With St Louis fans upset over Mike Martz's decision not to offer Ricky
Proehl a contract as a Ram in spring of 2003. Days following; a sign
could be seen by millions, right behind the ring during a "WWE Monday
Night Raw" episode live on Viacom's cable network "Spike TV". The black
and white sign clearly read "MARTZ FEARS PROEHL". Reportedly someone
from Rams front office was watching the show on Spike, called WWE &
Savvis Center officials in St Louis (where the show was taking place)
and had the sign removed. This only caused more bad PR for the Rams the
next day via St Louis local radio shows and ESPN's "Pardon the
Interuption".
