A social media star on the rise (played by Dani Barker) discovers that online fame can come at a deadly price in the new thriller Follow Her, an innovative and enthralling film that was one of my favorite features screened at the 2022 Popcorn Frights Film Festival (where it won the Jury Prize for Best Film).
With Follow Her now in theaters and on VOD via Quiver, Daily Dead caught up with director Sylvia Caminer in a new Q&a feature to discuss the making of Follow Her, including working with lead actor Dani Barker (who also wrote the screenplay), keeping horror fans on their toes with the film's subversive scares, exploring the dangerous side of social media, what it was like to direct her first narrative feature after a successful career of documentary filmmaking, and plans to continue exploring the world of Follow Her in a potential trilogy or series.

"You think the world is all about *your* content." Quiver has revealed the official trailer for indie horror thriller called Follow Her, yet another social media cautionary tale. This premiered at the Fantasporto and Fantaspoa Film Festivals last year, playing a few others in the US last fall. After a succesful fest run it's set to release for viewing this June including on VOD right away. "Follow Her is a psycho-sexual thriller that questions the ethical boundaries of social media." An aspiring actress responds to a mysterious classified ad and finds herself trapped in her new boss's twisted revenge fantasy. Starring Dani Barker as Jess Peters, Luke Cook, Eliana Jones, Mark Moses, Cristala Carter, and Brian Vincent. The horror site Bloody Disgusting ran a great review, saying: "The fact that Follow Her succeeds at being fun, meta, and thought-provoking, while also being a low budget, female-led project, makes this an exceptional movie.

Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive drop on the official trailer for Follow Her, which explores the dark side of internet fame…
“Jess (Dani Barker) has finally found her hook: secretly filming creepy interactions she encounters via online job listings, and using the kinks of others to fuel her streaming success. For her next episode, she’s been hired by Tom (Luke Cook) to write the ending of a screenplay in a remote, lavish cabin. Once there, the alluring self-proclaimed screenwriter hands her a script in which the two of them are the main characters. This client isn’t what he seems, and even though the money’s great… the real payment here could cost her life.

Luke Cook and Dani Barker star in ‘Follow Her’
Sylvia Caminer’s feature narrative directorial debut Follow Me is a twisted cautionary tale and a clever skewering of internet celebrity. Social media’s made thousands of people famous for doing nothing more than filming themselves putting on makeup or declaring themselves experts on some random topic. (No actual proof is necessary.) One video is sometimes all it takes to launch a lucrative career.
Follow Her’s protagonist, Jess Peters (Dani Barker), hopes the road to financial success is paved with the online videos she surreptitiously films of men in compromising positions. In announcing the Feature Film Prize for the film, the jury said the following: “A socially relevant horror movie for modern times, Sylvia Caminer’s Follow Her features a completely unpredictable screenplay by star Dani Barker with a twist at the end that rivals The Sixth Sense. Fantaspoa 2022 Review: Follow Her is an Inventive Psychological Thriller That Will Keep You Guessing
For director Sylvia Caminer’s debut feature film Follow Her, we are immersed in the dangerous side of online culture as a streamer gets more than she bargains for when she decides to take on a potential job, unaware of just what her potential employer’s intentions towards her truly are. As someone who watches hundreds of movies every year, I can’t even begin to tell you how much my mood improves when something comes along and manages to surprise me, and Follow Her did just that, over and over (and over) again. The script, written by the film’s star Dani Barker, is completely engrossing and thought-provoking but also leaves you with some food for thought while you’re watching it (more on that later), but it also finds some ingenious ways of subverting expectations and turning some tried and true tropes on their head as well, making...

Jess (Dani Barker) is a social media influencer, or at least, she’d like to be. She’s young, thin and blond and she can talk the talk; the problem is that there are thousands of others out there like her. Even her selling point – catering to men’s fetishes, filming the process and presenting it as comedy online – is hardly unique. It’s only when something goes wrong technologically and the face of one of her unwitting co-stars appears unpixellated that she suddenly has a hit on her hands - 31 worth of hit – and finds herself faced with a difficult choice.
This initial scenario isn’t terribly well thought through. If the clip has really been viral for hours at the point when she finds it, it’s far too late for taking the video down to achieve anything meaningful – but given that she doesn’t seem to understand this,...

The Scarehouse is a solid contained horror film mixed with found footage when away from the main location. Production values are good and performances are commendable when it comes to the “why are you doing this to me?” scenes. Most impressive of all is Jennifer Miller (as sorority sister – Lisa Jenning). She can certainly throw a punch or two and proves to be an ongoing thorn in the side of our anti-heroes Corey and Elaina.
The movie opens up with handheld footage of a group of loud-mouthed, college sorority sisters dressed in their underwear getting ready for a night of initiation with their two newbies. None of these people prove themselves to be likeable.

The one, the only, Robert Nolan is the ultimate chameleon slipping in and out of roles with such ease. He has appeared in dozens of short films including some genre fare like Richard Powell's "Worm", Ryan M. Andrews's "The Devil Walks Among You", and Daniel Reininghaus's "Eyes Beyond" to name a few. We got the chance to ask this incredibly talented actor a few questions. Here is what he had to say.
So for those unfamiliar with you, who is Robert Nolan and what are you all about?
Aside from knowing my own name and that I exist on this planet right now, exactly who I am remains as mysterious a world to me as you are to you. Does anyone really know exactly who they are and what they are all about? The depths of the interior human are as infinite as the universe our bodies inhabit.

The curse and boon of our industry is its ease of distribution. If you can produce a video, it’s up in as long as it takes for YouTube to process it. The curse comes because with a more typical path of distribution there are people who will look at your show and consider if it really should be made. (Of course, that’s its own double-edged sword; great shows will be overlooked because an executive ate a ham sandwich instead of his usual egg salad that day.) This is the problem I have with Starvival. From the storyline to the shooting style to the painfully obvious link baiting episode titles, this is a show of vanity and low self-esteem to the point of outright self-degradation. The premise is like so: Danielle Barker—doing all of it off ‘cell phone and a half broken camcorder’—goes after her dreams of...

I've seen enough horror Canadian and American horror films to know that most of them won't scare me and stay in my mind. However, while I wouldn't call myself a fan of Daniel Reininghaus's Eyes Beyond, I can tell you that this Canadian horror short film will be stuck in your memory for quite a while.
This rather confusing film starts in an apparently quiet neighbourhood. Gabriel (Daniel Reininghaus) and Adam Morales (Evan Eisenstadt) are the neighbours of a family made of Henry (Robert Nolan), Vivian (Kelly-Marie Murtha) and Abigail Rogers (Danielle Barker). One day, the Morales brothers invite the Rogerses for a dinner. However, it appears that the Rogerses ended up being the victims of the Morales brothers who unleash their violence.

One would find it safe to assume that after 20 years of desensitizing and brainwashing thanks to countless hours of shoving horror films into my corneas, that there would be absolutely nothing that could phase me anymore. It is today that I must admit that I stand corrected. I will say that it takes some extreme measures in order to shake me up, but Daniel Reininghaus’ Eyes Beyond has done exactly that.
An extremely dark and unconventional look at the horrors of bi-polar disorder and the sorrow it brings to those who suffer from the illness, we as an audience are thrown into a whirlwind of “is it real or is it a dream” reality and a mind-blowing hallucination.
