‘Lincoln Lawyer’ Adaptation From David E Kelley Gets Series Commitment at CBS

CBS has given a series commitment to a “Lincoln Lawyer” adaptation from David E. Kelley.

Thom Sherman, senior executive vice president, programming, CBS Entertainment announced the series commitment on Thursday during CBS’ executive session at the Television Critics Association press tour.

Sherman added that the series is being targeted for the 2020-21 season.

Based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling series of novels, “The Lincoln Lawyer” centers on Mickey Haller, who is described as “an iconoclastic idealist, who runs his law practice out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car as he takes on cases big and small across the expansive city of Los Angeles.”

Connelly and Ross Fineman, who also produced Kelley’s Amazon series “Goliath,” will serve as executive producers on the drama from A+E Studios, in association with CBS Television Studios.

David E. Kelley's The Lincoln Lawyer Series Adaptation Eyed by CBS

CBS has retained The Lincoln Lawyer, by making a series production commitment to David E. Kelley‘s adaptation of the 2005 Michael Connelly novel.

The series revolves around Mickey Haller — half-brother of Connelly’s Lapd detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch — a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back seat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind.

The Lincoln Lawyer was previously adapted as a feature film in March 2011, starring Matthew McConaughey as Haller, plus Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, William H. Macy, Bryan Cranston, John Leguizamo, Michael Pena, Trace Adkins and Katherine Moennig.

The “Ally McBeal” and “The Practice” creator will write and executive produce.

In one of the first big sales of the 2019-20 broadcast development season, CBS has given a series production commitment to The Lincoln Lawyer, a legal drama from The Practice creator David E. Kelley based on Michael Connelly’s series of bestselling novels. The project hails from A+E Studios, which will co-produce with CBS TV Studios.

Written by Kelley, The Lincoln Lawyer centers on Mickey Haller, an iconoclastic idealist, who runs his law practice out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car, as he takes on cases big and small across the expansive city of Los Angeles.

Kelley will executive produce with Connelly and Ross Fineman.

The high-profile project, which marks Kelley’s return to broadcast, was taken out by A+E Studios just before the upfronts, with CBS quickly snapping it.

The Lincoln Lawyer stems from a previous spec script Kelley had written which A+E Studios acquired a year or so ago,

Goliath: Dwight Yoakam & Harold Perrineau Join David E. Kelley Amazon Series

Dwight Yoakam and Harold Perrineau have joined the cast of the Goliath TV show at Amazon. The original drama series comes from David E. Kelley and was previously known as Trial. Yoakam played Lyle Chumley on Under the Dome, which was cancelled last summer after three seasons on CBS.
