Fox 2000 has picked up Delia Owens’ debut novel Where the Crawdads Sing which Reese Witherspoon and her Hello Sunshine label will produce as a feature film. The book was included on Witherspoon’s ‘Reese’s Book Club’. The book spent the last 12 weeks on The New York Times Bestseller list and the last two months on Audible.
Gp Putnam’s Sons published the book in August and it is set against the backdrop of the mid-20th century South, and centers on Kya, a young woman who, abandoned by her family, raises herself all alone in the marshes outside of her small town. However, when her former boyfriend is found dead, Kya is thrust into the spotlight, instantly branded by the local townspeople and law enforcement as the prime suspect for his murder.
