American Idol was announced to be coming to an end after 15 seasons yesterday (May 12), but did you know that Ryan Seacrest used to have a co-host?
Brian Dunkleman hosted the Fox competition's first season alongside Ryan Seacrest, before the latter took sole control. History has not been kind to poor old Brian since, with Fox TV CEO Dana Walden joking about a possible reunion for the pair.
"Where is Brian Dunkleman? If you give me his number, I will call and invite him," she joked, though Dunkleman gave as good as he got last night:
I knew American Idol would never last without me #Cancelled

To honour Dunkleman, we have collected a few hosts of massive shows that you may have cruelly forgotten, starting with the man himself.

He's the republican who got the Queen to turn Bond girl, the avowed leftwinger the Tories chose to open the London Olympics, the Oscar-winning director determined to remain an 'equal citizen': meet the ultimate idealist
Last month, the BBC's head of drama, Ben Stephenson, addressed a meeting of writers, commissioners and producers. One key passage could be distilled into two words: Danny Boyle. Stephenson told his audience he wanted them to seek inspiration from the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, which, he said, had scale and brilliance and, above all, had succeeded not in spite of its Britishness but because of its Britishness, delighting viewers here and around the world by rooting itself in the authentic stories and spirit of these islands.
Stephenson hardly needed to elaborate. Boyle's Isles Of Wonder spectacular – with its rising chimneys, its fiery, forged Olympic rings, its bouncing children on NHS beds and its...

Mum runs full-pelt into the brickwork. Then her boy pushes the luggage trolley into the wall. Click, flash – he's gone, replaced by five French teenagers, arguing over who gets to hold the handle. They vanish and a middle-aged man steps up to snap the "Platform 9 3/4" sign. The queue behind him is 15 people long. Click: Harry Potter did this 10 years ago. Flash: we can too.
This is one of the weirder ways that Jk Rowling's story endures. Half a baggage cart bracketed sloppily on to a brick wall, protected by a small green shed tucked to one side of King's Cross station. There's a security camera and a No Smoking sign. A McDonald's across the road.
