Italian metal masters Lacuna Coil have unveiled a new single titled “Hosting the Shadow” featuring guest vocals from Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe.
The song marks another new stand-alone single from Lacuna Coil, who earlier this year unveiled the track “In the Mean Time” featuring New Years Day singer Ash Costello.

While Lacuna Coil are already known for their dual vocal attack from Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro, Blythe takes the band’s sound to a new extreme. After an extended instrumental intro, the Lamb of God singer’s voice is heard first on the song, as he delivers his signature growl in the verses, where he is eventually joined by Ferro. Scabbia’s clean singing then arrives in the melodic chorus.
“‘Hosting the Shadow’ is a trip through light and dark, where silence reveals its hidden secrets,” stated Lacuna Coil. “Obscure moments can become occasions to evolve,...

Teutonic metal trio Sodom have been swinging their mighty axes for over three decades now, standing alongside Kreator and Destruction as the reigning overlords of German thrash. Their breakout 1989 release Agent Orange established the band's standing among the genre's most influential artists, and their thrash/punk hybridization, prominent military (mainly anti-war) lyrical themes and gas-masked soldier mascot “Knarrenheinz” lent them a memorable signature that's still solidly in play. Frontman/bassist Tom “Angelripper” Such remains their sole founding member (and writes most of their material), with the current lineup rounded out by long-time guitarist Bernd “Bernemann” Kost and new drummer Markus Freiwald. Their fourteenth studio album Epitome of Torture upholds the Sodom banner, mostly adhering to their no-bullshit brand of gritty, breakneck thrash, but with a slicker production style evident in their most recent releases; Angelripper describes it as "hard-as-nails and contemporary, without ignoring our tried-and-tested old school attitude." The production was overseen by Waldemar Sorychta,...

Get out the guyliner! The "Underworld Awakening" soundtrack is here and its giving new life to a bunch of bands we didn't know people still listened to...remix style! Taking a trip back to your brother's awful collection of CDs during the 1990s, alterna-music player Renholdër (aka Danny Lohner) -- who has worked with Trent Reznor and dudes from Korn, Limp Bizkit and Blink-182 -- has twiddled the knobs on a bunch of tunes. Evanescence, Linkin Park, The Cure, Ministry and The Naked And Famous all get reworked by Lohner on the soundtrack that seems to favor tweaked out versions of alterna-jamz. The most potentially "interesting" track will likely be Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman's redo of Lacuna Coil's "Trip The Darkness." We mostly just hope he drops a ridonkulous solo over the whole thing. As for the rest of the soundtrack, it's a bunch of alterna-stuff we...

Miami-based old school metallers Black Tide first gained the admiration of the head-banging populace when they scored a sweet spot at Ozzfest 2007, opening for Lamb of God and Lordi on the main stage – all this when many of the band members were still in their teens – and later touring with metal heavyweights like Avenged Sevenfold, Lacuna Coil and Bleeding Through. Their debut album Light From Above followed shortly after to great critical praise, and they've been kicking more ass this year with the release of their second record Post Mortem and the companion Ep Al Ciero (which contains Spanish versions of three Post Mortem tracks). After proving their genre cred with a bloody animated series based on their...

The wait is finally over. After nine years, six movies and billions of dollars in profit, the "Harry Potter" film series has started its march to the end. Today marks the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1," the first part of the final entry in the film series (the second will premiere in the spring of 2011). It is by far the most visually arresting and narratively intense "Harry Potter" film yet, featuring the approach to the final showdown with Lord Voldemort and no shortage of making out. There are other movies coming out this weekend (like the Russell Crowe thriller "The Next Three Days" and the limited release Sally Hawkins vehicle "Made in Dagenham"), but the movie world will be dominated by "Potter" for this weekend and probably many weekends to come.
