks apparently. Maybe. Probably not (apart from fans ringside). Anyway on with this weeks review…
Match #1: Wardlow def. Baron Black
My Thoughts: Apart from a few chops and some work on Wardlow’s left arm this match was all Wardlow. All Wardlow throwing Black around… around the ring that is. Nice attempt at a Cobra Clutch by Black though!
My Score: 1 out of 5 Match #2: Lee Johnson def. Vary Morales
My Thoughts: This was a fantastic match with two guys who seemed very well matched. Morales was a great opponent for Johnson and offered some great back and forth, meaning this match was never fully predictable.

Welcome to this weeks episode of Aew: Dark, I’m Phil and I’m not holding out much hope for this episode of Dark after Monday’s episode of Elevation. Let’s put that disappointment aside and get to the show!
Match #1: Ethan Page def. Danny Limelight
My Thoughts: If you’re going to have one of your major stars work against an “enhancement” talent then it really ouight to be Danny Limelight. The guy makes every single one of his opponents look good and usually gets a chance to shine himself – as he did here with a great tightrope walk into a flipping neckbreaker! Shout-out to Scorpio Sky on commentary too… funny, sardonic and a great voice alongside Taz.
My Score: 3 out of 5 Match #2: Dante Martin def. Sonny Kiss
My Thoughts: Sonny Kiss was left to fend for themselves as Joey Janela’s heel turn continues… In terms of the match,...

Welcome to this weeks review of Aew Dark: Elevation, which is the first (I think) to be filmed in front of a huge live crowd and deals with the fallout from this past weekend’s Double or Nothing. And in a real shocker… this episode is not even Ninety minutes long!
Match #1: The Acclaimed – Max Caster and Anthony Bowens def. Brent & Brandon Tate
My Thoughts: The Acclaimed delivered yet another great match against twins, and current Ovw Tag Team Champions Brent & Brandon Tate – how displayed just why they are champs. Though it was enough for the fluid tag team work of Bowens and Caster.
My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Leyla Hirsch def. Robyn Renegade

Welcome to this weeks sub-2 hour long Aew Dark: Elevation… I say that because Aew literally put “almost 2 hours of wrestling” in the title of the show on YouTube! Hey, at least if they do that we know what to expect upfront. Let’s get to it…
Match #1: Qt Marshall def. Robo
My Thoughts: Despite Paul Wight saying on commentary that this match featured a “valiant effort by Robo,” this was a squash. And a bad squash at that. This is the kind of wasted TV time that could easily be cut and make Elevation a trimmer, faster, Shorter show.
My Score: 1 out of 5 Match #2: Abadon def. Leila Grey
My Thoughts: Yet another squash match. Abadon made short work of Leila Grey who only got in a couple of punches and a kick in the corner in the entire match! Otherwise Abadon threw Grey around like a ragdoll.

Rey Fenix applied body scissors to Matt Jackson and then changed levels with a thrust kick to the back of Matt’s head. They battled on top of the turnbuckles and Matt countered with a powerbomb!

Natural Nightmares & Nick Comoroto def. Vary Morales & Jersey Muscle Society
Fresh off the announcement he’d joined the Nightmare Family Nick Comoroto got to take part in a Trios match with the Natural Nightmares and – unsurprisingly – stole the show. Comoroto is a beast of a man and he’s slowly but surely becoming one of the standout wrestlers. So much so I look forward to seeing what surprise show of strength (and skill) he pulls out of the hat each and every week. At this rate he’ll be taking on Aew’s main-venters, on Dynamite rather than Dark, in no time.
My Opinion: 3 out of 5

Aew wrestler, co-founder and executive vice president Cody Rhodes lost his “Rhodes” for legal reasons when he left WWE. “The American Nightmare” has the rights back now but still won’t use his family’s adopted surname in the ring or on wrestling TV, he said on Thursday.
On other television shows, however, it’s a different story.
“I’m very happy about being Cody Rhodes again. The details of it all aren’t important other than it was a very positive, no-hard-feelings-on-either-side type scenario,” Cody said. “I will say though, it’s not something I probably will use in the wrestling space.”

Welcome to this debut review of All Elite Wrestling’s Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament: Deadly Draw – Night One, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and this tournament is a part of an overall initiative to increase the appeal of Aew’s Women’s division, which has struggled to make a mark like the men’s wrestling has in that same league. We’re getting WCW’s BattleBowl: The Lethal Lottery/Tna’s Joker’s Wild rules here, with partners randomly being paired together as opposed to teams being made naturally. Let’s see if this comes together as something worth remembering, or is just Home Alone 3.
Match #1: The Nightmare Sisters (Brandi Rhodes & Allie with Dustin Rhodes & Qt Marshall) def. Mel & Penelope Ford (with Kip Sabian) – Quarter-Final Match

Oh, wrestling manager, how I miss thee. Remember the 80s? Remember pro-wrestling during the “golden era” and the sheer amount of managers we had on our screens? There was so many, from heel managers both male and female, and valets, we had loads of men and women standing ringside offering an element of potential interference or backup to their client in the ring. It was glorious, that’s what it was! I miss managers. We have had a few over the last couple of decades, from Vickie Guerrero to Zeb “Dutch Mantell” Coulter to Lana to Zelena Vega to Paul Heyman, but there aren’t that many compared to how it used to be.
I became a pro-wrestling fanatic in the early 90s and went back to watch 80s wrestling immediately on video tapes. Seeing women like Miss Elizabeth and “Sensational” Sherri doing a damn good job in their jobs...

Table for Three is a great original show idea and I’ve enjoyed watching each episodes over the past five seasons or so. The new episode which landed this week was titled “General Managers Special” and features Eric Bischoff, Kurt Angle and Vickie Guerrero.
Now, if you’ve been a fan of WWE over the past couple of decades you’ll have seen each of these guys feature on WWE programming as a General Manager of either Raw or SmackDown (or both). Kurt Angle is the most recent Gm, heading up Raw a year or so back, with the other guys not having done it in a while, but it’s a fun mix, and each of these WWE legends are enthusiastic and likeable as they talk about their individual runs as Gm’s in WWE.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, current WrestleMania plans call for two divas’ matches at the event – one for the Divas’ Championship, and another designed to get the rest of the division onto the card.
Putting two women’s matches on a WrestleMania card for the first time in a decade could potentially be a great idea – in the past, when the company has tried to fit all of the divas into a single bout, the results are usually poor. At WrestleMania XXX, the Vickie Guerrero Invitational lasted less than seven minutes and did little but give the fans time to process The Undertaker’s shocking loss. At WrestleMania Xxvi, a ten-diva tag team bout was even shorter, serving as a backdrop for a Vickie Guerrero-LayCool celebration.
With two Divas’ matches, WWE can fit the bulk of the women in one bout while giving the Divas’ Title match its own focus.

We Want Lana! (clap clap, clap clap clap)
This could have laid claim to be the most popular chant of early 2015. Rusev was flying high as the monster heel in WWE and the Ravishing Russian was over, not only because of her looks, but because of her promos and gimmick to boot. Heading into WrestleMania 31 it looked like nothing could stop the pair.
Lana was cut from a different cloth in pre-Divas Revolution WWE. Instead of everything being geared towards her undeniably pretty looks, she was a strong and confident women who didn’t take any sh*t from anyone. Not since the days of Sherri Martel had Vince McMahon got behind a female performer in this way. Yes Vickie Guerrero was fantastic in her heel authority figure role, but even she wasn’t immune from insults about her looks and the like from time to time.

2K have released a trailer detailing the new My Career mode that will be featured in WWE 2K16.
A lot of work has been done to the mode to make it more compelling than ever. While last year’s version saw you rather aimlessly shunted round the WWE – with endless apologies from Triple H and Vickie Guerrero who had ‘nothing for you this week’ – this year’s looks like it will be everything we’ve ever wanted and more.
WWE 2K16’s career mode “will give players the ability to fight their way from the developmental ranks of Nxt all the way into the WWE Hall of Fame. In addition, they will train, compete against others, conduct personality-driven interviews, interfere with rivals and/or form the ultimate tag team.”

For the past few weeks on Raw and Smackdown, Team Bella have been coming out and showing fans a countdown on the “BellaTron”, counting down the days until current Divas Champion Nikki Bella’s reign becomes the longest in WWE history. This countdown clock is set to finish some time shortly after the end of Raw this coming Monday (14/09) at which point Nikki will officially hold the record for the longest Divas Championship reign.
However a spanner was thrown in the works on this week’s Raw (07/09) when it was announced that Nikki would have to face Charlotte in a title match prior to the completion of countdown clock. This move has been very much welcomed by fans who believe that Nikki would be very undeserving of the record given how little she has actually defended her title since becoming champion last November.

In the broadest sense, Wrestlemania truly is the greatest of them all when it comes to wrestling events.
The Showcase of the Immortals is often just that – the place where legends are made and legacies are cemented. But to be fair to the Grandest Stage of Them All, the WWE’s SummerSlam PPV has also seen its fair share of magical, memorable moments over the decades.
Since its inception in 1988, SummerSlam has produced some fantastic and unforgettable matches and memories, and it’s also notable for some of the more unique and defining gimmick matches that the WWE has ever seen.
Whether it’s in a cage, involving a ladder, with a special referee in the mix, or a straight-up war where carnage is the order of the day, SummerSlam has seen it all. Hell, it’s even seen matches where the loser ends up spending the night...

These are the men who got cosy with the boss, who swapped tights and boots for ties and suits, and let cash flow dictate their morals. Ever since she became a permanent fixture in the WWE, Vickie Guerrero was a heat-seeking missile that would garner some of the loudest boos and negative reactions of anyone on the entire WWE roster. As the wife of the late Eddie Guerrero, it’s obvious that some of the phenomenal all-around wrestling performer’s talents rubbed off on his partner.
Despite being such a heat magnet onscreen, those within the business have always spoken quite fondly of her, remarking on what a kind and sweet person the real Vickie Guerrero is – the complete opposite of the WWE character she portrayed throughout the majority of her nearly decade-long career as a talent.
She was one of the most selfless performers in the company – often being placed in situations and angles that were meant to embarrass or humiliate her – and she did her job with professionalism and enthusiasm. There aren...

2014 was something of a transitional year for WWE, not only in terms of the wrestlers and storylines, but of the whole company and business. The launch of WWE Network changed everything that had come before it and while it remains to be seen whether this will be Vince McMahon’s greatest achievement or his biggest folly in the long term, in the meantime the important business of providing top quality product to the WWE Universe has continued.
There’s no denying that Wrestlemania and the other Pay Per View (PPV) events are the mile markers in the WWE year, but without the weekly Raw and Smackdown shows there wouldn’t be context or reason for them, and so we come to the annual best of release that allows us to look back over the past year and it has to be said, some slight misfires aside, it’s been an interesting one.

For years, President Jack Tunney ruled over WWE storylines with an iron fist, not always making decisions that were met with open arms by fans, but decisions that were made in the best interest of the promotion. When Gorilla Monsoon replaced Tunney, he became the first real authority figure to experience increased television exposure. He stood up in the face of defiant villains such as Jim Cornette and Vader and even found himself on the receiving end of a vicious assault at the hands of the massive Coloradan.
It was not until Roddy Piper was named interim president and waged war with Goldust at WrestleMania 12 that the authority figure became an integral part of WWE television. Sgt. Slaughter followed suit, becoming commissioner in the summer of 1997 and engaging a relatively young Hunter Hearst Helmsley in a war that quickly became personal. Relationships in pro wrestling can be seen as a blessing and a curse. The blessing is that it allows a couple to be able to travel with somebody they work with and that understands how difficult it is being a pro wrestler. The curse is that if you break up with that person then you still have to see them at work, which is never easy.
Some of these relationships have led to the couple getting married, having children or both. Other times it’s simply two adults dating for years. There are probably other relationships that we may not even know about, but these are the ones that were definitely started due to their working relationship in WWE. Do you think they thanked Vince McMahon for setting them up? Some of them probably did.

Michelle McCool has received an ice cold soaking from her husband The Undertaker. It was all part of the Als ice bucket challenge, the viral video sensation where celebrities get doused in ice water. The WWE Diva’s reaction to the drenching gives you some idea of how cold that water is, she responds with a shriek and shakes all over. She then nominates the man pouring the water to take the challenge, “I challenge him, I challenge my husband The-” she shouts before the video cuts out. It’s interesting that the video deliberately cuts before she says Undertaker. That’s how private the man is, yet presumably, he’s now going to post his own video within the week.
McCool also nominated a range of other wrestling superstars to take the Als ice bucket challenge. Layla, Booker T, Chavo Guerrero, Vickie Guerrero, Chili and Mvp all got the nod.

It’s been one year since The Authority became a regular feature on WWE television. The husband and wife duo of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have used The Authority as their name since the night after SummerSlam last year on August 19.
While the group’s name is specifically for the WWE power couple, they’ve had a number of associates in the last year too. Wrestlers like Randy Orton, Kane, Batista and Seth Rollins have been a part of it while management types like Brad Maddox and Vickie Guerrero had an association with them as well. They also had Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose involved when The Shield were still heels last year and Hunter’s New Age Outlaw buddies Road Dogg & Billy Gunn were part of The Authority too. Even retired WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels has been involved too, as well as a corrupt ref in Scott Armstrong.

After nearly nine years with the company, and several months of rumors that she’d be leaving the WWE, Vickie Guerrero finally made her exit from the brand earlier this summer. However, she isn’t simply living off of her WWE earnings– Guerrero has already landed a new job, and seems to be excited about it.
Guerrero took to Twitter to announce that she’s been hired by a pharmacy company, where she’ll process patients for treatment through insurance companies and also work with doctors.
It’s sure to be a giant change in pace for the 46 year old Guerrero, who’s been a part of the WWE roster since her mid-30′s, and prior to that had a 15 year marriage to WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero. Every time we hear Michael Cole try to attach some sort of prestige to the WWE Divas Championship, it’s hard not to snicker a little. While it’s fair that Aj Lee’s 295-day title reign did help restore some sanity, there was a period where it seemed like every Diva on the roster was a former champ – and it almost was true.
At WrestleMania Xxvi in 2010, the Divas division was on full display in a 10-woman match that ended when the only non-wrestler in the bunch, Vickie Guerrero, hit a “hog splash” (as the announcers called it) for the win. What’s noteworthy is that all nine of the other Divas who participated in the match (Michelle McCool, Maryse, Alicia Fox, Layla, Beth Phoenix, Eve, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly and Gail Kim) at one point or another held either the Divas Championship or the WWE Women’s Championship.

Despite living in a world where Raw is rated a family-friendly “TV-pg” and moms and kids are as...

With less than a week to go until WWE Money in the Bank 2014 on PPV, we head into the “go-home” edition of Raw for June, the final stretch before the big show happens. With two separate ladder matches announced for the PPV, one for the vacant WWE World Title and the other for the Money in the Bank Contract Briefcase, we should hopefully find out the other entrants who will compete alongside Seth Rollins in the Contract ladder match.
I mentioned in recent weeks how stale the WWE product has become again, and with Daniel Bryan on the injured list it only spells further stagnancy if WWE refuse to do something different at the upcoming PPV show. Let’s see if things feel different tonight, or if we get the same old episode of Raw, with the same old context-less matches between guys who should be kept apart until the big matches.

The WWE creative process has undergone another significant change as WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has reportedly fired head writer Jay Gibson, according to a report from PWTorch. The firing happened on Friday, which was one day after WWE fired 11 on screen performers.
McMahon’s firing of Gibson probably doesn’t matter to you or me because we never saw Gibson and have no understanding on what he actually did. However, a head writer is obviously an important role in the WWE hierarchy. Remember, though, McMahon is man in charge that is above everybody else and makes all decisions on what appears on WWE TV. He does rely on writers to put together the scripts for the shows, but nothing is going to happen without McMahon’s stamp of approval.
Last night’s edition of Raw was the first WWE TV show without Gibson. Apparently that’s a big...

Vickie Guererro is to leave WWE next week, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Her character has been featured on WWE television for the last nine years, hitting her zenith from 2007 to 2012 as a heel authority figure. She was undoubtedly one of the finest character performers WWE had, her trademark “excuse me!” line getting some of the loudest reactions of any given show. Her exit from WWE was long expected, she had wanted to leave after WrestleMania 30, but WWE managed to convince her to stay around for a departure angle.
We witnessed this angle on the June 16th Raw. Vickie was left in charge of the show after Stephanie McMahon left due to sickness. This was an angle where Roman Reigns spiked Stephanie’s drink and then convinced Guererro to enter him in the World Title qualifier Battle Royal. Part of this story was the degrading and...

This week’s Raw provided answers regarding some of the key matches at WWE’s Money in the Bank PPV on June 29th. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is up for grabs in a ladder match with seven participants. Headed into Raw we knew that Randy Orton, Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus, Cesaro and Bray Wyatt were in the match. There were two spots left.
There was a battle royal for entry into the ladder match. Roman Reigns wasn’t originally part of it, but he convinced Vickie Guerrero to give him a spot in the match. He got in the match (the only with a televised entrance) and of course he won it, last eliminating Rusev.
John Cena wasn’t allowed to participate in the battle royal because Triple H put him in a Stretcher Match against Kane. Cena ended up winning the match clean thanks to an Attitude Adjustment onto a stretcher,...

Last week myself and fellow Shadowlockers Deborah Cosgrove (Sl’s resident photographer, whose work graces this column and who also happens to be my wonderful wife) and Luke Connolly (Sl writer and editor) had the good fortune to go to the Smackdown taping at the O2 Arena as guests of 2K Games, so I must first of all give a massive shout out to 2K’s John Beaton for sorting us out with tickets.
This was only my second live WWE event, the first having been when the circus rolled into town last November, but while that was a continuously flowing show, which I suspect the live Raw show that went out the night before must have been, the Smackdown experience was more like being in a studio audience as a show was being pieced together, which isn’t really surprising as that’s exactly what happened.

The General Manager role is something that has been a part of WWE television since the brand extension started in 2002. There’s been GMs of Raw and Smackdown since that time as well as Ecw when it was around. Even Jbl is the Gm of Nxt these days although they really don’t have him do a lot.
This past week on Raw, the Gm Brad Maddox was fired. He was barely on television as the Gm, so it makes sense why he was fired. With Stephanie McMahon and Triple H assuming major roles on TV as heel authority figures there really isn’t a need for any Gm on Raw. Whether they will name somebody new for the job or not is something that is completely up in the air at this point.
With Maddox removed from the job, it’s time to reflect on the other GMs in WWE history.

PWInsider reports that Mason Ryan has been released.
The 32 year old Welshman had been part of the WWE system since 2009, but he was never able to make his mark on the main roster. The closest he came was when he was a member of the New Nexus group led by Cm Punk in early 2011.
He debuted by attacking John Cena and drew a lot of attention at first because as a 6’5″ 290 pounder he was one of the biggest guys on the roster and basically looked like a younger version of Batista.
Due to injuries and perhaps a lack of talent (particularly in terms of promos), he never made his mark on the main roster. WWE likely feels that somebody his age should have been able to grasp things better, so they have decided to release him..
Ryan likely could have been a success if he was a part...
